How guest reviews work
Each review score is between 1-10. To get the overall score that you see, we add up all the review scores we’ve received and divide that total by the number of review scores we’ve received. We use a weighted review system which means that the more recent the review, the bigger the impact on the total review score calculation. In addition, guests can give separate ‘subscores’ in crucial areas, such as location, cleanliness, staff, comfort, facilities, value for money and free Wi-Fi. Note that guests submit their subscores and their overall scores independently, so there’s no direct link between them.
You can review an Accommodation that you booked through our Platform if you stayed there or if you arrived at the property but didn’t actually stay there. To edit a review you’ve already submitted, please contact our Customer Service team.
We have people and automated systems that specialise in detecting fake reviews submitted to our Platform. If we find any, we delete them and, if necessary, take action against whoever is responsible.
Anyone else who spots something suspicious can always report it to our Customer Service team, so our Fraud team can investigate.
Ideally, we would publish every review we receive, whether positive or negative. However, we won’t display any review that includes or refers to (among other things):
- Politically sensitive comments
- Promotional content
- Illegal activities
- Personal or sensitive information (e.g. emails, phone numbers or credit card info)
- Swear words, sexual references, hate speech, discriminatory remarks, threats, or references to violence
- Spam and fake content
- Animal cruelty
- Impersonation (e.g. if the writer is claiming to be someone else)
- Any violation of our review guidelines.
To make sure reviews are relevant, we may only accept reviews that are submitted within 3 months of checking out, and we may stop showing reviews once they’re 36 months old – or if the Accommodation has a change of ownership.
An Accommodation may choose to reply to a review.
When you see multiple reviews, the most recent ones will be at the top, subject to a few other factors (what language a review is in, whether it’s just a rating or contains comments as well, etc.). If you like, you can sort and/or filter them (by time of year, review score, etc.).
We sometimes show external review scores from other well-known travel websites. We make it clear when we’ve done this.
Guidelines and standards for Reviews

Unfortunately the room was very small as we also had our 2 dogs with us. The bed was only a large single bed and it desperately needs a new mattress

The room was limited for space but acceptable. The beer was a little disappointing (too 'flat') but improved as the week went on.
The food at breakfast and dinner was excellent. The hotel was situated conveniently for the places we visited. The staff were friendly, courteous and helpful.

Needs to include breakfast as an option . I thought the bed in the room I had could have been a better quality and bigger .

Everything was great
Staff were friendly and helpful. The hotel and pub were so beautiful and quaint. The room was spacious. We really liked the coffee and drinks station outside of our room for guests to use.

Personnel choice but pillows we too hard and bed a little soft for me. Appreciate this is a gastro pub, but after two courses I was left still Hungry.

The pub has an exceptional selection of beers and wines. Evening Meal was excellent and value for money. Room small but everything was clean, well presented and worked. Free coffee downstairs in the bedroom entrance hall, fresh milk in the fridge. Staff friendly and efficient. Will stay here again when I am in the area.

Lovely clean and spacious room. Open plan bathroom with massive bath. Tea and coffee facilities just outside door. Staff were really friendly and adapted to needs. Couldn’t ask for more!

Sound proofing between rooms isn't that good!
Very comfortable bed. Staff were very friendly and welcoming. I wish I had time to try some food as the aroma coming from the kitchen was smelling amazing. Very good beer

Very friendly and helpful staff. We had a delicious evening meal and equally good breakfast the following morning. The location was perfect for our visit to the nearby snowdrops at Welford Park.

I had a superb stay overall and hope to make this my regular accommodation when I am in the area! Good points, in no particular order: Easy to park right outside the pub. Room was spotlessly clean and very comfortable. The pub food is outstanding and very well priced. The staff are extremely friendly and helpful. I did not notice any noise from the pub (albeit it was a weeknight) - the rooms are not directly above the pub. Fantastic value for money!

Beautiful village pub with open fire. Great room with shower and roll top free standing bath. Comfortable bed. Great location for exploring the local area with walks surrounded the pub too. Dog friendly and welcoming.

My room was very clean but not very spacious. I was visiting whilst on business and needed a desk to work on. Unfortunately due to the limited space of the room this was not possible.
Lovely privately owned pub and hotel, the staff were very attentive. The restaurant food was first class

Shower a little small but they uograded me to a double which was very friendly
I loved the hot & tasty food and staff were excellent. The location is Axe 10m.one way to a Spar shop and just 20 mins to Newbury for a Take Away. The room and facilities were immaculate with, well spoken tenants and patrons. The area is perfect for seeing Calne and all around Marlborough. Loved the extra touch of a free coffee machine. Breakfast, and.Lunch were great..Had a great time, rrasonably priced, hot shower, powerful, good parking, beautiful marquis for events, just lovely, Thanks to All Staff at The 5 Bells Wickham.
