Superb, high quality hotel in all respects. Staff at reception very helpful, waiters and waitresses in the hotel restaurant equally professional. Excellent menu and excellent breakfasts. The best hotel dinners and breakfasts I've had in any hotel in France over the past 10 years. The rooms are spacious with equally spacious and well fitted bathrooms. Beds super comfy. Garage parking for an extra payment for motorcycle which was especially useful as it rained every day and most nights!

Montpellier is a fairly compact city with a rich selection of historic sights, landmarks, museums, galleries, and public spaces a very short distance from each other if you are staying in the center/old town. The streets are windy and many are cobble-stoned, with many side streets with interesting shops, bistros, and restaurants to discover constantly as you walk around. It is definitely a walkable city that richly rewards an out-going curiosity. Montpellier is considered a destination for tourists who already know France fairly well, although you will have no trouble getting by with English. The locals are gracious and friendly to a fault, with a young-persons vibe throughout due to the high population of university students who live in the city. A highly recommended destination for lovers of French culture and of France itself.

We loved it.

We loved it. Planned to go to Arles and Uzes but stayed in Nimes as we enjoyed its small allies, shops and restaurants, and did not want to leave. A beautiful walkable city, even for seniors, which dates to ancient Roman times, which we were never aware of. Vast gardens with Roman antiquities and a Roman shrine of Diana. Water running from the spring and between the gardens through the city in a large and beautiful canal along the streets. The "Maison Carree" is beautiful and well preserved The Cathedral is different than others we visited and is very specialץ אhe Arrena is very impressive. The mix of ancient sites from 2,000 years ago, Neo-Classist buildings dated 100-200 years ago, and modern architecture is impressive and creates a serene and enjoyable ambiance. Good restaurants we enjoyed were "The Bird", "La Pie qui Couette" (which was excellent), "Le Bar du Cheval Blanc" (an excellent French choice in a special domed building and a great bar with enormous choice of wines and alcohols), "Tempo" with its original "different" entrees. We will be back for "Le 9" and "Derriere L'Eglise".

Great medieval town with lots to do, the old town has lots to explore with entry only paid for the castle but the rest available for free including church. Lovely alley ways to investigate and a walk around the ramparts. The rest of Carcassonne new town is also well worth time, with the river and canal walks a thing to do, the weekly market in the new and old town are worth a visit, wonderful cheese and local products on display.

Lots of history to look into, from Roman times through middle ages to now; some very nice restaurants; Les Halles is a great market; nice ambiance, cafés etc. Favorite spots - the cathedral and archbishops' palace, Les Halles, Narbo Via (fascinating), along the canals. Restos - En Face, Chez Lulu, Les Halles. Very walkable smaller town. Good base for visiting the area, Carcassonne, Sète, Gruissan etc. It was cold in November and people said Narbonne is known for wind, we packed our snuggies

The best thing for me was the Eglise de la Madeleine, which is ravishing in its simplicity, dignity and history; and the art trail, which were great finds. I liked the cafes and fountains in the Place Jean Jaure, the belle epoch architecture, the bookshops, and the flower market, as well as the cartoons rather romantically depicting moments in the town's history. On this occasion, I wish I had one more day to walk the canal and spend time down at the Fonseranne Loch - it might have given me a bit of a different impression of the town, which I felt had an uncomfortably stark and divided sense between poor and wealthy areas, which I understand is reflected politically.

Font Romeu was made as a sporting resort in the 1920s.

Font Romeu was made as a sporting resort in the 1920s. Odeillo further down the hill was the original village. Because of the benefits of the healthy air, originally Font Romeu was used as a place to treat patients with breathing problems. That no longer is the case. Now it is a ski resort and also a summer destination. The views are spectacular and the skiing is augmented by many snow cannons. There are also many rambling routes. There are restaurants and shops but these are quite seasonal and often closed in low season. Font Romeu is also a good base from which to visit local towns and villages, also lakes and even the sea, either in France or, slightly further afield in Northern Spain.
