You should accept the typically Carribean circumstances ( reggea, little shabby, motorbikes) and you will have a lovely stay there. Everything is within walking distance but you can rent a buggy or bike to go around. There are colourful festivals like the Emancipation Day or the August 7 Carneval in San Luis. Do not miss the Aquarium and Johnny Cay! The best beaches are in San Luis.Guest review byErikaHungary - 10.0

Getting to Providencia seems like a hassle, particularly for those who are not coming from Colombia, but it's actually quite easy and worth the visit! People on the island are very friendly, making it feel safe for solo travelers or couples. There are spots to eat within walking distance of the major beaches. Because the island relies on tourism, one can easily find a tour guide to take them diving, hiking, or generally from place to place. Getting around is easy via motorbike or golf cart.Guest review byNadiaLaos - 10.0

The Tonton's house is a big house where you can find a comfortable room, kitchen, fridge and bathroom. Also you can lay down in the hamacas, take some fruit like mango and tamarindo. The owners are a lovely family with all the experience to make feel very welcome like a neighbor. In little hill you have the best beach (Rocky cay beach) in all San Andrés, by only 2 minutes walking. It's a perfect point to visite all the island. -Madguana bar , ask to Cesar or Sarco for ceviches and mojitos -Reina del mar, ask to Angie the best margarita ever bar in the beach -Restaurant the Grog Rocky cayGuest review byJosserrezFrance - 10.0
Santa Catalina is the smaller island north of Providence.
Santa Catalina is the smaller island north of Providence. It's quieter, walking-only, and connected to the other island via a bridge. In a way, this is the prettier island, and it's got the historic fort plus pirate hideouts to the north (accessable via swimming or boat). It's got a tiny, quiet beach which is absolutely gorgeous. Both islands combined are tiny and easy to get around, so I ate on Providencia mostly, though there are cafes on Santa Catalina and I bought drinks and snacks at the shops on Santa Catalina. I liked staying on Santa Catalina and would stay there next time.Guest review byTanksalvalaUnited States - 4.0
The airport is an utter disaster.
The airport is an utter disaster. In Colombia, I have normally come across very polite and helpful officials. San Andres is the exception. The airport officials are cold, rude and unhelpful. There is also a stupid rule where visitors go through 'immigration' despite already being in the country. The officials demand onward travel and hotel accommodation. the airport is stiflingly hot and is utterly unbearable. On our third night on the island, I thought I heard firecrackers going off so went on the balcony. They were actually gunshots and I only realised this when the place was swarming with armed police two minutes later. I would not visit the island again and would not recommend it to others.Guest review byJohnUnited Kingdom - 10.0

Old orovidence is an amazing island and people, it is more caribbean than colombian. The food is fantastic, poeple are are guenuinely kind. The paces to visit are beautiful, some of the beaches are tucked away and off the beaten track, manchaneel beach. It is quiet, if you wat to rest, write or be creative. There are still signs of the devistation from hurricane Iota, but thats because those in charge have been slow to remove it. However this does not take away from neopolitan ice cream coloured churches and houses. It definitely has a sea of seven colours. It is an unspoilt jewel in the caribbean.Guest review byKarenUnited Kingdom - 8.0

As a civil engineer and knowing that sewage from the town is pumped into the sea I would not go in the water on this side of the island unless I could see some independent water testing results. This goes for any large city on the sea. But the pool was great and I tested the water to find it was always within tolerance. There is something for everyone on San Andres and, being quite small, a taxi can take you around it in 2 hours for 250,000 peso - about £50. I travel solo around the world and I would say that the vast majority of Colombians, like most nationslities, are very kind and helpful. As its an island with a strong police presence, I would say its a lot safer than most European citiesGuest review byBarry - 6.0
The island is beautiful and not crowded at all.
The island is beautiful and not crowded at all. However, it has a terrible stray dog issue. Especially at Southwest beach where a few roam around in the evenings attacking tourists. One of them bit me. If you’re traveling alone, I’d keep that in mind.Guest review byRonald
