Set 5 minutes' walk from Trapani harbour, with ferry links to the Aegadian Islands, Hotel San Michele offers spacious air-conditioned rooms and free WiFi throughout.

This was a treasure found last minute! Wonderful hotel with everything you can possibly need and more. Common areas and room were very aesthetic and stylish. Room was comfy with very generous bathroom - a treatment which is very welcomed during travels. Kind stuff who made sure we have everything we need. I was positively surprised that any kind coffee (even with a plant-based milk) from a legit espresso machine was included in breakfast, which is not usually the case, and of course an espresso/cappuccino is incomparable to a drip coffee/coffee from a machine. Overall great value for money, would visit again in case I would find myself in Trapani.

FAQs about hotels in Sicily

An Island of Intrigue

The largest Italian island, Sicily has long been a place of mystery and intrigue, coveted by civilisations. Its Greek history is most evident at Agrigento whose UNESCO World Heritage-listed Valley of the Temples has amazingly well-preserved Greek temples.

Also important to Greece was Siracusa. Archimedes was born here and there is a theatre and necropolis to explore. However, the most spectacularly located Greek theatre is at Taormina. Set on a hill overlooking the glorious Mediterranean Sea, this theatre points towards Mount Etna smoking away in the distance above Catania. Picturesque Taormina is one of the most popular Sicily resorts and down below there are some wonderful Giardini Naxos hotels on the beach, available on Booking.com.

Another resort boasting some of the best Sicily hotels for families is fabulous Cefalù. Home to a lovely beach, this small town is dramatically located at the foot of a mountain. To the north-west are the Aeolian Islands (also known as the Lipari Islands), volcanic islands with plunging cliffs and secret coves.

Back on the main island, the capital Palermo is a seductive mix of amazing architecture and laidback life. Trapani to the west is known for its salt flats, whereas Messina to the east is where trains drive straight onto the ferry to Reggio Calabria on the Italian mainland.

The city is very interesting and has many wonderful historic buildings to visit. The many restaurants and cafes serve excellent food. We really enjoyed the Royal Palace, the St Catharine Monastery and several of the private palazzos. The Cathedral of Monreale, about 30 mins outside the city, is a unique masterpiece and a must to visit!

I would recommend that Catania should not detain 'SY' for long, but rather move 'SY' around the island. For example, we did not make it to Palermo - it was a pity to spend so much time on the road.

The valley of the temples is wonderful but one needs to park at gate 5 . The archaeological museum is the best we have seen . Good restaurants . Sol8 is a really good restaurant with friendly waiters. Santo spirit church is beautiful and you can buy little cakes from the nuns on the side of the church. Atena apartments are very convenient for walking around the city.

Personally, I would have preferred one to two days in Ragusa and then a day in Noto and a day in Modica. In Upper Ragusa, do not miss the Chiesa Ecce Homo! The blue interior is gorgeous, and the priest kindly invited us to view the church from the choir loft. In Ragusa Ibla, the Circolo di Conversazione tour, which also includes a second palazzo and a visit to the workshop of Cinabro Carrettieri, is, at 15 euro, a steal. If you are interested in Italian history and traditional craftsmanship, it is unbeatable. Guides were excellent, fluent in both English and Italian.

Noto is a Baroque masterpiece, with its golden-hued palazzi,...

Noto is a Baroque masterpiece, with its golden-hued palazzi, ornate balconies, and grand staircases that transport you to another era. Walking through Corso Vittorio Emanuele, you're surrounded by imposing churches like San Nicolò Cathedral and elegant piazzas, making every stroll a visual feast. The city's harmony in design and attention to detail are unmatched. But Noto isn't just about stunning architecture — its restaurant scene is equally captivating. Norma Bistrot offers a modern twist on Sicilian cuisine, with refined flavors and impeccable presentation. Ristorante Baglieri delights with traditional dishes elevated to fine dining, all in a charming setting. And for an authentic, hearty meal, Trattoria Fontana d'Ercole serves generous portions of classic Sicilian fare, from fresh pasta to grilled meats — a true local gem. Noto effortlessly combines history, beauty, and exceptional cuisine, making it a must-visit for both culture enthusiasts and food lovers alike.
