FAQs about hotels in Sicily
An Island of Intrigue
The largest Italian island, Sicily has long been a place of mystery and intrigue, coveted by civilisations. Its Greek history is most evident at Agrigento whose UNESCO World Heritage-listed Valley of the Temples has amazingly well-preserved Greek temples.
Also important to Greece was Siracusa. Archimedes was born here and there is a theatre and necropolis to explore. However, the most spectacularly located Greek theatre is at Taormina. Set on a hill overlooking the glorious Mediterranean Sea, this theatre points towards Mount Etna smoking away in the distance above Catania. Picturesque Taormina is one of the most popular Sicily resorts and down below there are some wonderful Giardini Naxos hotels on the beach, available on Booking.com.
Another resort boasting some of the best Sicily hotels for families is fabulous Cefalù. Home to a lovely beach, this small town is dramatically located at the foot of a mountain. To the north-west are the Aeolian Islands (also known as the Lipari Islands), volcanic islands with plunging cliffs and secret coves.
Back on the main island, the capital Palermo is a seductive mix of amazing architecture and laidback life. Trapani to the west is known for its salt flats, whereas Messina to the east is where trains drive straight onto the ferry to Reggio Calabria on the Italian mainland.

We loved the history, so much to see and so easy to navigate around. We travelled mostly on buses and on one journey we were unsure as to where to get off, the driver was changing over to a colleague but made sure to ask him to see that we got off at the right place which he did with all the locals, so very kind and friendly. the restaurants were fabulous and because of the great location of the hotel they were all in walking distance.Guest review bySimonUnited Kingdom - 8.0

Lots of nice restaurants and compact enough you could walk around the main areas in a day, which also felt safe. Restaurants offerings were fairly similar in both dishes and pricing, with the difference being the quality. The amphitheater is a hidden gem. Buses to other towns are cheap and frequent - tickets must be bought before boarding!Guest review byDannyUnited Kingdom - 10.0

Great place both for the ancient remains, baroque, and the few Norman rests. The main drawback is the lack of information that should accompany all the beautiful monuments. For instance, there are no supports for the autonomous visit to the archeological park, just because the web site that should support it does not work. People in charge are kind, but provide info only on request and if you do not know what to ask you'll never know, for instance, how it is worth to visit the park, or that there are combo tickets for the park and the museum.Guest review byAndreaItaly - 10.0
The Greek-Roman Amphitheatre is just a must go and see.
The Greek-Roman Amphitheatre is just a must go and see. Another must do for a delightful dining experience is to go to I Giardini di Babilonia - set in a beautiful garden, fresh produce and delightful flavours. A walk through the public gardens, gives you delightful views of the coast line. Be prepared for going up and down steps everywhere!Guest review byJenniferAustralia - 10.0
Laid back beautiful village and shoppers' paradise.
Laid back beautiful village and shoppers' paradise. Maybe a bit overcrowded during the day with day trippers from bus tours and cruise ships. Evenings are much quieter and magical with sea side dining and strolls along the alley ways and the obligatory gelato. Plan to make reservations at top restaurants or wait up to an hour if unplanned dinners after 7:30. One dining could be seaside, more expensive but with fresh catch and a great view. (Try Al Porticciolo) Our favorite meal was more local, near the cathedral at Passafiume Cantina. A day walk through the city is a must with extra time at the cathedral. If you visit in a warm month be prepared for crowds but definitely think about some beach time if only a picnic lunch to people watch. It is a 2 hour drive to Villa Romana del Casale to see magnificent mosaics and an incredible ancient palace. Must see! Cefalu is definitely worth a few days before of after the inevitably chaotic but fun visit to Palermo.Guest review byPeterUnited States - 10.0

Trapani is a great base for day trips but also has an amazing historical centre. Depending on route of entry the city seems quite industrial on arrival but it is a working port after all. Once you move further in the charm and character of the city become evident. Note that pretty much all the parking needs to be paid for. In June this was 08:00 to midnight at 1eur / hr. We used the Easypark app which does add a service fee but avoids the need for loads of coins.Guest review byandrewUnited Kingdom - 10.0
The Valley of the Temples complex was very accessible...
The Valley of the Temples complex was very accessible although a very large site (1300 hectares). You can also catch a courtesy mini train from within the park stopping at the individual ruins. Situated high on a ridge with views across to the sea you could spend a full day there or even two days (if you include the museum). Brilliantly preserved and cared for, there is an attractive and well provisioned cafe about half way along with toilets. The interpretive signage is in several languages and you can purchase a map and other guide information at the entry to the site. An astonishing and atmospheric example of ancient Greek civilisation in Sicily.Guest review byAnnieAustralia - 10.0

We came to San Vito Lo Capo first in 2019 during the exact same period (October/November). The town was much quieter and many restaurants and hotels/bnbs were already closed then. This time in 2024 it's practically a different place. Still lots of activity, many tourists and most hotels and practically all restaurants/bars are still open. Perfect temperatures, still great for swimming at the stunning beach (wind permitting).Guest review byStéphanieSwitzerland - 10.0

Giardini Naxos is a charming seaside town on the eastern coast of Sicily, Italy, located just south of the more famous Taormina. It’s known for its beautiful beaches, relaxed atmosphere, and archaeological significance. it has sandy and pebbly beaches with clear blue waters, ideal for swimming, sunbathing, and water sports. On clear days, you’ll have stunning views of Europe’s most active volcano. The seaside promenade is lined with restaurants, cafes, and gelaterias offering fresh seafood and Sicilian specialties. Just a 15-minute drive or short bus ride away, you can easily explore Taormina’s historic sites and dramatic hilltop views.Guest review byStancaUnited Arab Emirates - 10.0
I absolutely loved Favignana and truly wish I had stayed at...
I absolutely loved Favignana and truly wish I had stayed at least four nights to fully appreciate the beauty and charm of this incredible island. It’s the kind of place that invites you to slow down, soak in the atmosphere, and just enjoy life by the sea. Getting around is a breeze—renting a bike is the perfect way to explore. The island is small enough to navigate easily, yet full of diverse landscapes and hidden spots waiting to be discovered. What really took my breath away was the water—crystal clear and painted in the most vibrant shades of blue I’ve ever seen. It’s almost unreal. One thing to note: many of the beaches have sharp rocks that you’ll need to walk over to reach the water. It’s a small price to pay for such pristine conditions, but water shoes might be a good idea! Another highlight was the hike up to Castello di Santa Caterina. The climb is worth every step—on the way up, you're rewarded with panoramic views that stretch across the island and out to the sea. And when you finally reach the castle, even in its weathered state, it's absolutely stunning. There's something incredibly powerful about standing in such a historic place, surrounded by silence and sky. Favignana is so much more than a quick stop on a day trip. If you're planning to visit, give yourself time to breathe it in. You won’t regret it.Guest review byKatherineAustralia
