We loved absolutely everything about this gem of a property: the location in a stunning natural environment, the adorable staff, the unique history and decor of the hotel full of collectible and heirloom furniture and, of course the wonderful dinner. Food certainly was a highlight as this is generally where Norway fails to impress us. We were served a fresh, creative, and delicious dinner in the beautiful dining room overlooking the fjell. The chef even adjusted the menu for the vegetarians among us, creating genuine new dishes for us. Wow! Again, that was unexpected as eating veg in Norway is often a challenge. Everything felt authentic and personal in this independently-run property. Dinner starts with a presentation of the history of the place by the owner, their struggles during Covid and how they overcame them. Charmingly, this introduction included the reading of a poem (sadly we don’t understand Norwegian so had to rely on the translation of the presentation afterwards). Every effort is made to be sustainable : There’s a vegetable garden, the delicious bread is baked on the premisses (we took a box of the amazing Flatbrød with us) and the lovely shop sells some local cheese, honey and other specialties including, this being Norway, sweets :) We are already dreaming of a next stay to the Tuddal Høyfjellshotel to experience more of its magic and of the stunning nature around it as our stay this time was way too short. Note to the owners: stay as you are, you are a genuine gem and the world needs more places like yours. Thank you for everything!

The hotel was located right outside town so it was easy to get to town and not be in the middle of the city. I loved the fact it was close to beautiful trails so you could go for a walk. It was close to all the facilities from the pools, skate rink and rope climbing areas. Great property! Also I really enjoyed the fact that we received both breakfast and dinner, very good food.

The room was lovely, warm and really clean. The breakfast was delicious, especially the crispy bacon and eggs! The reception was lovely but as it was quiet season it was only open to allow us to check in. The location is wonderful, right on the water and close to bars and restaurants.

Everything. Cozy room feel, room view, comfortable bed, great shower, closet space and clean. The hotel was beautifully decorated, the lounge warm and comfortable with a great view. It snowed lightly that night and morning which was a pleasant surprise. The breakfast buffet was a delicious variety of food. The staff was warm and welcoming.

It’s a really good hotel just 1 min walking from a very good ski resort with a great view on Gausta, with wonderful food, facilities, spa, pool and everything! Very kid friendly too. A great cross country network is there as well right outside the hotel. So bring both alpine, cross country and spa stuff.

Originally built in 1894, Dalen Hotel is located close to the peaceful shores of the Telemark Canal and Lake Bandak. It offers free WiFi internet and free private parking.
