Oxford is not only the college area but also the capital of Oxfordshire. It's wonderful to take a walk in the school and the city.
Railway and walking enthusiasts willing find this to be a good base location to explore south Oxfordshire.
I adore Oxford, I favour trips to historic cities and have a passion for architecture so of course I am going to adore Oxford. Shopping certainly is not my thing, but for those who like It, most of the big high street chains can be found here and high end shopping can be found in Bicester Village Outlet on the outskirts to the city. Most of the colleges are open to the public although access times are restricted as they are a place of study and accommodation for the students, but certainly a trip to Oxford would not be the same without a visit to the world famous and historic colleges. With a cheap Pitkin Guide book to Oxford and The Colleges, it is easy to find your way around, but if solo exploring is not for you, then Tour guides abound (especially on Broad Street) for free or cheap escorted tours around the city. Fans of Morse/Lewis will find tours dedicated to the TV shows that also take in the colleges and a fair few pubs too. The colleges also have vast gardens maintained to high standard, so for those who like horticulture, Oxford College Gardens are a delight in Spring and Summer months. Oxford Is easy to get around on foot and by highly efficient bus service, locals mainly use bike as it is a very flat and cycle friendly city. Museums are amazing and for those who rather be outdoors, you cant really see Oxford without going out on the river for a punt, row or cruise, a cruise through the ancient land of Port Meadow is divine when the sun is shinning and the evenings are light. Easy access to London, so may be worth staying here for all the delights Oxfordshire and travel in to London on the very frequent train service.
Lovely part of the country with lots to see and do. We ate at the Bell at Hampton Poyle for a Sunday lunch with relatives. That was very goo. Also ate at the Oxfordshire Inn a couple of nights and the food was good.
Woodstock is a remarkably picturesque Oxfordshire village. Great restaurants and great shops and of course Blenheim Palace, which is breathtaking.
Oxford is a tourist's delight. It has several high-quality museums, excellent restaurants with reasonably priced fare, great parks and friendly people. With its more than three dozen colleges, most under the University of Oxford umbrella, the town is filled with young, smart people. It has abundant cultural opportunities as well. Overall, Oxford is worth a two-day trip, and Oxfordshire several more, with the Cotswolds, Blenheim Palace and Bletchley Park as additional attractions.
Wasn't there long enough to explore, but it was typical Oxfordshire and very pretty. The River Thames is lovely at this point.
Exactly what I think of when I imagined the English countryside. There is also a lotbof history to glean. All the surrounding villages are nice short drives away. Walingford seemed like the perfect size place to stay. Not too big/busy but not too small. We used it as a base for touring all of Oxfordshire.
Small place, pretty much typical Oxfordshire countryside. Relaxing atmosphere.
Location was perfect. The hotel itself was fantastic, including every member of staff that we met. The food in the hotel/pub restaurant was next level, a really amazing surprise and the quality of ingredients (and the actual meals) was brilliant. If you're looking for a base from which to explore the Cotswolds and/or Oxfordshire, that's peaceful, great value for money and has amazing food, drink and staff, look no further than the Bird in Hand!
The staff are extremely helpful and friendly. The hotel is clean and has everything you need. Complimentary toiletries and tea and coffee . The location is good. Close to main A34 yet quite rural. Restaurant menu is good value and quality. Perfect base to explore the Oxfordshire countryside on foot, bike, car or public transport. Pool is clean and well maintained.
Middle Aston
The house has has extensive grounds, situated in an attractive village. Their website indicates it is primarily a conference/training venue (and not a boutique or ‘country house’ hotel). They provide adequate B&B hotel accommodation at a very competitive price for a location in rural Oxfordshire. Staff were pleasant and very helpful.
Henley on Thames
Small hotel, restaurant, and pub located in a charming village in rural Oxfordshire. Very well run - the staff is well trained and very courteous. The food is excellent (especially the cooked breakfast) and the hotel has a lovely beer garden to enjoy your meal or evening beer.
The rooms are always comfortable at the Oxfordshire, but see below. It's great to be able to use the pool, sauna. steam room and jacuzzi. The staff are always friendly and accommodating. It is a very handy venue for any events in Thame which is why we use it a lot.
Great location for trips around Oxfordshire like Blenheim, Bicester Outlet Village and Oxford. Easy walk to pubs, restaurant's, and the bus stop.. Apartment was nice, clean and comfortable. All good.

With its central location, the Randolph facilitates luxorious visits to Oxford. The helpful, all-smiles staff were always there to ensure that our stay will be comfortable and delightful. Special thanks to concierge Billy and Hannah at the reception, I feel that both took extra care in ensuring that our stay was perfect.
Staff at the front desk especially Gislene. She was very helpful not just to me but two more of my colleagues Top marks.
Very interesting place with super helpful staff, comfy beds, working A/C and bathtubs.
The property was comfortable, clean and in good order. Staff were excellent and very helpful. Easy access to the room and ample parking space.
Lovely place to stay - the whole place was clean and well maintained - lovely room and very comfortable bed
Really big lovely room that was more like a complete flat. I would stay here for an extended vacation! Too cold and rainy to utilize the nice patio, but appreciated the comfy bed and great big kitchen. So quiet, even with lots of cars in the lot. Friendly, helpful staff that were very welcoming. Easy drive to Blenheim Palace, and would make a great base to explore all the Cotswold area. We didn't get enough time there.
Location and a great team Of staff so friendly
We loved our Stay at the Oxford Riverside Glamping with our 2 little kids. We had wonderful weather so it was very nice to stay in a tent and live outside. The facilities where good and at night the Glamping was like a fairytale with all the lights on . The View was stunning and the Glamping is a great location to visit the Cotswolds, Oxford, Blenheim Palace etc. We didn't want to leave.
