Roman Amphitheater
From the raised terraces to the oval central arena, anyone who's been to a big sports event will feel right at home in Pompeii's Amphitheater. The remains of this impressive structure are so well preserved, it’s easy to imagine how it must have felt here when the air was charged with excitement and cheering. Though the spectators that fill the stands today probably don’t make as much noise, they’re just as interested in what they’re looking at.

I could live next to the ruins just to be able to visit as often as possible. The preserved frescos, murals, and mosaics are so attractive. Many structures are preserved enough that one can imagine something of the town's daily routine. I cannot wait to visit again.

Go early in the day, it can be hot.
Go early in the day, it can be hot. Bring lots of water and hook up with a tour guide and allow plenty of time in certain houses. Learn a bit about Pompeii life and just try to imagine walking these streets 2000 years ago. Gaze up at Vesuvius and marvel.

You may have seen TV programs and documentaries about Pompei, but an actual visit to the architectural ruins is just mind-blowing. It's pretty difficult to grasp what they've managed to unearth over the centuries - it's so beautifully preserved that you can very easily imagine yourself donning a toga and being part of an ancient Roman city. It's a fully immersive experience - no video trickery here, just a plain and simple reality of life 2000 years ago. The awful misfortune for those who were living through the eruption, gave us this amazing window into their everyday lives.
One of the best sights I have ever visited.

Best to visit later in the day.
Best to visit later in the day. The light was amazing at 16:00 at the beginning of October. The admission was less at that time as well but we didn't realize it. Bonus! 😀👍 Spend a night or 2. Most people are day trippers, and they are missing out. It's a nice place (like Paestum) to experience at different times of day.

I visited in October which is outside of peak season. Places to stay get a whole lot cheaper and less busy, the ruins were still very busy in the main but i dread to think of them in peak season. Very sunny for me and had temperatures of 26c all week.

This place is amazing but it’s a scorcher in the middle of a summer day. There’s very little shade, and you will need a solid 3 to 4 hours to see the basics. Go first thing in the morning if you can. Unless you are climbing Vesuvius of course, do that first! Tempo Travel is the best company to take you to the top.

A nice 2 bedroom apartment in Pompeii with free parking and breakfast option included.
Friendly and welcoming staff at the check in, breakfast area.
The apartment was pretty big and is almost a luxurious one with large bedrooms, comfortable beds and well equipped kitchen and baths.
The apartments are in a residential area yet within 20/30 mins walking distance from the Pompeii ruins. restaurants and cafes.
Enough towels, toiletries provisioned for few nights stay and we thoroughly enjoyed our stay here.
You'll truly feel like you're staying in a renovated Pompeii house! Perfectly located just 5 minutes walk from the entrance to the Pompeii ruins (Porta Marina) and 5 minutes to the modern town center of Pompeii. Andrea will meet you and help you with anything you may need. Beautiful bathroom including one of the largest showers in an Italian hotel room. Highly recommended
This apartment was clean, central, and very comfortable. It was perfect for our family. Our children loved the toys and coloring books. Each morning, the breakfast was amazing and Katarina accommodated multiple food allergies. We could walk to the Pompeii ruins or to the train station. Private parking was excellent. Several delicious restaurants (including Todisco!) and gelaterias nearby.
The apartment is a 10-minute walk to the Piazza Immaculata entrance to the Pompeii Ruins. Very modern rooms. Onsite, safe parking for cars. Close to main piazza and shopping/restaurant area.
Comfy and clean apartment in a beautifully renovated building and friendly town. Excellent location. Pompeii ruins, bus to Vesuvius, restaurants, etc are all basically at your doorstep. Train station near by, for easy day trips and transfers. Super friendly, caring and welcoming host, who made us feel at home right away. Our favourite apartment during our travels!
The apartment is very comfortable and in a good location to visit the Pompeii Archeological Park. There is a secured parking space behind the apartment. It is close enough to the Pompeii train station and entrance to the Pompeii ruins to walk there. There is a large terrace and the kitchen has enough utensils to accommodate some cooking. It is next door to a very good supermarket with many local specialties. Mr. Guiseppe, who met us with the keys, is very kind and made sure we were comfortable with everything before he left us.
The included dinner was SO GOOD - my husband and I agreed it was the best meal we had on our trip to Italy. The pool was a refreshing way to end a long, hot day of touring Pompeii. The hotel is only a short walk to the main entrance of the Pompeii ruins. We were shown wonderful hospitality throughout our stay.
Hotel Diana is located within walking distance to the train station and the entrance to the Pompeii Archeological park. The staff were extremely pleasant, helpful and friendly. They arranged an excellent tour of the Pompeii ruins with a locate guide for us. The quadruple room was comfortable and clean (queen and a bunk bed). Nice breakfast and plenty of great restaurants in the area! You'll love this place!
Hotel ideally located for Pompeii ruins, train station and a short walk to centre of Pompei town.
Staff were very helpful and attentive and supplied a lovely continental breakfast each day and at our request provided an early breakfast on departure day - service was first class. The exterior of the property does not do it justice but once inside it is lovely and characterful.
the apartment’s location is great! close to downtown and Pompeii ruins.
very clean and had everything we needed for our stay.
Frank was very hospitable and helped with anything we needed.
Frank’s wife baked a delicious cake that was waiting for us upon arrival.
