How guest reviews work
Each review score is between 1-10. To get the overall score that you see, we add up all the review scores we’ve received and divide that total by the number of review scores we’ve received. We use a weighted review system which means that the more recent the review, the bigger the impact on the total review score calculation. In addition, guests can give separate ‘subscores’ in crucial areas, such as location, cleanliness, staff, comfort, facilities, value for money and free Wi-Fi. Note that guests submit their subscores and their overall scores independently, so there’s no direct link between them.
You can review an Accommodation that you booked through our Platform if you stayed there or if you arrived at the property but didn’t actually stay there. To edit a review you’ve already submitted, please contact our Customer Service team.
We have people and automated systems that specialise in detecting fake reviews submitted to our Platform. If we find any, we delete them and, if necessary, take action against whoever is responsible.
Anyone else who spots something suspicious can always report it to our Customer Service team, so our Fraud team can investigate.
Ideally, we would publish every review we receive, whether positive or negative. However, we won’t display any review that includes or refers to (among other things):
- Politically sensitive comments
- Promotional content
- Illegal activities
- Personal or sensitive information (e.g. emails, phone numbers or credit card info)
- Swear words, sexual references, hate speech, discriminatory remarks, threats, or references to violence
- Spam and fake content
- Animal cruelty
- Impersonation (e.g. if the writer is claiming to be someone else)
- Any violation of our review guidelines.
To make sure reviews are relevant, we may only accept reviews that are submitted within 3 months of checking out, and we may stop showing reviews once they’re 36 months old – or if the Accommodation has a change of ownership.
An Accommodation may choose to reply to a review.
When you see multiple reviews, the most recent ones will be at the top, subject to a few other factors (what language a review is in, whether it’s just a rating or contains comments as well, etc.). If you like, you can sort and/or filter them (by time of year, review score, etc.).
We sometimes show external review scores from other well-known travel websites. We make it clear when we’ve done this.

Room was too hot at night. In the morning woken up with the noise of bottles. . A little on the expensive side but nice.
Central location, comfortable bed, nice fish and chips and good breakfast. They filled our water bottles for our walk. Tea and coffee in our room

The room was clean and presentable with a comfy bed. The hotel is situated in the centre of Melrose allowing easy shopping and walking opportunities. Breakfast was very good indeed setting us up for our journey North.

My room (single) was functional. Comfortable bed. Modern shower room. No view to write home about as my bedroom overlooked bins and the carpark at the rear of the hotel. As I was out for most of the day this was not a problem.
Generous selection of food at breakfast. Well presented and of good quality. All staff ( reception, waiting and room service) were attentive, courteous and provided good service.

The breakfast was lovely with a great choice of options. One minor problem was that the fried eggs were quite undercooked on the top and we had to send them back. However this was dealt with straight away without any fuss - just mentioning it as you may want to ask for your eggs to be turned if don't like them like this.
We were made to feel very welcome by the staff. The room was lovely, very comfortable with lots of hot water for showers and complimentary toiletries. We had a lovely evening meal in the hotel as well. Check in and out was smooth without any delays and the hotel is in a fantastic position in Melrose.

Excellent stay! Greeted with a friendly welcome at check-in. Our room (Room 21) was well furnished and equipped with everything we needed, was immaculately clean, and the shower was wonderfully hot! Breakfast was outstanding, especially for a Vegetarian. Thank you!

A very comfortable, classic country town hotel, well placed for all that Melrose has to offer. Good car park availability. Lovely attentive staff, great menu of well presented and cooked food. Nice real ales in the bar too! Fan in toilet was very loud and shower water pressure was a tad low.

Everything was tremendous. We’ve stayed here a couple of times before and already knew it’s was comfortable and the food excellent but this visit exceeded even our high expectations. We had a wonderful large and comfy hills that overlooked the Eildon Hills. The bed was huge and super comfortable. The food was fantastic and all the staff super friendly and very helpful. Our little dog was welcomed and fussed by everyone. All in all it could not have been more enjoyable. Thank you for a great trip.

Hand towel had a tiny blood spot on it, reception provided a new one but could've been a little more apologetic.
Nice clean hotel, room was small but very comfortable and the bedding etc. was perfect. Nice thick curtains so very dark and very quiet. Great sleep. I skipped breakfast but my friends ate and said it was excellent. Beer garden is a bonus and despite the cold weather, we managed to enjoy the sun out there.

Dinner and breakfast were excellent. Staff were friendly and efficient. The room was perhaps disappointing for the money but nothing is cheap these days. Particularly disliked the view of the greasy kitchen outlet / chimney very close to the room’s window..

Water didn’t properly flow out off wash hand basin and leak from around the shower room - 354. Reported it to Reception, although not sure receptionist took it seriously.

A comfortable traditional hotel right on the main square. Our room was nicely decorated and well equipped. We had a very nice evening meal in the bar / bistro.
