A very old hotel, but very clean, comfy beds, warm shower, coffee facilities, microwave, air con. Large room. Queen bed and single. Under $110. 2 days notice, also the location is locked up after the pub shuts, can only open from inside. Nice and safe for you, your vehicle and your belongings. Walking distance to the town centre and foreshore. I have stayed a number of times and will keep returning.

A little Oasis in the middle of nowhere. Overlooking a dry river bed. Stunning Australian birds and trees. Loved the delicious coffee at the onsite cafe. We enjoyed the slow roasted Beef Cheeks in the outside Garden area. About 100km south of Carnarvon which suited us. The campground and facilities are great.

VERY NICE TOWN AND CLEAN.

VERY NICE TOWN AND CLEAN. THE AREA AROUND THE MOUTH OF THE GASCOYNE RIVER IN TOWN IS WELL KEPT AND REGULARY USED. A GREAT CHOICE OF PLACES TO STAY AND EATING. THE FISH AND CHIP CARAVAN IN THE MAIN STREET DOES GREAT FOOD. A FEW CHOICES FOR PIZZA BUT THE BEST IS THE ONE IN THE OLD POST OFFICE IN THE MAIN STREET OPPOSITE THE FISH AND CHIPPY POP UP. A GREAT TOWN TO STAY AND DO DAY TRIPS TO SITES AROUND CARNARVON. NOT SURE WHY THE BANNANA GROWERS DONT HAVE A POP UP IN TOWN AND THE ONES WITH A SHOP AT THE FRONT OF THERE PROPERTIES USUALLY RUN OUT OF BANNANAS.

Our accommodation at #2 chalet at Tasman Holiday Park was perfect. Very comfortable. Jo at reception was really friendly and helpful. The Shark Bay Hotel was ok, cold drinks and great location but food was not great and we didn't feel welcome there. The Old Pearler is a great building and we had an (expensive) dinner, atmosphere was lovely. Both supermarkets were great, very helpful and could have a chat and learn a bit more about the area and places to go. We also bought seafood from Shark Bay Fish Factory which was amazing. Unfortunately, Roger Cook's government is closing commercial fishing in the area from January 1 2026 and so they will no longer be operational. What a loss! Location was perfect for us with easy access to Monkey Mia. We also came at a time that was quiet and I believe Denham can become very busy at peak times.

Carnarvon Gateway Motel My experience was appalling,...

Carnarvon Gateway Motel My experience was appalling, distressing, and far below acceptable health and safety standards. Upon checking in, I was assigned a room that was infested with cockroaches, visibly dirty, and contained someone else’s clothing from a previous guest. When I called the motel owner to report this, I was met with rudeness and indifference. She told me to “squish them and deal with it,” despite me explaining that I had already killed several cockroaches and could see more crawling along the walls while on the phone with her. When I asked what could be done, she replied, “What do you want me to do about it?” and then hung up on me. At this point, I was extremely upset and prepared to sleep in my car, as every other accommodation in Carnarvon was fully booked. Approximately 40 minutes later, a staff member knocked on my door and apologised for the situation. He inspected the room, confirmed the infestation, and began searching for an alternative room with me. Over the next two hours (from 11:00 PM until around 1:00 AM), we inspected approximately 30 different rooms, all of which were infested with cockroaches, filthy, and in disrepair. Many rooms had heavy dust build-up, mould in the bathrooms, ripped bedding, and visible spider webs. One even had a frog inside. The overall state of the motel was disgraceful and unsanitary. Eventually, I was placed in a room that the staff member admitted was “blocked off” because it did not have a working fire alarm—a major safety violation. While this room also had cobwebs and a noticeable odour, it was the cleanest available, and I was completely exhausted from hours of searching. This entire ordeal left me distressed, exhausted, and disgusted. The conditions at Carnarvon Gateway Motel present clear health, hygiene, and safety risks, and the owner’s dismissive and unprofessional response was unacceptable.

We went out to Francoise Peron national park (4WD only), the Aquarium with lunch, and golf at the most westerly course and a good meal at the pub. Due to the weather our trip to Dirk Hartog was cancelled but we support the wise decision of the tour operator who provided us a 100% refund.

Carnarvon is a quiet coastal town with a relaxed pace.

Carnarvon is a quiet coastal town with a relaxed pace. You’ll find fresh produce at the Gascoyne Growers’ Market and local seafood at nearby cafes. The Fascine waterfront is great for walks and sunset views. Visit the Carnarvon Space and Technology Museum for a look at Australia’s role in space history. The One Mile Jetty and Heritage Precinct offer a glimpse into the town’s past. Quobba Blowholes and the nearby coral coast are good for day trips. The town suits short stays and road trips. Accommodation is simple and service is friendly.

Beautiful town very relaxed great views and a couple of good pubs. Visitor centre is well worth a visit plenty of history of the town. Monkey Mia was brilliant seeing the dolphins close up was an experience we will never forget. Ocean Park aquarium has plenty to see and provides a guided tour with a large amount of sea life to see. Guides very knowledgeable. Plenty of beaches to visit and some awesome photo opportunities. I can recommend Pauls tyres he fixed up my punctured tyre quickly and cheaply he also is the RAC call out man.

For kids, it's okay.

For kids, it's okay. However, the cost of the 850km drive from Perth is not commensurate with the facilities. Cervantes is a 100% better place to visit and be in the ocean. As they say, over the blaring megaphone, the dolphins might not turn up. Moreover, people are made to stand at the water's edge and not in the water. There is no touching or interaction with the dolphins. Sea World is more fun and of greater value.
