Nice staff and cosy atmosphere

We booked two consecutive nights but under two separate bookings. We were told when we got back at 9pm on the second evening that one of the three rooms had been cleared and moved to another room. My friend went to the other room to find that her luggage was not there, it took about half an hour to find it, which was very stressful. No apology was given, which we felt was pretty poor.

Comfortable rooms. Good breakfast and serving staff. Free parking nearby.

We have stayed at the Dumfries Arms in the past. Although quiet, being at the back of the hotel, the room we were given on this occasion ( no.20) was a bit dark and dingy with its sloping ceiling, poor lighting and dark worn furniture and fabric. We felt it definitely was not worth the price paid for an overnight stay. However, the bed was very comfortable and we had a good sleep and didn't need to be in the room for long. We will return but would prefer a brighter room next time.

Great location for the Bookfest at Dumfries House. Bar staff and waiting staff were friendly and attentive making guests feeling relaxed from the start. Convenient car parking. The bathroom was spacious with both a shower and bath which suited our needs. The full Scottish breakfast was most enjoyable with an option for a smaller portion.

It is not buggy or wheelchair friendly as a lift brings you to first floor but then rooms are accessible via a few more steps. Food mediocre

The TV in the room next to 32 is obviously right on the other side of the wall to the head board so I was disturbed by extremely loud TV till 11 pm and then again come 6.30 am.

Nice historical building but modernized inside. Good bar area to sit and relax in and good food.

My wife had breast o f chicken with mashed potatoes with cheese and broccoli.The chicken was very dry and the cheese on the potatoes too stodgy .Itwasa bit disappointing.

I asked for2 poached eggs on toast but it just came with 2 eggs on a big plate no toast

Room was a bit warm, creaky floorboards ( but it's an old building so understandable) , it felt like you were creeping about a wee bit . But on the whole a nice hotel

The lift only goes to the 1st floor & it was difficult to lug a heavy case up all the remaining stairs

Liked most of it but rooms are a bit tired, carpets have seen better days etc. Food was v good no problems, staff in resturant were exceptional and fulfilled fussy orders for our table. Would return again.

Couldn't get much sleep, duvet very thick and heavy causing discomfort and to warm for much sleeping

our first room, was tiny and very dated, there was a fire light that shone and illuminated the room at night, however on bringing this to the attention of the young receptionist, we were moved no problem.

staff were exceptional, always polite and always had a smile. The breakfast and main meals were very good, and value for money. The restaurant staff were attentive and efficient. The bar area was quite busy at times, due to functions and weddings, but we always managed a night cap. The drinks are a little pricey, but i suppose they are hotel prices. Special shout out to James the night porter, my husband is a very early riser, and his customer focus was exceptional, providing him with a coffee, and a friendly chat.
