It is quite large and needs a couple of hours.
It is quite large and needs a couple of hours. Do't spend so much time downstairs that you are too tired to see upstairs, which is very interesting. The museum itself is a bit old and some things have already been taken to the new museum which should be opening in Giza next year. You will be approached by guides who want to show you round. I would say that you don't really need one the first time you go. I would look around first and then, if you want to know more then hire one. Some guides are good but others do not tell you much more than what you can read for yourself. Remember to haggle as they will start high

Try your best to avoid during peak hours when you have tourist coming in you'll be stuck to have a look at the amazing artificial they show on display. Get your self a guide as the information written before the exhibit does little justice for the artifact your looking at. A Good Egyptologist will not only you it's importance but give you alot of back story and guide you which exhibits to taken in and which ones cam he given a miss

If you are interested in History, even a little bit of it, take a guide from the entrance of the museum. Some of the main things will be covered by them and you can roam freely looking at things afterwards

See it whilst you can.
See it whilst you can. One of the world's great museums, we visited four times and once you get to know it, it's wonderful. It's also frustrating, quirky, and old fashioned - but that's part of the charm. Worth digging into properly.

Just visiting the Tuthankhamon treasures is worth a visit to this museum. Absolutely breathtaking. You will also find many treasures, sculptures, canopic vases and furniture that would be stored inside the burial chambers of the pharaohs.

Can it pass any standards of Museum?
Can it pass any standards of Museum? It has most precious collection in the world. What does the staff do if they cannot even provide labels to artifacts ? You feel like crying looking at it not because it is overstuffed but because it shows no one cares about heritage including the the whole ministry of of Antiquities. They have made the case of return of antiquities to country of origin very weak. Will I come again ,NEVER.

One of the highlights of my stay was the fantastic tours organized by the hotel. Exploring iconic sites like the Pyramids, Saqqara, and the Egyptian Museum with knowledgeable guides made my trip truly memorable.
We were given two connecting rooms, one for us and another for the children, which is exactly what we wanted. The hotel has an outdoor pool which is a bit small but not many other people were using it so that was not a problem. The hotel is just steps from the Egyptian Museum which was a key factor in our decision. Also there's a "La Poire" right across the street which is one of our favorite cafes when in Cairo. With one exception everything went very well.
The Victory of Downtown hotel offers the chance to experience Egyptian hospitality in an authentic setting, that is to say, a small hotel that feels run by a family. The rooms are a nice size and the breakfast room is lovely with windows on multiple sides. It is very convenient to Khan el-Khalili, and the Egyptian Museum in Tahrir and in the shopping center of the city.
The hotel had just acquired the top floor of the building, so we had a gorgeous view looking right out at the Egyptian Museum. The hotel is right in the center of the downtown. It's busy and active, but you really get a feel for what it's like to be in Cairo. And each of the rooms is named after an Egyptian god, which is adorable. We were in the Geb room.
Superb location in central Cairo, minutes from the Egyptian Museum, the river, restaurants and bars. Very reasonably priced and quite clean and comfortable. Also very helpful in organizing for me a 'tailor-made' guided tour of Cairo.
The location is great. It is at center, just on a side of Tahrir square. It is possible to see the Egyptian Museum from the hotel entrance. The breakfast was good. The stuff were friendly and willing to help. The wifi was strongest at the reception area.
Lovely hostel right smack in the middle of Cairo city, within walking distance of Tahrir Square and opposite the Egyptian Museum. Plenty of food options nearby. Staff at the hostel were incredibly warm and hospitable, and I loved the breakfast spread we were indulged with! Wifi was good as well.
Our rooms were beautiful, big, and spacious. Ours was a very comfortable stay. We also appreciate the hotel's location—along the Nile and literally around the corner from the Egyptian Museum. We ate at two of the hotel restaurants, and both were really good.
