Had a truly wonderful stay in this family owned and run hotel! We arrived late at around 10pm and there was no issue in getting settled in as the keys and rooms were ready when we arrived. The owners were also generally responsive. A carpark across the road from the hotel provided sufficient space. The rooms were just lovely! They were clean and gave off a very homey vibe. Everything we need for a comfortable stay has been provided - clean towels, soap, a hearty yummy buffet breakfast! Karl, the owner, has kindly made a barista coffee for me. While he maintains that his English wasn't very good, he still tried his best to connect with us. (I think his English is good) Karl is just the loveliest! I have left my passport after the check-in process and he notified the lady at the place where we went to so the lady can give me a heads up to retrieve my passport from a nearby restaurant, Karl and his family own. It would have been such a huge headache if I missed to retrieve passport. I managed to get my passport from their restaurant. And I had the warmest welcome from everyone. They even invited me to had a shot haha. I would've joined if I wouldn't be driving. Karl, with a young man, performed with a native Austrian musical instrument, and Karl also sang beautifully! I was truly impressed. Best stay I had in Europe! Can't wait to go back! This is truly a hidden gem

FAQs about hotels in Zillertal

Picture-perfect Zillertal

Nestled between the snow-capped Zillertal Alps and the grassy peaks of the Kitzbühel Alps is the picture-perfect Zillertal region. Stretching from the villages of Strass to Mayrhofen then dividing into four smaller valleys.

Zillertal Arena is the perfect facility for the lovers of snowboarding, skiing, hiking, and mountain biking. It is the largest ski area in the region ranging over 163 km and features 50 lifts which have the capacity to transport up to 76,000 people per hour.

The charming and traditional Austrian town of Mayrhofen is only a 1-hour drive from Tyrol. It is a popular spot for trail-walking and hiking, with hundreds of marked trails available for all kinds of walkers. Enjoy a taste of the local gastronomy in the restaurants and old-style coffee houses scattered around the town. Mayrhofen is also famous for hosting the Snowbombing Music Festival, usually held in April each year.

Adjacent to Mayrhofen is the prehistoric and quaint parish of Tux, one of the most popular skiing destinations in Austria during the summer. You even catch a glimpse of the local theatre which is held in the centre of Tux. Visitors can immerse themselves in the stunning scenery of The Zillertal from the carriages of a traditional steam train departing from the Zillertalbahn (Zillertal Railway Station).

Booking.com offers a variety of accommodation options in Mayrhofen and Tux, from traditional chalet-style hotels, to luxurious 4-star Spa hotels in the Ziller Valley.

The ski area has a good range of slopes for novice/intermediates. If you are a total beginner there are better areas to start your skiing adventures. The best slopes in our opinion are a few runs and ski lifts away from the ascent via the Penkenbahn but are so worth it. Ahorn is good for an easy accessible confidence boost run or 2 and has some fun areas for the children. Hintertux glacier is a good day out and free bus available but can be super busy. We flew in to Innsbruck and then took the train to Mayrhofen for the first time and it was super easy and good value.

Fugen is a great base for the Zillertal Valley.

Fugen is a great base for the Zillertal Valley. There are good restaurants and bars and it is less noisy than some places. Easy road and rail access to the other resorts. We have stayed in this village several times. We really like not having to queue at bust times to get up the valley. We always leave early to get on the lifts and the roads are quiet then. Highly recommended.

This skiing area is large enough for a week, except when you are a experienced skier, then it might be too small. It was 14-17 °C all week (march '25 !!!) and there was still enough snow on the slopes, just not in the valley below. Good slopes, not too many for real beginners though. Several kid's fun slopes, and several action parks, slaloms with movie recordings and speed checks. Nice to download the movies afterwards!

Ski runs in Tux a bit short, but in general area is big and beautiful, also there are massive Zillertal Arena and Hintertux Glacier ski areas near by. We were traveling by car (there are also ski busses), so visited all nearby skiing locations (you may buy one skipass which will cover all of them). Also I'd recommend great Spa/pool facilities - Erlebnistherme Zillertal

Beautiful scenery and passes to cross for the motorbike. Stayed at Gast Hof Kuhle Rast, great hotel, lovely breakfast and evening meal, this place is a great find. (Not for the disabled as on a hill and accommodation is upstairs). Wonderful for an overnight but better still for a weeks holiday. They have 3 sitting out areas and a great seating area inside. Rustic Austria. The scenery was fantastic.

Kaltenbach is a relatively remote village, offering a peaceful atmosphere and authentic alpine charm. However, its location is very convenient, as it is close to great attractions around the Zillertal Valley. Whether you're interested in outdoor activities or simply enjoying the stunning scenery, this area has much to offer.

This was my 3rd visit to Mayrhofen over the last 20 years and it has grown and the lift access has improved vastly. Had a very relaxing holiday and there are plenty shops and cafes/restaurants to choose from in the evening. There is a Deli across from the Penkan lift that does the most delicious smoked ham sandwich, you know it is good when you see the lines of people there in the evening.
