Hotel in Historic Charlottetown Waterfront, Charlottetown
Inn on the Harbour is located in Charlottetown, just across the street from the Charlottetown waterfront. Free WiFi access and a daily full breakfast are also available. We stayed here for 7 nights. An excellent Inn close to the waterfront and a short walk to the centre of the city. Very friendly and welcoming family operation. The breakfast was excellent with a hot item that changed daily. We particularly enjoyed the omelette and pancakes. Also tasty baked items. The place was spotless. They even gave us a substantial “to go” box for breakfast the night before our departure as we had to leave before breakfast was served. Price was good given the high prices for accommodation in Charlottetown in the summer.

I love Prince Edward Island. Cavendish is a playground for children to enjoy their summer. Everything is easily accessible and the views coming into Cavendish are awesome. Great place to vacation if you are looking for peace and relaxation.
A charming little town to the east of Prince Edward Island which punches well above it's weight... The fireworks on Canada Day lasted almost 15 minutes and could have been from a town with a population twice as large. Well done!
Nice, picturesque town on a picturesque harbour in the picturesque eastern reaches of Prince Edward Island. I kind of hate to give this great place a good review because I'd love to keep it all to myself.
As a child, I spent my summers on Brackley Beach, PEI, where I grew up. It was wonderful to return and relive some of those memories with my teenage son. Just a note to seasoned travellers: this is truly one of the most beautiful beaches in the world! And September was a great time to visit. Summer temperatures and few tourists. I walked the beach alone in the mornings, encounterd only one or two people who came toward me smiling. Prince Edward Islanders are among the friendliest people on the planet. A great trip back home :-)
Prince Edward Island is a rural idyll. Charlottetown is small enough to be friendly, easy to get around and with plenty of historical interest from the old residential buildings to the government buildings. The Confederation discussions which historically were so important to Canada took place here. We were on holiday in Nova scotia but decided to spend a few days on PEI as its only a 75 min ferry crossing from Pictou to Wood Island. A good decision. The island is bigger than we thought so only managed to see some of it in 3 days. Our favourite was the small coastal town of Georgetown. Lovely walks and great food in the one restaurant right on the shore.
The purpose of my trip was family history research and I would have liked to have had the opportunity to spend more time at the archives researching but time ran out. I had hired a car so apart from walking the town centre I was able to drive all over Chroottetown and much of Prince Edward Island. I arrived on 20th October and it was just a little too late as most places had closed for the year not to open again until the spring. Next time I will come a bit earlier and take advantage of e festivals and celebrations that occur in August and September.
We stayed in Cavendish for 6 days and it was a great location to drive to all the places we wanted to visit on Prince Edward Island. We had only one regret about our trip to PEI and it was that a large proportion of the entertainment, restaurants, businesses etc were closed for the season, this was something we did not know would happen in October so were a little surprised.
Charlottetown is a gem of a small city at the heart of the vacation paradise that is Prince Edward Island. If you want a getaway from the hustle and bustle of the modern world, travelling to the Island is a step into the past. Charlottetown provides the anchor for that past. You can find modern shopping and conveniences here, of course, and you can find luxury accommodations, but the best part of your holiday is the history, the peace, the quiet, and the relaxation that the city provides. Although sometimes busy and hard to get around by car (traffic jams can last all of three or four minutes!), the downtown is incredibly walkable and parking on the streets is free on weekends. Sure, you may have to circle the block a few times to find a spot, but if you just part two streets away you can walk over to the busier parts of town and enjoy them without worrying about parking. It is a tremendous vacation spot for families, couples, and individuals.
The old section of the town is beautiful and the restaurants are excellent with very friendly staff. Great craft beer places as well. Prince Edward Island is stunning with beautiful little beaches dotted around the coast. Well worth a visit.
We visited in the Fall and the leaves were beautiful. A great time to visit as the weather is not too cold and the streets are not congested with other tourists. This is a gracious city which takes pride in its history and its people. It is possible to base yourself here and to do day trips to many other areas of Prince Edward Island.
