We loved staying in an old cellar next to the canal. We were in the best neighborhood, right by the tower and lots of restaurants and shops. Super-cute. The room had a small kitchenette so we could have tea in the morning. Very nice place.

The remote entry instructions and process were very clear. We arrived late, which we communicated to the staff, so the key to open both the gate to the property and our cabin were left for us in a very convenient location. The cabin was immaculate. The kitchen had everything needed to prepare meals. The beds were very comfortable. We were visiting sites in Amsterdam, and the location was convenient to get to a park-and-ride, from which we took the train into the city. We would definitely stay here again.

I was glad to go back to this hotel with my husband. Unfortunately, I didn't find a “Romantic suite” room on Booking, which I booked 5 years ago for our anniversary. But nevertheless, we liked the room I chose in advance. A huge advantage is that the room has a bathroom and it fills up very quickly. We were happy with the SPA, but the additional costs for bathrobes, slippers and jacuzzi were not indicated in advance, at least I didn't find information about it. A delicious restaurant! A quite large selection for breakfast, lunch and dinner. Despite of some small disadvantages, we had a great time in Mitland hotel! My 9th month of pregnancy is coming to an end, so I was glad to take a break from all the rush and also my husband was joyfull by given a surprise, since he didn't know that we were going to Mitland hotel. Next time the three of us will come ❤️

We were looking for small town, countryside, quiet experience. This place is amazing. We were greeted by the friendliest staff. They were ALL so helpful. Ghislaine, one of the property hosts welcomed us and showed us around and gave great suggestions. She made us feel like we knew her forever. We can’t wait to go back. The experience and ambience at Voltaire restaurant is unforgettable. It was amazing. Every bit worth it. We loved it.

We had a wonderful stay at this hotel. The room was very spacious, clean, and comfortable, and the beds were amazing — we slept really well. The terrace and bar area were also a great place to relax and enjoy the atmosphere. Breakfast was excellent, with a very good selection and high quality food. Overall, a very pleasant experience and we would happily stay here again.

Absolutely picturesque town.

Absolutely picturesque town. So many options for delicious food and shopping. Gorgeous historic gardens tucked away near the Cathedral. Not too crowded for a summer weekend but always lively. Several options to explore the waterways (kayak, paddle boat, guided boat tour). Favourite Netherlands location I have thus far experienced.

Amersfoort is one of the most underrated places to visit in...

Amersfoort is one of the most underrated places to visit in the Netherlands, but I am biased as I used to live there. It has a well-preserved city centre with a very high proportion of old architecture. There is the famous Koppelpoort city gate, which is the most famous landmark. Make sure that you walk the length of Muurhuizen street, which takes in the inside houses of the old city wall. There is a very nice park outside of the city walls that is worth a visit, and it takes you past some of the other old defence towers of the walls. The artist Piet Mondrian had his home there and you can visit the museum on Kortegracht, a brief stroll away from the central area of Amersfoort, and was formerly a part of the canal landscape. You can take trips on tourist boats around the city canals and there are any number of fine eateries in the city. The markt has a fine church with bells that chime the hours. With two nice gelato stores, you can eat good ice cream while enjoying the historic centre on summer evenings. Time spent in Amersfoort is never wasted time.

Cosy and beautiful lobby.

Cosy and beautiful lobby. Good size room but missing love and tenderness (no decoration). Great that we could park outfront. The staff didn't ask us to settle the bill upon check-in (booked online with credit card and commitment to pay), but then called at night that we urgently needed to settle it. That was weird. I was out working and my family was in the room. In the morning, my daughter and I went to the pool while my wife checked out and planned to join us. She asked at reception how she could enter the spa and pool area without her room key and was told she could not. As a result, she was left waiting outside and denied access to facilities we had fully paid for. When she didn’t appear, my daughter and I had to leave the pool, get dressed, and look for her, only to find her waiting in the lobby. Another staff member later confirmed she should have been allowed to enter. By then the moment was lost, and we all left disappointed. I find this unacceptable and request appropriate compensation, as our booking included full use of the wellness area until departure.

Driebergen offers a wonderful blend of nature activities and history. We enjoyed the historic and preserved facade of Kerkplein - a collection of circularly placed brick houses framing an old church building. Look for the historical summary of the town on the floor before each building. We loved strolling the beautiful colorful gardens of Kraaybeekerhof, marveled at their community model and the different types of bees and their variety homes. In mid-August the Heath Garden is in bloom. We weaved through various paths in the woods enjoying the diversity of plants and trees. The town center offers different kinds of foods - Dutch fair, Continental European but also Surinamese Dutch, Indian, Green cuisine and for several top and organic supermarkets. Landgoed De Horst where we stayed was an oasis of green and tranquility nestled amid stately trees and woodland.

We came here for an event, but could have emigrated.

We came here for an event, but could have emigrated. A fairly small town of 50,000 or so, but with lots of lovely facilities. From shops to bars, with restaurants aplenty. As it seems is typical in the Netherlands, a really well-kept town with small parks and plenty of green space. Its easy to get around by bike. No litter and every facility is treated well. We loved: Brouwerij Brasser - a very small brewery and bar. Steakhouse Kepass - a small place for BBQ ribs. Limebikes for travel. Tiny parks everywhere with no dogpoo, graffiti etc. Can fill you water bottle at many public fountains. Its flat, so easy walking. Many small bakeries. The cycling is so safe you will never look at a UK city again. We were taken surprise by: Opening times are later for many things on a weekend. Next time we will: Plan ahead as we missed lots of cooll stuff like films in the woods and folk dancing as this was a whirlwind stop for a planned event.

Abcoude is a quaint place.

Abcoude is a quaint place. I last visited in 2019 and it has changed some, not as clean and many shops closed since. However still offers that small village charm on the canals with a few eateries to enjoy while watching the world go by slowly. Lovely place to visit for half a day.

We loved Utrecht.

We loved Utrecht. It had all the charm of Amsterdam without all of the chaos. Typically we would spend a day in Amsterdam and the next day in Utrecht. We enjoyed our days in Utrecht a bid more. Utrecht is only about 35 minutes from Amsterdam the trains are frequent without having to change. Utrecht is full of charming places to dine or grab a cold beverage. The canal system is not quite as extensive but our hour long tour was perfect.

The city is famous for medieval Koppelpoort gate and Kamperbinnenpoort, both beautiful just make sure to visit the adjacent Local history Museum Flehite, it is in 3 medieval houses, with themed art & artifacts. Take the time to walk and explore this charming and very under rated city. The city is easily cycled but walking it ensures you do not miss the best bits. Lots of small streets and original architecture, and a nice town centre of shops, a beautiful hof, and nice market two days a week below the toren. I urge you to walk the entire length of Muurhuizen (Houses within the city wall), a lovely evening walk at any time of the year. Also, walk the parks on the other side of the old city wall, especially in autumn. There are some nice cafes/restaurants, for Koffie and gebak. I recommend Koffie Corazon on de Krommestraat, they bake all of their own goods and it's a nice atmosphere. De Krommestraat and De Kamp streets offer a more artisanal and boutique experience of shopping, very worthwhile. For summer afternoons and evenings, there are two very good gelato stores on Langestraat. Langestraat is the pedestrian shopping street with lots of stores, both small and large. While walking Langestraat you will pass the old fish market at the top of Kortegracht. Thirty meters down this tree lined canal street is the former home, now museum of the artists Piet Modriaan. While his name might not mean anything to you I can assure you that you will have seen reflections of his work all over the world. Twentyfive years ago I lived in Amersfoort in a tiny, cold little apartment but the many charms of this little city pulls me back any time I pass near it's gravity well. Allow it to pull you in too, you will not regret it.
