Beautiful island with amazing sunset. Very friendly people, reasonable prices, but You have to be very careful with local hotel staff, unfortunately they steal money from your room and hotel management don't do anything. They lie. Don't take cash with you, use only credit cards or take small cash and carry always with you. It didn't happen only to me. It happened to many friends of mine:(

A lovely beach if there was no sargasso.
A lovely beach if there was no sargasso. Streets are all sand, the soft powdery stuff and rocks! Very much in need of a grader as it’s very rough. Way too many taxi’s racing by ( side x side atv’s). If you book a hotel quite always from the ferry or have lots of luggage, you may want to take a taxi ($300 pesos)
Loads of restaurants near the beach downtown, has a younger vibe. Very pricey for everything! $250-300 pesos for a margarita, small. Breakfast runs you $300 pesos if you are getting a beverage as well. ( we ate in ) There are some food carts around the square after 7 pm with affordable tacos, tortas, etc. for more affordable eats. There are a few affordable restaurants as well but you have to ask around or spend some time checking menu prices to find them, they are a few blocks off the Main Street.
We ate at Cenaduria La Tapacia, shared a pastor burrito, very good.
Antojitos Kanasin and D’alex Pizza are also great choices.
So if you have some extra cash to spend it’s a nice place to visit for a short time. Just try to make it before Sargasso season. You would love the beach!

Staying in Holbox Island was the highlight of our trip.
Staying in Holbox Island was the highlight of our trip. I loved how friendly and peaceful it was. Everywhere you go you are close to a spectacularly beautiful beach. There are many great restaurants. You often see birds and lizards. The prices are not as cheap as some areas of Mexico but are cheaper than tourist areas in Tulum or Cancun.

The relaxed vibe and the fabulous long beach and sand bar up to mosquito point were highlights. There was a great choice of places to eat in every price category so wasn't expensive.
Some of the roads are in poor condition and the low level of the island means they flood causing muddy obstacles that breed mosquitos. In march it wasn't too bad though and you could always find away to avoid walking through the mud.
There was a garbage problem on the island - the further from the beach/centre of town the worse it gets and it needs a bit of a clean up.

I was impressed by the nice beachy / sandy atmosphere on this island. The roads are nice with their mix of concrete and sand. It feels so relax. We stayed 2 days but another day having breakfast by the beach and trying some of the island restaurants would have been great. It's great for relaxing.

The Island is perhaps the best remaining part of the...
The Island is perhaps the best remaining part of the Caribbean / northern peninsula coast that has not yet become “Gringolandia.” Although fishing and tourism are the major industries, the island retains the culture and ambiance that used to mark the places like Tulum, Isla Mujeres, or Cozumel. Hopefully the need to take a 3 hour bus ride to get there will protect Isla Holbox for a while. It’s easy to understand the 50-50 split in tourist reviews - if you expect a Disney version of Yucatán, stay away. The infrastructure will disappoint you. But if you want a unique beautiful little island, you’ll be fine. I’m actually feeling guilty for writing this - I would rather tell everyone to stay away, and preserve the entire island for the future!
Definitely worth the extra money to stay at the beach! It is quite far to the center of town - it looks close on the map but it is FAR. The island lacks paved roads and getting around is only by (golf carts/ATV) taxis. Trust me, you don’t want to walk especially with a stroller. Maybe the best way to walk is on the beach. The hotel itself is great (looks like a dream at night!) and we went for the beach not the town so the location was perfect for us! The palapas on the beach are also wonderful!
This is a boutique hotel right on the beach. The setting is just beautiful. We stayed in room 1 and room 4 and both were perfect. Plenty of room, great beds, and bathroom. Loved the balcony to see the sunset and relax with a book. The breakfast is very personal and very tasty! There is a nice area on the ground level to sit at the bar, lay on a lounger or relax on the outdoor couch with tons of cushions. The staff is very attentive to all of your needs.
Holbox Island was a stunnig place and Bliss apartments was a perfect spot to reach all the activities available on the island. The owner gave us a big help planning snorkling and more activies with local agencies which was super nice. The structure was really clean and cozy. Kitchen well furnished. The beach is 5 min walking. The house was even better than it looked on pics. Really reccomended!
The outdoor space of the hotel site itself was by far our favourite thing about this hotel/campsite, and of Isla Holbox actually. Set a little bit back from the main downtown area, it feels quiet and secluded, and extremely relaxed - 10 or 11 teepees & cabanas encirlce a sand-floor 'chill' area full of palm trees and hammocks. The hotel was very clean and the staff are all super nice.
It is a ver nice boutique hotel nearby the city center and the ferry (walking distance). The left complimentary water for us which was god send in the heat. The staff was very friendly and never missed to greet us when passing by. The restaurant was closed when we got there but they made an exception and cooked for us what we wanted! Thank you!!
The room was spacious and lovely. Each room has its own balony or terrace. It was a relatively cheap accomodation for Isla Holbox, but the design and serivce is of high standards. We could leave our luggage before the check in the the hotel nearby. It is close to the lovel Punta Coco beach. The room was really quiet as well.
I stayed at Soho Boutique Holbox for 3 nights, and I loved it! The room I had was beautiful, cozy, and had an amazing vibe. Hotel has offered two swimming pools and the one on the roof was the best! The beach is located 2 minutes by walk from the hotel.
In addition to that, the breakfast that was offered was delicious!
We really liked the hotel ، it was very close to the sea ، and it was very convenient that we just got to the sea very quickly. The hotel staff was very helpful in all sorts of little things, like exchanging bills from dollars to pesos, and ordering taxis and explanations about the island.
Hotel was in an excellent location. Rooms were very clean and air condition was perfect. Staff was very attentive and helpful. Overall I was very pleased with my choice. Very cheap for the island and most importantly the room was very safe to leave your belongings.
Everything was fabulous. Our brilliant hostess Sandra and her staff looked after us beautifully. We were so lucky to find Casa Tom Tom, we stayed in 3 separate hotels on the island due to late booking and this was head and shoulders above the rest.
It's really worth your money, it's clean and comfortable, the location is quite center and if you are looking for something simple and cheap compared to the average on the island but still with good standards it's a good hotel
The hotel has a really lovely island vibe. We loved the Caribbean decor, and it felt in keeping with Holbox. A short walk into the main area/beach was easily done and the owners were helpful and always willing to help us.
This hotel is noting Sustainable or Boutique category. They don't offer any quality as they announce and they mislead people with their photos. Nothing pleasant! we had the worst vacation ever.
We stayed for two nights. The room was on the ground floor, but no noise. It was spacious.
Centre of the island is walkable from the hotel. We got great recommendations from the reception.
The hotel is smack on the beach. The staff were all very pleasant and helpful. The island is great, but massively more crowded than it was a few years ago.
