Angkor Wat

This epic temple is so revered in Cambodia it appears on the country’s flag. Built during the 12th-century heyday of the Khmer Empire, it was first dedicated to the Hindu god Vishnu before becoming a Buddhist temple. In terms of size and complexity, you can’t help but be bowled over by its barrage of giant moats, steep walls and lofty beehive-like towers.

    Wonderful site.

Wonderful site. The biggest and best preserved relic of that era hundreds of years ago. Most of the time one can escape the crowds and have some moments of peace, especially away from the center of the site.

This is an amazing place that should be visited several times. The government managed tourist pass can cover three days which provides access to the temple area of Seim Reap. I recommend a first visit with a government registered guide. Then return on later days to wander and really immerse yourself in the history. Make sure your camera is ready to take a lot of photos because you will find yourself snapping shots very quickly and often.

Choose a sun rise tour. I would recommend to get a 3 day pass. Day one go for a short circuit sun rise tour. Day 2 go for a long circuit guided tour. On the day 3, rent a bike and explore the place yourselves.

I hired a tuktuk to get to the temple at dawn to watch the sun rises behind the temple. I love that experience of capturing the sun rising along with hundreds of other tourists. Later I strolled inside the temple complex listening to live traditional music performed by local groups. Mesmerising experience!

    Go Early!

Go Early! The heat, humidity, and crowds can get you if your not careful, take plenty of water. Buy your tickets the day before and carry your passport with you as regular checks are made against the ticket names. Hire a Tuk-tuk and a three-day ticket to see many more temples (some are just as amazing as Ankor Wat!

I had a wonderful stay at Angkor Land Urban Boutique. The location was perfect, just a stone's throw away from Angkor Wat. The staff were incredibly friendly and went out of their way to make sure I had everything I needed. The room was spotless and comfortable, making it easy to relax after a long day of exploring. The Siem Reap Comfort has a great location in the city. It was nice to jump in the pool after a day of tours. The hotel staff were really welcoming and friendly and the breakfast was nice. We arranged pick up from the airport and we ended up using the Tuk Tuk driver , Thom, for the rest of our stay. Thom was so nice and helpful to us, he was very knowledgeable about Siem Reap and Angkor Wat. He really made our trip to Cambodia. I will definitely stay here again.

I booked an Angkor Wat tour with Tuktuk through them, and my guide, Mr Kosal, was really wonderful—informative and personable. I loved this hostel! It was clean and comfortable. The staff were so welcoming. You can book a group Angkor Wat tour through them, and also rent a bike or motorcycle or even book your bus to Phnom Penh. The place was maybe a 15-20 minute walk to Pub Street. I liked the location - walkable to other parts of town but not in the middle of the hustle bustle. It wasn’t a party hostel, it felt more like a boutique hotel. Their restaurant’s fish amok was very tasty! I wish all lodging felt like this.
