What a stunningly beautiful hotel.

1. We booked for use of the spa, swimming pool and gym and when we rang a few days before we left we were told the spa, gym and pool were closed for re-development - but there was no reference to this on the Booking.com site when we booked and how we could have been charged the full amount - £250 a night - with none of these facilities is unbelievable. The hotel told us we could cancel but given we had already paid in advance vai Booking.com, we could not get a refund. Just great. 2. We wanted to do a one hour bike ride before breakfast and were first asked to pay the full £25 per day cost - I complained and, after a phone call, they said £10. After I complained again in that we had no facilities available and will spend over £700 for two nights with food, they conceded but still charged us £5. 3. I wanted a newspaper in the mornings and it was if they had never thought about newspapers for customers - despite paying such a huge some of money for the stay. They said one of the staff who arrived at 10.30 the next day would see if he could get one on his way to work!! Given we needed to leave each day straight after breakfast. I had to get out of bed at 8am each morning, drive my car for 20-25 minutes and buy my own!! Crazy.

Food and room were excellent and so were staff but a couple of minor issues stopped it from being an 'allround' excellent experience

The only negatives would be that the pillows were quite hard and the room was incredibly warm with little options to counteract the warmth other than to open the windows , which were limited , I imagine for safety reasons Disappointed breakfast wasn’t included in the price I paid for the room We also dined in the Elements restaurant, which was lovely but sadly only one veggie option on the menu .. maybe the menu could be revised to cater for vegetarians ? ..

Incredible period style property located nicely outside of York in the village of Aldwark. Beautifully set within an estate with golf course, surrounded by countryside .. the perfect retreat The ornate features and grand corridors made it feel very luxurious . The double delux room we stayed in was fantastic . It was spacious , very grand and ideal for our stay .

Spa was still under construction and not enough info given between the difference in double room bookings. I’d have paid the extra for the supreme double if I’d have known.

The property is stunning and well maintained , rooms were excellent. The decoration throughout the whole hotel are perfect. Staff was lovely, polite and even gave us a private tour.

I didn't like having to go home from the hotel as it was superb place local to york a short drive.

I loved the interesting decoration of the hotel space , lovely winidng stairwell , and the beautiful archway with flowers of elements bar , the rooms were beautiful with lovely panelling woodern doors and funky stylish mirrors , the theme of churchill was superb , I shook churchills hand at the doorway near reception what a fabulous hotel , staff were lovely and informative very helpful , I loved the shards of food with olives I had for my starter was amazing the taste of the olives each meal was cooked great loved the chips we had and fish perfectly cooked food for our meal.

There is nothing to dislike

We visited over the weekend to celebrate our wedding anniversary, on arrival the staff wished us happy anniversary and on entering our room, a anniversary card and chocolates awaited. This was a lovely thought. The room were spotless, lovely view of the gardens, staff were very professional in their roles. Food were outstanding. Breakfast were also very good, well worth the money. I would highly recommend and we will certainly return

Coffee bags in the room.

The hotel was lovely, the rooms were clean and spacious. The food in the bunkers bar and the elements restaurant tasted delicious. The grounds are very pretty. Great for a night away and you can watch the golfers from the bar.

There was building work going on to extend the hotel but it was well managed and not intrusive.

Very friendly and helpful staff who were happy to chat and provide information. Location was very picturesque and the premises and grounds well kept. The room was well appointed and comfortable and the food excellent.

The hot tub really needed to have been cleaned out. The water was a little green and had lots of foam from previous use.

Our room was lacking a chair which I missed for putting clothes on as well as sitting on ! There was a round velour covered stool for use at the work space. On a personal level I felt the decor was far too dark throughout the room/bathroom.

Breakfast was delicious and it was lovely to be served for the tea and coffee and cooked items instead of self serve.

Everyone was very helpful, particularly the barman in Bunkers. We had a problem with a damaged suitcase (Singapore Airline issue). The barman not only helped bring the broken wheeled suitcase in, but disposed of it after we bought a replacement.

The hotel is lovely and just what we were looking for that weekend - tranquility. The place is spotless , it’s really clean and tidy. The stuff is very friendly and helpful. The beds were comfortable. We stayed in the main building in a classic room with a garden view. The only downside was the food in the main restaurant (The Elements). Breakfast choice and set up wasn’t the best and quite expensive. Dinner at the Elements was also somewhat disappointing. Our favourite place was the bar and its outside area. The atmosphere there was amazing. Overall I’d still definitely come back to this place and would recommend it. It’s beautiful.
