check in and out we had to wait quite a while. Several couples queuing and not enough staff. The rooms are also a little tired and the inside of the bathroom windows could do with a good clean.

All the staff were extremely professional and helpful, however lack of staff in most areas. The food was amazing.

The cottages where quite a way from the main building but guess that can’t be helped. They could have done with some air con as the radiator was stuck on hot on the whole night and no hot water in the evening but back on in the morning for some strange reason. The spa area was far too busy so didn’t bother going which was a shame

Beautiful historical building set in acres of lovely gardens and woodlands. Rooms were nicely decorated and delicious breakfast in the morning. Helpful and friendly stafff

They did not have a double mattress. We tried 3 rooms which were available and they all had two single mattresses which made up the bed in the rooms. I find these very uncomfortable and therefore the reason for my lower score.

The breakfast was good and the atmosphere was lovely

The bed predated the buildings and was harder and lumpier - terrible night sleep and a bad odour from the drains in the bathroom. Also, the hotel in called Champney’s hotel and Spa, but we discovered on arrival that they are not linked at all and guests are charged for very limited access. -Definitely misleading!

Beautiful historic hotel and lovely surroundings

BREAKFAST staff and choices were a 10+. Getting from one's car into hotel registration was difficult with luggage due to the "pebble" stone making it difficult to "drag" one's suitcase!

Breakfast staff were EXCELLENT. Both Chris and Matthew were fantastic as was Abbey at the sign in desk. Breakfast selections were excellent. The manager from Zimbabwe was pleasant but had quite an accent making it somehwat hard to understand him.

We were in the 'Mews' on the ground floor, unfortunately, no net curtain over the window, so felt a bit exposed. We had to pull the blind down quite early in the evening. The room was .. well a room really, for a name as big as Champneys, I would have thought the room could have been a bit more inviting. It just felt clinical and dated. It definitely needs some oomph! We didn't use the facilities as there was a charge of £15, which we were not made aware of at the time of booking.

Absolutely stunning gardens and grounds. A big thankyou to the hardworking gardeners and groundsmen, who keep this hotel looking fabulous. The breakfast was ok, the waitresses were very pleasant. Very quiet.

I was disappointed that swimming wasn't included in the price of my room. I wanted a short swim before dinner but sadly I had to leave at 6:30 the next morning so couldn't swim then. I was going to be charged £15 which was ridiculous for half an hour. The shower floor was very slippery with no rails to hold onto.

I liked my room in the Mews

First I was disappointed that we had to pay extra for pools inside , because day before I called when I booked to make sure is included breakfast and pools in the price and was told me yes . In the bathroom wasn’t added body wash , wasn’t clean enough dust on the window sill and in the corners . We been two couples with our friends . I expected in this hotel machine for coffee on breakfast not to pay again extra . So we ordered but my friend get different coffee than she ordered then we get breakfast and our husbands not , when we eaten we ask about our husbands breakfast, staff were confused they ask again what they ordered . Poor choose of continental breakfast . Staff didn’t show interest at the dinner and breakfast as well

The restaurant Gardenia had great food and nice interior, but the service was awful. We waited for ages and sometimes staff didn't come back once asked a question they didn't have the answer to. We had to chase staff multiple times and they seemed quite lost.

I’m so happy we chose this hotel — the place was amazing! The receptionist was incredibly kind and welcoming. Unfortunately, since we came with our child, we didn’t get the chance to use the spa. Our room was beautiful, and we’re already planning to come back without the baby to enjoy some much-needed parent time. However, we were disappointed with the restaurant. The steaks were poorly cooked — we asked for medium-rare, but they came out well done. My husband didn’t even finish his meal, which is frustrating considering the price. It really should have been cooked to perfection. The service in the restaurant also needs improvement. There was only one person taking orders for six tables, which is honestly ridiculous. Even at breakfast, it felt chaotic. The staff were running around, but not very effective. We ordered a full English breakfast and were told toast would be brought over — it never arrived. We also requested water for our baby, waited over 10 minutes, and had to ask again. When it finally came, it was tap water, even though we specifically asked for still water, which I don’t drink due to the chlorine taste. Despite these issues, the hotel itself is lovely, and the receptionist (unfortunately, I didn’t catch his name) truly stood out with his kindness. We’ll definitely be back this summer with friends to try the spa — but we might skip the restaurant next time, as the food wasn’t very tasty.

We rang in the way down to ask if we could come early and use the facilities. Standard question. The phone was answered by a guy who had learned customer service from Basil Fawlty. He couldn’t say if we could arrive early, asserted there was a fee for doing this but the corker was couldn’t tell us what the fee was! Listening to the call in the car I was wondering if I’d made a terrible mistake. Breakfast was poor. The buffet was depleted and for instance the bread rolls were not replenished. Eggs Benedict came wet on the muffin. Charged £3 for an espresso or cappuccino at breakfast when it was included in the room rate - I don’t think this is on.

The grounds are stunning - incredible views. The house is a crazy mishmash of styles. Staff try really hard. Place was clean.

We stayed in one of the mews rooms and it was lovely! Very spacious, clean and lovely courtyard; only downfall was a ground floor room and there was a lot of noise from the upstairs neighbours until quite late. The grounds are beautiful but could do with better signage on how to find your way around & make the most of them! Great spa facilities but again slightly disappointed as both the sauna and outside hydrolic pool were faulty and out of action during our stay

Staff where incompetent, was charged for using the spa before actually going there when we where told it’s pay per entrance. No one likes having to query a bill especially on a birthday weekend as it doesn’t set the tone for having an enjoyable time & we had to do it twice. Dinner was ridiculously slow to come out almost 2 hours before we received our mains, food was barely enough to feed a toddler and massively overpriced for what it was, considering we chose the hotel menu which was supposedly 3 courses for £35 but when the bill came out it was £120? We had no extras and a drink each. When I questioned where the other £50 had come from I was assured it was correct by that point we just wanted to leave and to save the embarrassment we just dealt with the fact we’d been ripped off and called it a night. Next morning thought we try breakfast.. no one to greet us, then when we where finally seated we where ignored for 30 minutes before any food orders where taken, by this point we had enough and got up & left. Then to make it worse where called out across the restaurant in front of everyone that we should sit back down and she would be over shortly, incredibly embarrassing once again.

Absolutely stunning Manor House, rooms were huge and just generally a beautiful place to be.

First 2 rooms we were given we okay, but one was very cold and noisy and the glass of the window was broken. In both rooms there was a lot of wear and tear that needed sorting. When we asked to be moved the new rooms were much nicer and had beautiful views (the previous looked at the Aircon unit of the kitchen) but one room had a shower that was continuously dripping, I put towels down to absorb the noise and water and they were soaked through in the morning. Staff were nice and friendly but seemed confused at times. Like telling us breakfast was 8am in the spa when it was 07:30 in the restaurant. Also ate at the bar (food was very nice) but told several options out of stock, and then chose the soup only to be told they didn't actually have that soup so it'd be different flavour. Overall the hotel is beautiful, has huge grounds to explore, great location, and staff are nice but it's not a 5 star experience by any means and the hotel is definitely in need of renovation and refreshing. Oh also no fridges in rooms.
