A modern hotel in a historic building, comfortable relatively spacious room, excellent breakfast. You can take several nice short walks in the gardens of the property, one leads to the ruins of the Furness Abbey. Make sure that the hotel does not host a wedding during your stay if you want to avoid loud music

FAQs about hotels in Lake District

Poetic Artistry at its Best

The inspiration behind many a poet, the serene Lake District has majestic peaks and glorious lakes that form the UK’s largest and most visited national park.

A particular favourite of Wordsworth, Windermere is England’s longest lake and her waters are still plied by historic boats. With a range of luxury Lake District hotels and a Beatrix Potter Museum, the town is connected by cable-operated car ferry to a spot close to Near Sawrey where Miss Potter once lived. Near the lake’s northern tip is popular Ambleside, home of the Stock Ghyll Force waterfall.

A road goes north from here past picturesque Grasmere and Thirlmere lake to Keswick. Set by Derwent Water, this pretty town is overlooked by Skiddaw, while Scafell Pike – England’s highest mountain – is to its south-west. Bassenthwaite lake is north-west, and Glenridding to the east is on the shores of the popular sailing spot of Ullswater, watched over by Helvellyn.

In the Southern Lakes, Coniston is a small village by a lake offering watersports. South-west is the port town of Barrow-in-Furness, and also by the sea is Grange-over-Sands with its long promenade. Kendal is known for its tasty mint cake and has a museum of Lakeland life, as well as a good range of Lake District hotels with pools on Booking.com.

The perfect getaway after the hustle and bustle of Christmas - and probably the quietest time of the year to enjoy The Lakes without the crowds. Check out Brysons (delicious food and very generous sized sandwiches), The Cornish pie shop (great produce and service) and Roly’s Fudge shop where you can see the creamy, crumbly fudge being made.

Came here as a result of a cancelled trip to Switzerland Switzerland (Flight cancelled to inclement weather) Windermere is an amazing location for its stunning scenery/lake and friendly locals and amazing in all seasons and most weather. Definitely rent one of the self drive boats which is £40 for an hour where you can explore the lake And don't leave without some Kendal chocolate mint cake, that's a must if your in the lake district.

Kendal is a very interesting town just at the border with the Lake District National Park. It offers a lot of eateries and it is a great starting point to explore The Lakes. It is full of history. The last wife of Henry VIII comes from here. The remnants of the castle are very picturesque. And do not forget about the very local speciality: Kendal mint cakes.

Small but compact village. Lots of shops, art, books, gifts. Good choice of places to eat. Beautiful old church and historical grounds. Famous Grassmere Gingerbread shop should not be missed. Sadly the big garden centre shop has changed hands, now sells mainly local woolen goods and ceramics, quite expensive and for the space, boring. Good parking, unless high season, when it becomes a struggle.

While Barrow is a submarine building town, there are so many highlights to look out for. The Queens Arms pub, Biggar is a gem - Phil Collins used to visit his main Roadie there. Walney Island itself offers a pleasant stroll along the miles of beach, while at the southern end, there's a nature reserve. Piel Island is a gem, but requires a ferry across the water from Walney. Equally interesting is Skelmore Heads Fort, Birkrigg Stone Circle and Gleaston Water Mill - there's a castle too, in need of repair just up the road, Mill Lane. Back on the outskirts of Barrow, there's the abbey as well, so lots of cultural things to explore without moving out of the penninsula. Great fun!

The area is ideal for visiting the southern Lakes, the Cumbria peninsular, easy access from the M6. Spectacular views of mountains, great opportunity for outdoor activities such as walking, cycling, canoeing, running. Most attractions have restricted opening hours out of main season, so research well and you wont be disappointed. Even when there was inclement weather, there"s enough in nearby towns to occupy you. Shops, Theatres, cinema etc
