The location is very close to some major attractions in the island. The host speaks good English and is super helpful. The quaint boutique hotel has several levels (no elevator). The “small double room” (the only option we had) is very small for two people and is facing the street. Fortunately there is very little traffic before 8am when it’s dark. The breakfast (from 8:30 to 10) has all the usual foods like deli meat and cheeses, bread, scrambled eggs, fruits and drinks.

Beautiful setting, lovely room, great staff and good food. Hotel was perfect for our trip, lots of comfortable seating areas inside and out to take advantage of the beautiful views. Breakfast buffet was really good and we enjoyed dinner in the restaurant too. Parking at the hotel was plentiful also.

It is a very old house renovated to the most recent standards. The area is very quiet with a lovely garden around. We've slept incredibly good in there! A perfect place for a couple or a family with an indoor barbecue and great vibe

For us the property was perfect extremely quiet and peaceful. Grocery stores are close by and where we wanted to do some walking was a short drive away. Incredible views.

The town was close by and had all the amenities you could hope for. The restaurants were all varied and excellent value. Frontera itself was centrally located, the ideal place to explore the readt of the island. The roads are excellent and mostly easy to drive with the exception of a mountain pass to the south of the island which was pretty hair raising but good fun if care taken.

Most restaurants closed for Christmas so, as we prefer eating in the evening without driving, we ate most evenings in the apartment. Much less to do in town than we anticipated. The island of El Hierro is really beautiful. Great for sightseeing and trekking. Very friendly people.

This town is the main service centre for the island and has most facilities. The bus network is centered here. Some bus routes must be pre-booked. The tourist office isn't very good. It couldn't provide a bus timetable and sent us to the wrong place to get one. However, bus times are available online and a paper copy can be collected from the bus station. Walking routes are well signposted and waymarked and there is a good network in all directions.

La Frontera is a lively, small town that offers all for the daily needs. Good location to experience the island of El Hierro. Many small restaurants, bars and small supermarkets and sports shops. In comparison, Valverde, despite capital, seems deserted and kind of depressing. La Restinga is too far away from anything else on the island. My recommendation therefore is clearly the area of La Frontera.

La Restinga is a lovely fishing port at the very southern tip of this beautiful island, and actually the continent of Europe. It has only a few bars and restaurants and a couple of small, but well stocked, mini markets. There are a couple of sandy beach areas as well as wooden sunbathing platforms close to steps to get into the sea. There is a public bus service but I would strongly recommend car hire.

Valverde was my "home town" and so I am prejudiced in its favour. My visit this time was to complete some business from when I was resident. The name extends to a wider area known as the ayuntamiento of which there are now three on the island. The town is also the island capital and so, by default, provides needs not fulfilled elsewhere. For example the hospital provides higher standards of care than would be expected in a community of around just ten thousand. Visitors should be aware of temperature gradients across the island. It is often true that Valverde town is seven degrees cooler than places on the coast - but the reverse can occur under some conditions! Valverde is a compact human-scale town. Everywhere (except some residential suburbs) is reachable within 15-20 minutes walk. There are several 'bus services mainly 4/5 times daily to other parts of the island and so Valverde is a good transport hub.

A beautifull Island, very different than all other Canary Islands. Its Nature is very well preserved, its under UNESCO Biosphere Reserve, its fossil free, has lots of very well marked hiking ways allover the island, beautifull Natural pools on the coasts, some few black sand beaches, the highlands / mountain regions are very green with old Canary Pine trees and Laurel trees, a lot of endemic plants, the coasts are more vulcanic, some very barren, the views from all the Miradors are stunning. you feel far away from everything, clean air, very clear sea, wind, waves, sunshine, cooling climate in the mountains, warm on the coasts...all this you can experience on this small island.

This is primarily a spot for diving enthusiasts.

This is primarily a spot for diving enthusiasts. We used it as a springboard to visit other places as it's supposed to be sunnier and warmer in winter than places farther inland or to the north. There aren't many options for restaurants and such - I'm not sure if it would be different in summer. Most are fairly traditional-looking and dishes are similar in most. Breakfast options were scarce - you'd be better off doing your own. I didn't see any bakeries nor cafés. Almost all of them were the all-in-one type of places. There are a lot of slopes, so I wouldn't recommend La Restinga for those with mobility issues.
