First and foremost, there are no hidden fees when booking our property! We charge state and local taxes because we are required to by law, and we charge a very reasonable cleaning fee. That's it. Furthermore, you are not required to do anything upon check-out. YOU are the guest, and this is YOUR vacation. Now onto the details......The “Garden of Good” is a play on words from the 1994 novel and subsequent 1997 movie, Midnight in the Garden of Good and Evil, that was filmed in Savannah. Subtle nods to both the movie and a garden-type atmosphere are evident in the space, from the statue of "Bird Girl" to a floor-to-ceiling shower enclosed in a painted garden motif....and so much more! The space itself is our carriage house, which sits above our garage -- formerly the horse stables in the 1800s. If walls could talk, they would tell you about the "horse driver" who once worked and stayed in this very spot or about the horse-drawn carriage and how it creaked as it pulled into the space beneath you. What's so special about The Garden of Good is that it was specifically designed to bridge the beauty and integrity of the past with the modern-day expectation of what a guest would like to experience in a luxury accommodation. From the original walls of Savannah Grey brick and antique hardwood floors to luxurious linens, a Frame TV, complimentary rose and lavender sugars, and more, our guests' anticipation of being pampered while experiencing the 19th century is realized. Unlike a hotel, there is a full kitchen at your disposal, as well. And, unlike most Airbnbs, everything about this kitchen is high-end -- from the dish-ware to the refrigerator. The water is filtered; homemade treats await you; everything you need to make a real cup of coffee is already there.
Perhaps what is most interesting about us is that we traveled the U.S. for nearly nine months during the height of the pandemic, staying in Airbnbs for the entire duration. We were one of those crazy families who just up-and-sold everything (the house included) and roamed North America while road-schooling our two youngest kids. We learned so much about hosting during this experience, as you can imagine. When you go from one Airbnb to the next, you really get a sense of what works and what doesn't. Ironically, we had no idea that we'd end up buying a home in Savannah's historic district with two rentals as part of it! After a major renovation to both units, we are ready to put our "expertise" to work and try hosting on our own. Most importantly, I want people to know they are getting an inclusive experience without being nickel-and-dimed. There are pastries when you arrive. There is high-end coffee and tea. There are homemade lavender and rose sugars. There is filtered water. This is all complimentary. And, beyond all of that, the units were designed with luxury in mind. Who wants to sleep on a hard mattress with scratchy sheets, or in a hotel room whose thermostat seems to unfairly and mysteriously increase in temperature in the middle of the night? The goal of our two rentals is to deliver a luxurious experience at a fair price. Lastly, we are also avid runners and walkers, and we anticipate sharing routes with our guests. As a couple who has traveled all over the world, something we find lacking in so many hotels and rentals is information about safe local running routes. We want our guests to have this information!
The number one comment we are getting from every guest is, "Oh my God, the location!!!!" And, yes, that's true; we have an incredible location. Only one block from Forsyth Park and walkable to everything downtown, Be Our Gaston is proud to call Gaston St. home. It is a gorgeous, quintessential historic district street that is out of the fray -- unlike areas closer to the river. What most people don't realize is that Savannah's historic district is only about 2 square miles, and it is divided into north, south, east, and west districts. When here, visitors cover the entire grid multiple times because it is really that small! Our location is almost in the center of that grid, and it is a lovely place to be!
