Each review score is between 1-10. To get the overall score that you see, we add up all the review scores we’ve received and divide that total by the number of review scores we’ve received. We use a weighted review system which means that the more recent the review, the bigger the impact on the total review score calculation. In addition, guests can give separate ‘subscores’ in crucial areas, such as location, cleanliness, staff, comfort, facilities, value for money and free Wi-Fi. Note that guests submit their subscores and their overall scores independently, so there’s no direct link between them.
You can review an Accommodation that you booked through our Platform if you stayed there or if you arrived at the property but didn’t actually stay there. To edit a review you’ve already submitted, please contact our Customer Service team.
We have people and automated systems that specialise in detecting fake reviews submitted to our Platform. If we find any, we delete them and, if necessary, take action against whoever is responsible.
Anyone else who spots something suspicious can always report it to our Customer Service team, so our Fraud team can investigate.
Ideally, we would publish every review we receive, whether positive or negative. However, we won’t display any review that includes or refers to (among other things):
To make sure reviews are relevant, we may only accept reviews that are submitted within 3 months of checking out, and we may stop showing reviews once they’re 36 months old – or if the Accommodation has a change of ownership.
An Accommodation may choose to reply to a review.
When you see multiple reviews, the most recent ones will be at the top, subject to a few other factors (what language a review is in, whether it’s just a rating or contains comments as well, etc.). If you like, you can sort and/or filter them (by time of year, review score, etc.).
We sometimes show external review scores from other well-known travel websites. We make it clear when we’ve done this.
These guidelines and standards aim to keep the content on Booking.com relevant and family-friendly without limiting expression of strong opinions. They are also applicable regardless of the sentiment of the comment.
Contributions should be travel related. The most helpful contributions are detailed and help others make better decisions. Please don’t include personal, political, ethical, or religious commentary. Promotional content will be removed and issues concerning Booking.com’s services should be routed to our Customer Service or Accommodation Service teams.
Contributions should be appropriate for a global audience. Please avoid using profanity or attempts to approximate profanity with creative spelling, in any language. Comments and media that include 'hate speech', discriminatory remarks, threats, sexually explicit remarks, violence, and the promotion of illegal activity are not permitted.
All content should be genuine and unique to the guest. Reviews are most valuable when they are original and unbiased. Your contribution should be yours. Booking.com property partners should not post on behalf of guests or offer incentives in exchange for reviews. Attempts to bring down the rating of a competitor by submitting a negative review will not be tolerated.
Respect the privacy of others. Booking.com will make an effort to obscure email addresses, telephone numbers, website addresses, social media accounts, and similar details.
The opinions expressed in contributions are those of Booking.com customers and properties and not of Booking.com. Booking.com does not accept responsibility or liability for any reviews or responses. Booking.com is a distributor (without any obligation to verify) and not a publisher of these comments and responses.
By default, reviews are sorted based on the date of the review and on additional criteria to display the most relevant reviews, including but not limited to: your language, reviews with text, and non-anonymous reviews. Additional sorting options may be available (by type of traveller, by score, etc.).

United KingdomBreakfast in the Garden restaurant was somewhat chaotic. The waiting staff were doing their best but there was no supervision and for some there was definitely a training need. The staff were polite but the service was very slow and sporadic, we like a leisurely breakfast but our breakfast experience wes taken to another level. We noticed several incorrect breakfast orders being served to unsuspecting guests, we are unsure whether this was a waiting or kitchen fault. The Grand is a 5 star establishment and needs to improve in this area. I intend the above comments to be constructive and hope to see a marked improvement on our next visit.
Vicorian splendour at it's best, exquisite dining at Marabelle and great leisure facilities.

United KingdomThe room smelled old or like a carehome. Not sure if it is the carpet or curtains but not nice, not fresh. Our cards got somehow deactivated the next day so after breakfast we walked up, found out they don't work, walked down, handed to reception and they said oh yeah, of course, and extended by 1 more hour so that we can enter back into our room. No explanation, no apology. We are young and didn't mind that much but you would think some people wouldn't be thrilled to keep going up and down for no reason. Changing rooms and lockers in the spa area are quite dated.
Staff, most of them amazing. Really warm and friendly. One of them advised us on best location to take photos in the hotel. Super sweet. Location is great, near the beach. Heated pools, spacious rooms...They tag your luggage nicely if you keep it there after checkout and hand it only to the correct owner. So many hotels don't do this and just let you enter the luggage storage and take anything you like. Good to know your belongings are safe.

United KingdomCocktail prices. 2 for £20 during 5-7 great, menu stated that fine but it also stated that it was £12 for one, also fine! Menus left on tables after 7pm which was confusing when we thought normal cocktail prices would be £12 each and not £19.20 each. Prices were on a separate drinks menu. This really needs to be addressed, I tried to speak with staff but sadly not enough experience to see the dilemma. Staff did their very best though but it still cost £43.50 for 2 nightcaps!
Location very friendly staff

United KingdomOur room was comfortable but with no air air conditioning and windows that did not open it was somewhat stuffy and necessitated keeping a rather noisy fan going all night.
The breakfast was excellent with a wide range of choice.

United KingdomThere was work going on in the area that we were staying, it’s a big hotel so we did feel that they could have put us elsewhere. Also it’s described as inland view, there was no view so that is very misleading.

United KingdomThe Garden Restaurant was poor for a five star hotel. I had the same fish of the day meal both nights we ate there. On the second evening the side dish of veg was missing. We had guests so didn’t make a fuss. No offer of coffee.
The porters, cleaners, waiters all very helpful. The Mirabelle restaurant was excellent. Parking attendants very helpful.
