Staff took us to our room and explained everything when we checked in late in the evening. Despite only staying one night they offered/allowed us to leave our luggage and take an umbrella and some beach towels after checkout to the free beach across the road (water was calm, turquoise and clear with rock free spaces). We also utilised their service to book a small group boat tour at the last minute, which was well organised and a comparable price. The breakfast had so many sweet options we didn't know where to start and the restaurant they recommended nearby for dinner the previous night was decent. They called a taxi for us when ready to leave that arrived in no time, and all in all, the location in Giardini Naxos along the flat water front provides easy walking access to all there is to offer without impeding the view. A more relaxed and family friendly alternative to Taormina that has its own unique vibe.

The hotel is situated in a very convenient location near the beach, restaurants, and a large parking area. It’s within walking distance of the port and the main tourist area. There’s a beautiful rooftop bar with a small pool area, and the view from there is absolutely stunning. On Saturday nights, there’s a DJ party at the rooftop bar, which brings energy and a vibrant atmosphere to the whole area. The reception and breakfast staff are very friendly and welcoming. Room service and the in-room facilities were excellent. The corridor has an antique atmosphere, with a seating area furnished with antique pieces, while the rooms feature modern furniture, which I personally preferred. Honestly, I loved my stay!

FAQs about hotels in Sicily

An Island of Intrigue

The largest Italian island, Sicily has long been a place of mystery and intrigue, coveted by civilisations. Its Greek history is most evident at Agrigento whose UNESCO World Heritage-listed Valley of the Temples has amazingly well-preserved Greek temples.

Also important to Greece was Siracusa. Archimedes was born here and there is a theatre and necropolis to explore. However, the most spectacularly located Greek theatre is at Taormina. Set on a hill overlooking the glorious Mediterranean Sea, this theatre points towards Mount Etna smoking away in the distance above Catania. Picturesque Taormina is one of the most popular Sicily resorts and down below there are some wonderful Giardini Naxos hotels on the beach, available on Booking.com.

Another resort boasting some of the best Sicily hotels for families is fabulous Cefalù. Home to a lovely beach, this small town is dramatically located at the foot of a mountain. To the north-west are the Aeolian Islands (also known as the Lipari Islands), volcanic islands with plunging cliffs and secret coves.

Back on the main island, the capital Palermo is a seductive mix of amazing architecture and laidback life. Trapani to the west is known for its salt flats, whereas Messina to the east is where trains drive straight onto the ferry to Reggio Calabria on the Italian mainland.

🌞 Palermo – Sweet Chaos with a Mafia Breeze 🍊🍝

🌞 Palermo – Sweet Chaos with a Mafia Breeze 🍊🍝 Palermo is a glorious mess of sun, Aperol, and ancient buildings whispering secrets. The food? Divine. Cannoli, pasta, gelato – pure magic. The vibe? A little wild, a little mafia-in-the-air, but always full of life. It’s not polished, it’s passionate. You don’t just visit Palermo – you feel it.

    Ortigia is simply wonderful.

Ortigia is simply wonderful. It has plenty of sights, shops, and restaurants, and a very laid-back atmosphere that makes it easy to relax. But the best part is the people: friendly and helpful, even to those whose Italian is basically non-existent. After only a few days on Via Galilei we felt like we were leaving home when it was finally time to depart. The tuktuk's came in handy but usually were unnecessary. We enjoyed everywhere we ate but the Ortigia Fish Bar on the waterfront was a particular delight - family-run, fresh ingredients, etc.

Sadly Taormina has become another charming city to succomb to mass tourism. The main street has mostly shops you will find anwhere in the world (to a few exceptions) and too many restaurants. Shopping is not our priority when visiting cities or villages. You can do that at your local mall or even on line. Regretfully, we can't recommend staying at Taormina. Though we had a good time, it has been overhyped. It's OK for a one day trip...maybe... There are many more other places in Sicily which offer a better cultural experience.

Laid back beautiful village and shoppers' paradise.

Laid back beautiful village and shoppers' paradise. Maybe a bit overcrowded during the day with day trippers from bus tours and cruise ships. Evenings are much quieter and magical with sea side dining and strolls along the alley ways and the obligatory gelato. Plan to make reservations at top restaurants or wait up to an hour if unplanned dinners after 7:30. One dining could be seaside, more expensive but with fresh catch and a great view. (Try Al Porticciolo) Our favorite meal was more local, near the cathedral at Passafiume Cantina. A day walk through the city is a must with extra time at the cathedral. If you visit in a warm month be prepared for crowds but definitely think about some beach time if only a picnic lunch to people watch. It is a 2 hour drive to Villa Romana del Casale to see magnificent mosaics and an incredible ancient palace. Must see! Cefalu is definitely worth a few days before of after the inevitably chaotic but fun visit to Palermo.

We came to San Vito Lo Capo first in 2019 during the exact same period (October/November). The town was much quieter and many restaurants and hotels/bnbs were already closed then. This time in 2024 it's practically a different place. Still lots of activity, many tourists and most hotels and practically all restaurants/bars are still open. Perfect temperatures, still great for swimming at the stunning beach (wind permitting).

Some good restaurants all very close. The property is near the beach but the sand beaches are about 20-25 minute walk. Don't attempt to get a train from the airport to Alcantara train station. It is quite a walk away from the property and there are no taxis. The bus depots are 5 minutes walk from the property. Here you can board all day trip excursion buses and also the bus back to Catania Airport.
