Close to public transportation and central area. Main train station was about 2 blocks away. Tons of restaurants and shopping within walking distance. Rooms were modern and kept very clean. Space was fine for our family of four. A/C worked like a champ! All front desk staff were super helpful. I would stay again.

The location is great and the staff is so accommodating. They allowed us to check in several hours early which was super helpful. And on check out they stowed our luggage for the day, gave us towels to use for the beach and even had a shower to use before we got on the train. The garden on the roof was so awesome and we loved being up there. There was a good variety of foods at breakfast to fit all the preferences in our family. I would stay here again!

We were pleasantly surprised by Genova.

We were pleasantly surprised by Genova. Someone had said "its a port town not much to see". This is totally incorrect. Excellent food, easy and safe to wander around. Get local recommendations. Heading up the funicular is a great thing to do, particularly if you enjoy Hiking/walking. There are numerous track above the city, with fabulous views and lovely to be in nature. We used Genova as a base and did day trips to Cinque Terre by train and Portofino bike tour.

La Spezia is a military, commercial and cruise liner port, so not particularly interesting for tourists. However, it is well situated for Le Cinque Terre and other tourist areas. A good stopping off point in your travels.

We visited Sanremo on the way from Spain.

We visited Sanremo on the way from Spain. We knew about this city as its name is really famous to us and so we were a little bit surprised that there weren´t that many turists (which of course was pleasant). The city itself was really nice - small streets old town, the harbour, all the little shops, restaurants and bars. We also appreciated very much the cyklo route that stretches far in both directions alongside the coast from the city (magnificent views of the sea, very nice surroundings). What really amazed us was all the lush flora in the city and its surroundings. We wish we had at least one more day for the visit.

We visited all 5 villages and Monterosso was by far the best place to stay . The tourist office in Monterosso suggested a walk cause it was easier . None of the walks are easy especially in summer heat ! Most are advanced I would say with many steps

Rapallo is a lovely town, with great facilities.

Rapallo is a lovely town, with great facilities. We used it as a hub to travel by public transport to the places we wanted to visit. We went by ferry to Portofino (or bus, if the weather stops the ferries running) and by train to Genoa, Pisa and Cinque Terre.

Perfect place to stay if you want to visit Portofino. Relaxed and laidback. Promenade with lots of restaurants. Great beach. Ferry or bus to other villages. Feels Italian, not as pricey and touristy as Portofino.

Lovely town with many shops, restaurants and plenty to do. The beach and the sea looked very inviting even in winter! Easy to walk around and we found it very easy to visit nearby towns using trains which are reasonably priced and comfortable. Not easy to park near the centre, but there are several car parks for a reasonable hourly rate.

We loved the beach which was directly across the road. We ate at the beach and it was good food. We mostly stayed at the beach most of the day and we appreciated the parking at the hotel. We loved playing in the water and just relaxing at the beach for the day. The hotel was a convenient location and was very clean and the host was very friendly and helpful.

The town has a really nice atmosphere. We enjoyed the free music concerts in the squares in the evening. Lovely restaurants and tasty gelato on the main square. Has good access to the cinque terre without being nearly as busy & hectic. The public beaches however are crowded and as busy as those in cinque terre. Lots to do, we enjoyed a kajak & snorkerling trip and walking directly from Levanto.

It was good to stay at one end of the string of five towns, take the ferry to the other end, and work our way back. Riomaggiore seemed to have more dining options than the other towns except for Monterroso, and wasn't too costly.
