Close to a lot of nice cafes and shops. The staff in the subway are pretty touchy, and you have to get the clipper card to use public transport. The area going away from the wharf is quite seedy, like an open-air opium den with drug users injecting in public. Some of the cafes included taxes of ~$30USD, bringing out breakfast for 2 to $85. Better to ask ahead. Expensive place overall.

Union Square is right in the heart of San Francisco with lawns, steps and trees. A perfect square amongst expensive hotels and Macy's store. Nice to sit and eat lunch and watch the passing parade. Also the cable car goes up the side street of Union Square.

We went for the pride parade.
We went for the pride parade. This was a very moving experience and I don't regret going. What was concerning is the security. I was nervous the whole time due to the crowds and lack of police visible. It took over two hours in line to get into the actual celebration event. This was a nightmare. Way too over crowded and unorganized. Not enough ways to get in and out. For an event this big there it should have been better planned for.TammyUnited States of America

Venture outside the most touristy areas like Pier 39 and Union Square - go to Hayes Valley, Pacific Heights, Russian Hill, Cow Hollow, the Marina
