The heating wouldn't go off on our first night there so the room was hot. We opened the window which helped a bit but then we couldn't sleep due to street noise. Turns out a whole section of the hotel had this problem. They compensated us by removing our car parking charge for a night and our second night was comfortable.

The staff were very welcoming and helpful, it was my partners birthday and they upgraded our room and there was a gift of cheescake which was a lovely touch. The room was large, clean and despite being at the front of the hotel, very quiet. Location was great, very close to Durham city centre

The hallways and rooms haven't been redecorated in quite a long time--the place could use a bit of sprucing up. Also, the elevator was broken, so we had to carry our suitcases to the 2nd floor.

We were upgraded to river view room. Comfortable and spacious. Modern bathroom. Great location, easy walking distance to historic center. Short taxi ride from train station (would be a difficult walk - long steep hill and busy road). Friendly, personable staff.

On arriving home I discovered £124 was "pending" from my account. On contacting the hotel, I was told this was "taken" at check-in and would be put back in my account in a few days. The person who checked us in (not Gavin!) did not mention or explain this. Took the shine off an otherwise delightful trip to Durham.

It is very well located, has friendly, cooperative staff, and we got a comfortable room equipped with necessary amenities. Our stay was pleasant and memorable.

The room contained two double beds - would have preferred one 5ft or 6ft double bed. Lack of information in the room about the restaurant, neither menu or prices.

Location was lovely - right on the bank of the river and easy and close access into the town. Room had a lovely walk in shower with simple and easy to use controls. Staff were friendly and helpful.

The price!! It was a busy weekend so good old dynamic pricing kicked in so had to pay £224 for a room that was in essence a £120 room at best. Not hotel or staff fault though it’s how it is now but not value for money..
