Each review score is between 1-10. To get the overall score that you see, we add up all the review scores we’ve received and divide that total by the number of review scores we’ve received. We use a weighted review system which means that the more recent the review, the bigger the impact on the total review score calculation. In addition, guests can give separate ‘subscores’ in crucial areas, such as location, cleanliness, staff, comfort, facilities, value for money and free Wi-Fi. Note that guests submit their subscores and their overall scores independently, so there’s no direct link between them.
You can review an Accommodation that you booked through our Platform if you stayed there or if you arrived at the property but didn’t actually stay there. To edit a review you’ve already submitted, please contact our Customer Service team.
We have people and automated systems that specialise in detecting fake reviews submitted to our Platform. If we find any, we delete them and, if necessary, take action against whoever is responsible.
Anyone else who spots something suspicious can always report it to our Customer Service team, so our Fraud team can investigate.
Ideally, we would publish every review we receive, whether positive or negative. However, we won’t display any review that includes or refers to (among other things):
To make sure reviews are relevant, we may only accept reviews that are submitted within 3 months of checking out, and we may stop showing reviews once they’re 36 months old – or if the Accommodation has a change of ownership.
An Accommodation may choose to reply to a review.
When you see multiple reviews, the most recent ones will be at the top, subject to a few other factors (what language a review is in, whether it’s just a rating or contains comments as well, etc.). If you like, you can sort and/or filter them (by time of year, review score, etc.).
We sometimes show external review scores from other well-known travel websites. We make it clear when we’ve done this.
These guidelines and standards aim to keep the content on Booking.com relevant and family-friendly without limiting expression of strong opinions. They are also applicable regardless of the sentiment of the comment.
Contributions should be travel related. The most helpful contributions are detailed and help others make better decisions. Please don’t include personal, political, ethical, or religious commentary. Promotional content will be removed and issues concerning Booking.com’s services should be routed to our Customer Service or Accommodation Service teams.
Contributions should be appropriate for a global audience. Please avoid using profanity or attempts to approximate profanity with creative spelling, in any language. Comments and media that include 'hate speech', discriminatory remarks, threats, sexually explicit remarks, violence, and the promotion of illegal activity are not permitted.
All content should be genuine and unique to the guest. Reviews are most valuable when they are original and unbiased. Your contribution should be yours. Booking.com property partners should not post on behalf of guests or offer incentives in exchange for reviews. Attempts to bring down the rating of a competitor by submitting a negative review will not be tolerated.
Respect the privacy of others. Booking.com will make an effort to obscure email addresses, telephone numbers, website addresses, social media accounts, and similar details.
The opinions expressed in contributions are those of Booking.com customers and properties and not of Booking.com. Booking.com does not accept responsibility or liability for any reviews or responses. Booking.com is a distributor (without any obligation to verify) and not a publisher of these comments and responses.
By default, reviews are sorted based on the date of the review and on additional criteria to display the most relevant reviews, including but not limited to: your language, reviews with text, and non-anonymous reviews. Additional sorting options may be available (by type of traveller, by score, etc.).

United KingdomHaving someone at hand and the possibility of a serve yourself continental breakfast would have been greatly appreciated but that no doubt would have increased the cost of staying at the guesthouse.
There was no one available after a certain time. I had informed the guesthouse of the time of my flight’s arrival but that made no difference. The keybox was problematic as it was too high for me. A kind lady occupant of room 1 was the only ‘permanent’ person who helped me and answered any questions. Room 11 third floor was clean with a tiny shower room. A great view over that part of St Helier and not far on foot from the centre. The bed was good and enough towels were available. By the time I left (4nights) my bin was overflowing as no one came to check the room and empty it during my stay. Had trouble making the tv work which didn’t make a huge difference as I had my laptop. Hotel prices on Jersey are high Alister guesthouse was one of the cheapest I found on the web. The weather made my first visit wonderful.

United KingdomRoom number 8 did not have a working shower, which couldn’t be fixed. My friends had to use my shower.
Property was in a good location, easy to find and gain access and the beds were comfortable.

United KingdomThey should clean the kettle so guests can make coffee or tea. The kettle in my room was very dirty. I had to go out and get a descaler to clean it. Now they have a clean kettle.
I really appreciated the quietness of the building. A very comfortable bed to rest in. Close to Center.

United KingdomNot really a dislike: would have been helpful to have a way to garage bicycles. But the streets are safe so it was not an issue.
Quiet guest house in St. Helier with no on site staff. But owner is a quick phone call/text away. It is 10 - 15 minutes walk from the sea front and all the restaurants and museums there. We only needed accommodation so this was perfect placement. We also decided to extend the stay by 2 days and the owner was very accommodating.

United KingdomShower wouldn't run hot, kettle and telly weren't working. There was no reception and I never seen any staff on property only on check in and out. It was just a last minute thing for me so I wasn't expecting anything spectacular

United KingdomDid not see any staff, or owners. Had to ring the caretaker to find out how to get into the property, Had to ask for more supplies to make hot drinks (via a note left by my door) as there was no-one to ask. Room did not get serviced at all while I was there.

United Kingdomno cooked breakfast
I was sceptical in booking as most of the other reviews were so terrible. But I can honestly say, in my case, they were unfounded. The room had a nice double bed, super clean bathroom, tea coffee and the wifi was exceptional, obviously the password needs to be changed to Tottenham rather than Liverpool lol. There was an easy to operate key box so self entry wasnt a problem. The only thing which some families would dislike is that there is no cooked breakfast but there are lots of small cafes nearby which do so its not really a huge issue. The room I stayed in was Number 3 and I will be staying again. Thank you

United KingdomNoisy fellow guests.
Unfortunately there was some noisy guests in other rooms who kept me awake half the night. I was offered a reduction in the amount I paid for the room and the noisy guests left the next day, but sadly I had already booked somewhere else so I didn’t really give the guest house a fair trial. Apart from that everything else seemed fine, the location was good (fairly central), the room was clean and well presented, the bed was comfortable and I loved the fact there was free tea and coffee, communication with the management was good, and the price reasonable.

CanadaIt was not a guest house at all but a NO GUEST HOUSE - GHOST house… I did not purchase a SIM card for a 2 day stay in Jersey so I did not want to use my phone and incur roaming charges.. this all self-service place did not offer any alternative. So glad a client was at the door when I checked in. He too was trying desperately to contact the owner…and FINALLY succeeded…he was not impressed at all… otherwise I would have been stuck at the door with no option…we also met 2 Chinese girls inside who couldn’t get through to the owner and did not know which bedroom was theirs…together we figured out a solution without of course, once again, the assistance of the owner…do I need to add the toilet was broken with no indication it was broken…at least the bed was comfortable. This terrible experience was definitely a one-off…I guess we are no longer allowed to travel without a phone

United KingdomAll stated above
This accommodation should not be listed on any site. Very poor facilities and old tired decor. The light fittings above were falling from rose to ceiling, the wires were exposed, the wiring and wall main sockets were broken and wires exposed. The bathroom toilet was next to at right angles to sink and could not access unless limbo trained! Excessive noise and bad language during the one night we stayed out off the seven days paid for! We felt threatened and very uneasy. We had to look for a better solution and booked into another property. The accommodation website is false and not a true account as its 10 years old from two previous owners. It does not have two high class restaurants and does not offer breakfast. The certificates in the premises are not compliant with the owner and over 10 years old. The owner is not present in the accommodation and the free WiFi shows the code of Liverpool. Draw your own conclusions there!! To summarise our very short expensive stay: we have not been offered any refund and this accommodation should not be listed anywhere as is clearly a local doss hole. Fit for vagrants only.
