There was nothing we could complain about at all

Our room was clean and comfortable. Only problem was the squeaky floor with every step we took, but considering the age of the building I suppose that can't be helped. We went for Sunday lunch and was very surprised as it was a 3 course meal.Extremely good value for money.

Did not like the way that the food service was handled, it made you feel like you were in a soup kitchen.

I witnessed two separate guests, one of whom claimed her room had been broken into and another who said she had an item of her removed from her room, being spoken to by the assistant manager, Matthew, very rudely. Matthew needs to learn a little about customer service. The check out system is ridiculous. There was 3 reception staff who were extremely slow at checking people in.

The location is ideal and the views are lovely. Most of the hotel staff are lovely.

The exterior of the hotel was infested with seabirds, and as such, made a terrible racket and you were always at risk of droppings when walking around the outside. Meal times were very short in duration making them very busy as a result. extending by just half an hour would alleviate this somewhat.

The room I booked was a premium one overlooking the terrace and as such was quite spacious and the bed very comfortable. it was equipped with a spa bath which I made use of after a 10 mile walk along the Cleveland Way. The views to the sea and harbour were great.

Really for the price it was okay. No atmosphere felt like a retirement holiday village.

The building was fantastic. The tram down to beach was fantastic but if you miss it coming back be prepared for a hike.

The bathroom and hotel rooms could do with a facelift it needs a lot of maintenance furniture needs to be updated as they are shoddy with graffiti on in them in the rooms including a narzi symbol could do with a maintenance staff team, and found hairs in the bathroom and a electric box falling to bits and rubbish left from previous people

Some of the furniture was coming to the end of its life and a bit rickety.

Location was brilliant, you could get to the beach, castle and amusements on a very short walk. The room was expected for the price. The hotel is a little run down and will never be back to its Victorian glory days but it's just what we needed for our short trip. The room was a very good size and ideal for us with one double bed and two single beds for the kids.

We stayed in an Executive room which only has a tiny lift (only took 4 people) to take you to the room, this took ages due to the queue of people. The lift was seperate from the main lifts. We ended up walking down the stairs which was a bit if a mission with 3 children a pushchair and a suitcase. Check in was also a little lengthy, there was quite a large queue which they do warn when you book so potentially you could go later to avoid the wait. Also parking was a little stressful as initially everywhere was full however we parked near Matalan in the end which was only a 3 minute walk to the hotel. The bathroom looked like it had partially been modernised, the flood was modern vinyl but i think It would benefit from the bathroom suite being replaced.

We loved the location of the Grand, it was perfect for accessing the beach either by tram down the cliff or walking down the stairs / path. As we had the pushchair we used the accessible walk way through the gardens, down the cliff then the tram up. We paid to have a sea view which was well worth it in my opinion. The hotel is undergoing some modernisation. I wasn't expecting much due to the poor reviews but I was pleasantly surprised. The room was comfortable and the bonus was having a fridge in the room which was perfect for keeping milk and snacks for our toddler. I also was grateful for the teabags and milk sachets in reception which you could take to have a brew in your room (if you'd used up the ones which were left).

Some little things like so few towels for two, one pair of slippers for two, lack of hangers in the bathroom, etc. can spoil the impression of the stay. The most disappointing was the poor operation of a small freezer that exhibited room temperature inside despite correct setting of the regulator.

The breakfast is standard. The menu presents no extras but, in general, it serves the purpose. And the quality of food is very good as well as the service. We like the location of the hotel which has the long and glorious history. The room is very clean, and the beddings are irreproachable.

Terribly slow check in - nearly an hour long queue. More staff needed plus is identification check of passports/driving licence necessary for uk citizens. This slowed it down. Previous nights stay elsewhere booked online key handed over on arrival no further check in needed.

The toilets in the bar area in my opinion was disgusting. Very dirty and smelly. Needs some TLC. The rooms was very out dated and there was wires hanging down everywhere. The toilet wouldn't flush and the beds were very uncomfortable.

The hotel looks stunning from the outside. The reception area also looks lovely and inviting. The staff are all pleasant and helpful.
