The area is beautiful; however, the tragedy of the loss of the Old Town Lahaina casts a pall over the area. If you have memories of before the fire, it is very, very sad to see the remains of buildings and know that over 100 people lost their lives. The sentiment of Lahaina Strong is wonderful and uplifting but as you speak with residents, the current, somber message is that we will never regain what has been lost and there is no definitive plan or timeline for rebuilding. You are asked to not take photos and to respect the area. There is a bypass road that has been built.Guest review byGeorgeUnited States - Review score

Facility itself was really great but… there were few homeless people in neighborhood and they seem to like that area. Other than that everything was good! Living room and bedroom has air conditioning, lots of kitchen stuff like coffee machine and rice cooker. Beach was very close and and love that place supplied beach chairs so we can watch sunset within 30sec walk. We saw few turtles on that beach as well.Guest review byRamintaCanada - Review score

Our Lauloa Condo is on Hauoli Street and it's actually in Ma'alaea, a suburb of Wailuku, and about 7 miles from downtown. Downtown Wailuku is pretty-much "local territory" as it does not have the sunny side and beaches of either Kihei or Lahaina OR Ma'alaea. See our review of Lauloa 303 Condo for more on why we choose Ma'alaea whenever we can OR nearby Kihei - both are more affordable than Wailea or Makena (where the 5**** resorts are) and closer to the rest of Maui than Kana'apali up from Lahaina. In Wailuku proper, do not miss the Kaahumanu Church, Baldwin Museum on Hawaii's colorful colonial history OR a visit to Io Needle Monument park - an historic sacred native Hawaiian site with gorgeous scenery, waterfalls, lush tropical greenery plus several nature trails to enjoy.Guest review byArizona_SeniorUnited States - Review score

The hotel is very nice, it has a central pool overlooking the sea. The rooms are spacious and clean, offering coffee, tea, beach towels, personal care products (soap, shampoo, conditioner, body lotion). There is a restaurant right next to it, serving good local dishes, where you get 10% off your bill as hotel guests. There is a parking lot in front of the hotel entrance, for $10/day (+taxes). The staff is very nice and keen to accommodate your requests. We were there on our honeymoon and they set up the room very nicely. The location is very close to the airport, yet is a very curated hotel. Overall a bit expensive, but aligned to the high prices of Maui.Guest review byAlessandraItaly - Review score

This hotel has a nice location and is surrounded by nice restaurants and stores in the village. It is a nice hotel with a small pool but no access to the beach. The room was good; nothing special or unique was there. The bathroom was dated. All rooms have a very small side ocean view and an extensive view of the back roof of the common facilities and Congress Center buildings. So, the view from the balconies is not pleasant. We did not have a food plan, but we purchased some food at the pool. We found it too expensive for the quality of the food served. We had a special discount being part of the conference, but even then, I found the room too expensive for the quality of the hotel, pool and beach,Guest review byAnaCanada - Review score
It's a small town.
It's a small town. We stayed one night in Hana so that we could complete the sites along the Road to Hana without pressure of time. Smart move. We got to see and enjoy everything we wanted on the way to Hana, and several places beyond Hana. It would not have been possible without staying a night in Hana. We found Hana to be pleasant community.Guest review byDouglasUnited States - Review score

Beautiful beach town that provides a very pleasant even if touristy insight to Maui living though not truly local. The dining options are great as well as shops but it's more-so made up of Californians selling art than it is of Maui born & bred locals. Neither a positive nor a negative, Paia is a perfect beach town to switch off in but if you're looking for a true Maui experience it may not be the most adventurous though it is beautiful, friendly, vibrant and can be incredible for beach wildlife spotting.Guest review byDanielUnited Kingdom - Review score

Haiku was quiet, peaceful, much more local feel; The total opposite feel of Kaanapali, which is much busier and more touristy. [We stayed in both areas during our trip.] Near Haiku there are local thrift shops, weekly markets (Swap Meet), and you are surrounded by nature. The weather was fine too. Not too rainy (as was forewarned on multiple sites).Guest review byDavidUnited States
