Madeira isn't your typical holiday break.
Madeira isn't your typical holiday break. There's no Beaches but it does have fantastic scenery. Personally I feel its a good weekend city break and probably worthwhile for that. So if you are looking for a relaxing holiday then I'd say look elsewhere. But if you are adventurous type, like hard walks, Culture and a bit of fun on toboggans, island tours then its a must.Guest review byMartinUnited Kingdom - 10.0

Nice small village nearby 2 beaches with all the necessary shops (supermarkets) and several restaurants. Away from the buzzling city. 😄 But by car nearby some touristic hotspots like Santa Cruz, Funchal, Cristo Rei, Santana houses etc.Guest review byRitaNetherlands - 8.0

All of Madeira island is mountainous therefore it would be advisable to rent a car on the island to get around. There was a very good bakery and cafe in the village and a small grocery for essentials. The Pingo Doce & Contintente are a short drive up the mountain for anything else you would need.Guest review byCarolPortugal - 8.0

Very sweet, clean village with friendly people (but not in-your-face). Lots of bars and restaurants, reasonably priced. Lovely wine, good food and some nice boutiques too. Easy to get to Funchal on buses and there are also plenty of taxis. Its minutes from the airport and planes fly very low overhead but it is spectacular to see without being too noisy. Loved it.Guest review bySueUnited Kingdom - 10.0
Santana is a perfect location to explore the north coast.
Santana is a perfect location to explore the north coast. Not far away from airport and capital, but still on the north. Two hiking starting points are nearby: Queimadas and Achada do Teixeira. Santana also has an only large supermarket on the whole north coast, so you can buy delicious food right there. No such option in Porto Moniz or Seixal.Guest review bySergeyNorway - 10.0
Great local place.
Great local place. I am very glad I have not spend the time in Funchal. From here I could explore the whole island and had my peace in the evening but with vibrant Sunday as all the locals come to town for their coffee and markets.Guest review byPavolSlovakia - 10.0
This location is simply out-of-this-world beautiful.
This location is simply out-of-this-world beautiful. I did a lot of driving around Madeira, 700km in a week, so I saw a lot of places. Sao Vicente is lush, green, mountainous and breathtaking. I'm definitely glad we stayed here.Guest review byJodieUnited Kingdom
