Each review score is between 1-10. To get the overall score that you see, we add up all the review scores we’ve received and divide that total by the number of review scores we’ve received. We use a weighted review system which means that the more recent the review, the bigger the impact on the total review score calculation. In addition, guests can give separate ‘subscores’ in crucial areas, such as location, cleanliness, staff, comfort, facilities, value for money and free Wi-Fi. Note that guests submit their subscores and their overall scores independently, so there’s no direct link between them.
You can review an Accommodation that you booked through our Platform if you stayed there or if you arrived at the property but didn’t actually stay there. To edit a review you’ve already submitted, please contact our Customer Service team.
We have people and automated systems that specialise in detecting fake reviews submitted to our Platform. If we find any, we delete them and, if necessary, take action against whoever is responsible.
Anyone else who spots something suspicious can always report it to our Customer Service team, so our Fraud team can investigate.
Ideally, we would publish every review we receive, whether positive or negative. However, we won’t display any review that includes or refers to (among other things):
To make sure reviews are relevant, we may only accept reviews that are submitted within 3 months of checking out, and we may stop showing reviews once they’re 36 months old – or if the Accommodation has a change of ownership.
An Accommodation may choose to reply to a review.
When you see multiple reviews, the most recent ones will be at the top, subject to a few other factors (what language a review is in, whether it’s just a rating or contains comments as well, etc.). If you like, you can sort and/or filter them (by time of year, review score, etc.).
We sometimes show external review scores from other well-known travel websites. We make it clear when we’ve done this.
These guidelines and standards aim to keep the content on Booking.com relevant and family-friendly without limiting expression of strong opinions. They are also applicable regardless of the sentiment of the comment.
Contributions should be travel related. The most helpful contributions are detailed and help others make better decisions. Please don’t include personal, political, ethical, or religious commentary. Promotional content will be removed and issues concerning Booking.com’s services should be routed to our Customer Service or Accommodation Service teams.
Contributions should be appropriate for a global audience. Please avoid using profanity or attempts to approximate profanity with creative spelling, in any language. Comments and media that include 'hate speech', discriminatory remarks, threats, sexually explicit remarks, violence, and the promotion of illegal activity are not permitted.
All content should be genuine and unique to the guest. Reviews are most valuable when they are original and unbiased. Your contribution should be yours. Booking.com property partners should not post on behalf of guests or offer incentives in exchange for reviews. Attempts to bring down the rating of a competitor by submitting a negative review will not be tolerated.
Respect the privacy of others. Booking.com will make an effort to obscure email addresses, telephone numbers, website addresses, social media accounts, and similar details.
The opinions expressed in contributions are those of Booking.com customers and properties and not of Booking.com. Booking.com does not accept responsibility or liability for any reviews or responses. Booking.com is a distributor (without any obligation to verify) and not a publisher of these comments and responses.
By default, reviews are sorted based on the date of the review and on additional criteria to display the most relevant reviews, including but not limited to: your language, reviews with text, and non-anonymous reviews. Additional sorting options may be available (by type of traveller, by score, etc.).

United KingdomNothing to complain and I usually have something to report, really well maintained place to stay
Excellent location, walking distance to marina, quick check in, nice breakfast and helpful staff. The room and bathroom very clean with fresh towels, coffee station with some biscuits, bar with all sorts of alcohol with reasonable prices. Plenty car park spaces so no problem to park even large vehicle (there was bus event and one of historic buses parked over night too and there was still space for more to come). Lovely garden with some mature trees.Wifii covering all rooms and garden.

United KingdomA bit dated in decor and breakfast tomatoes. I cannot remember when I last saw tinned tomatoes on a breakfast at any hotel I have stayed at, possibly not this century, which admittedly fits the ambience.
Nice staff loads of parking, good size room and bed. Nice and clean. Easy walk to the harbour, breakfast pretty good and none of that American hash brown rubbish, which I don't think belongs in a Full English.

United KingdomNothing at all and it was very peaceful.
Near the town centre and Whitehaven harbour, down a hill ten minutes walk away. The staff are very friendly and helpful. Nice meeting place for friends and family, small bar and lovely views outside if weather is good. Bright white towels in bathroom, tea and coffee in room. Warm and comfortable mid sized hotel. We will return.

United KingdomThis hotel is set set in a stunning location; it is exceptionally clean, the food was wonderful, but best of all were the staff who are absolutely amazing. Nothing was too much and everything they did was done with a smile on their face. My family and I were there under sad circumstances - a funeral- we not only stayed at The Chase Hotel, we also held the wake there too and everything they did was wonderful! I would highly recommend staying here to everyone and I would certainly love to stay again.

United KingdomInsufficient staffing levels, One regular staff member serving breakfast as well as covering reception and answering phone. Far to many demands on one person resulting in little errors. Never saw the owner who resides in hotel. Bit fawlty towers at times. Missing tea spoons, milk, etc on laid tables. Orange juice was foul, awful tasting concentrate. They bring in temp staff as support... when they have no choice . Young persons who have no hospitality training and are slow, lacking communication skills and unable to smile. I would stay there again as the good things outweigh the poor things. There is a lack of leadership at this hotel and it could be so much better with very little effort.
Room and hotel spotlessly clean superb shower pressure, big fluffy towels, great parking, excellent cooked breakfast, , good value for money. Long term staff wonderful. One chambermaid been there 21 yrs. Lovely grounds and outside patio.

United KingdomI'll add a mention for the water pressure here. This is most likely a local plumbing matter and not really the fault of the hotel, however, if it's something you're especially sensitive to... Shower water pressure was on the low side. As the shower is from the mains plumbing and not a separate power-shower appliance, I'm not sure how much better it could be. Similarly, the loo has a notice on top to say give a brief press for a short flush; press and hold for a full flush. The idea of saving water is fine, but I couldn't see any particular increase in flow between the two supposedly different options. Anyway, small points and overall an enjoyable stay.
The Chase is well located, with wonderful staff and is a highly pleasant place to stay. I had breakfast included with my overnights and that was plentiful and of high quality. Bedding, towels, room facilities, i.e. kettle and biscuits all fine and everything spotlessly clean. I also used the restaurant and bar for an evening meal and can recommend that too.

United KingdomThe evening meal was great, but there was no lounge area to relax after the meal, although in summer you would be able to relax outside on the patio and garden area. There was not a written breakfast menu, so it became a question and answer session, especially for the wife who is vegetarian. They appeared short staffed, we had to ask for some glasses and for the juices to be replenished, throughout breakfast not one table was cleared away after the guests had finished their meal.
