We stayed in one of the residences, which were beautiful but showing some signs of wear and tear (peeling paint, broken window fittings etc). There were points when we might have liked to hang out in the lounge/bar area and have some drinks e.g. before/after dinner but the area was always deserted and quite hard to find someone to order a drink from - seemed like a missed opportunity for making some more revenue! We loved the remote location but worth noting the very narrow country roads and distance from civilisation in general, if that's what you're looking for!

Stunning location, views and decor. We especially loved the outdoor pool and walk down to the beach. We stayed in one of the residences with a sea view and sitting out on the balcony in the morning looking out to sea with a coffee was a very special experience. Staff very friendly and helpful, food in restaurant very good (but pricey!)

Needs more Spa staff / Spa should be open 7 days a week. Some shade needed at outside pool and Spa outside seating

The windows were very difficult to close upstairs in the lounge area of the Penthouse. We did think a little maintenance was needed around the public areas, but understand it’s just wear and tear with constant use. But in general, everything looked beautiful :)

We are local and have seen Gara Rock through all her changes over the years. We love the location away from it all and we love the uniqueness of the hotel and especially the incredible views.

Not much to dislike. If you want various restaurants and shops then this is not the place for you. Salcombe is a good 45 min drive away. Very hilly walking with tracks rather than paths so if you’re not steady on your feet avoid the trails. Our big gripe was the restaurant situation. Fine dining has been removed and now they are only offering what I would say is a pub menu and it’s the same everyday lunch & dinner. On a five night stay we struggled with choices. Saying that the food we did have was really good and the breakfasts were superb. We would have appreciated being told about the dining situation when booking though I think the website has now been changed as so many people complained.

If you’re looking for a get away from everything kind of break then this place won’t disappoint. Junior suites are fantastic. View from restaurant is stunning. The best bit for us was the staff. So friendly and helpful. Made our trip.

That theft was no a la carte menu for our evening meal , only the lunch menu to choose from which already had done during the day . My daughter had stayed recently and she had the a la menu an available to her , so disappointed as we struggled to choose ! I did question this but was told they were between transition but not sure what that meant ….. just would have been informed when we booked out table for that evening that this was the case .

Stayed in room 1 JS upstairs above the dining area, great balcony with sea views toward Bolt Head and Salcombe, food and staff are great and the location is second to none if you like costal walks!

Door on exit to garden was difficult to open.

Not really a negative, but something that people need to know, is that to get to the hotel you have to travel on many single track roads - but this is the fact of life for traveling in the Devon country side. So the journey can take a while and you need to be prepaired to reverse the car if needed to the next passing point - especially if it's a bit truck coming in the opposit direction

The hotel was very comfortable, the staff were very friendly and very helpful advising even on the best way to travel to and from the hotel and the nearby towns, the best walking tracks, etc. They always welcomed us with a smile. The room we stayed at had a sea front view, and clean and comfortable. The bathroom had both a shower and a bath. Other facilities included a swimming pool, sauna and even a cinema room that can be booked free or charge - a really enjoyable addition on a rainy day..!! Additionally the meals in the restaurant was really nice

Restaurant beautifully decorated , but food wasn’t great to be honest and a limited menu and overpriced - we went to the a la carte .

Location was beautiful , property was lovely and rooms very well decorated - a bit cold in the room at night heating not easy to figure out . Staff lovely . Breakfast served in room was great !

it really is in the middle of nowhere - nothing nearby no shop nothing- think you need to be more honest about that for self catering residences

Our room could have been serviced better during our 5 nights, mainly the bathroom and some of the dining room chairs need a clean.

Dogs in the restaurant for breakfast. A large poodle threw up under the adjoining table while we were eating. Not a great experience and we felt sosorry for the member of staff who had to then clean it up.

Great location and facilities. The pool and spa were superb. Staff were so lovely and welcoming. Lived up to the recommendation.

I did make one request to have a soufflé for desert on my wife's birthday evening and offered to pay extra for it , when booking in i was told this arranged only to be told 30 minutes later that they were unable to do as the kitchen could not do it.

The Breakfast and location were both excellent , a great place to relax.
