Each review score is between 1-10. To get the overall score that you see, we add up all the review scores we’ve received and divide that total by the number of review scores we’ve received. We use a weighted review system which means that the more recent the review, the bigger the impact on the total review score calculation. In addition, guests can give separate ‘subscores’ in crucial areas, such as location, cleanliness, staff, comfort, facilities, value for money and free Wi-Fi. Note that guests submit their subscores and their overall scores independently, so there’s no direct link between them.
You can review an Accommodation that you booked through our Platform if you stayed there or if you arrived at the property but didn’t actually stay there. To edit a review you’ve already submitted, please contact our Customer Service team.
We have people and automated systems that specialise in detecting fake reviews submitted to our Platform. If we find any, we delete them and, if necessary, take action against whoever is responsible.
Anyone else who spots something suspicious can always report it to our Customer Service team, so our Fraud team can investigate.
Ideally, we would publish every review we receive, whether positive or negative. However, we won’t display any review that includes or refers to (among other things):
To make sure reviews are relevant, we may only accept reviews that are submitted within 3 months of checking out, and we may stop showing reviews once they’re 36 months old – or if the Accommodation has a change of ownership.
An Accommodation may choose to reply to a review.
When you see multiple reviews, the most recent ones will be at the top, subject to a few other factors (what language a review is in, whether it’s just a rating or contains comments as well, etc.). If you like, you can sort and/or filter them (by time of year, review score, etc.).
We sometimes show external review scores from other well-known travel websites. We make it clear when we’ve done this.
These guidelines and standards aim to keep the content on Booking.com relevant and family-friendly without limiting expression of strong opinions. They are also applicable regardless of the sentiment of the comment.
Contributions should be travel related. The most helpful contributions are detailed and help others make better decisions. Please don’t include personal, political, ethical, or religious commentary. Promotional content will be removed and issues concerning Booking.com’s services should be routed to our Customer Service or Accommodation Service teams.
Contributions should be appropriate for a global audience. Please avoid using profanity or attempts to approximate profanity with creative spelling, in any language. Comments and media that include 'hate speech', discriminatory remarks, threats, sexually explicit remarks, violence, and the promotion of illegal activity are not permitted.
All content should be genuine and unique to the guest. Reviews are most valuable when they are original and unbiased. Your contribution should be yours. Booking.com property partners should not post on behalf of guests or offer incentives in exchange for reviews. Attempts to bring down the rating of a competitor by submitting a negative review will not be tolerated.
Respect the privacy of others. Booking.com will make an effort to obscure email addresses, telephone numbers, website addresses, social media accounts, and similar details.
The opinions expressed in contributions are those of Booking.com customers and properties and not of Booking.com. Booking.com does not accept responsibility or liability for any reviews or responses. Booking.com is a distributor (without any obligation to verify) and not a publisher of these comments and responses.
By default, reviews are sorted based on the date of the review and on additional criteria to display the most relevant reviews, including but not limited to: your language, reviews with text, and non-anonymous reviews. Additional sorting options may be available (by type of traveller, by score, etc.).

The location was convenient for everything that I wanted to do in Edinburgh. I could walk to many places for eating and sightseeing, etc. and if required, buses were on hand. The room met my expectations, although the shower/ bathroom was pretty small.

Argentina- Beds, they are small and the matress is not very nice to sleep in - No housekeeping or change of towels (I think you can get it for a fee)
- Location works great, near buses stops and 20 min walk to city centre. - Very welcoming and nice staff - Facilities are great: laundry room, kitchen, playroom - Private room with own toilet. Very convenient and good value for money. Still, very small. We were 2 people and it worked well for 3 days but for more than that I think it can get very unconfortable.

Canada- The bathroom drain was clogged in our room - Comfort of the bed was so-so - Dishes weren't washed in the kitchen so one of the sink was full - the laundry system could be better as you have to download an app and create an account (coin laundry system is less complicated)

United StatesMy stay was overall good, and was definitely worth the price; but, the bathroom was a bit too small to be comfortable. I'm a pretty petite person and barely had room to dry off after showering. The water temperature was also very inconsistent, although manageable.
The environment was so cozy and lovely, it was really fun and charming to stay in a school dorm. I felt very safe. The staff were very kind and helpful - I needed help a couple of times and my issues were resolved quickly and with kindness. I especially appreciated having a kitchen in the room, and the bedroom with two desks was a good size.

United KingdomThe free luggage drop off area is in an open area with cctv. This does not seem secure to me so I ended up paying for secure luggage storage elsewhere. I am sure nothing goes missing but did not feel that an open unmonitored area was a good place to leave my things.
Property was clean, well priced and well located. There are lifts to the rooms. The room was basic and is essentially a student dorm room with ensuite. I was there to spend time at The Fringe so it was a great base for my time there. I did not use any of the kitchen or other facilities. I had no issues with my stay.

TaiwanThe shower room is too small, even a regular size person feel uncomfortable. There’re stairs when going to the residence building, however luggage can’t use the lift unless you are handicapped people.
It’s a student lounge so basically everything is designed for students, can’t ask for a commercial hotel. It’s just a good student lounge with the price accordingly.

United KingdomConstant banging of fire doors. I was also next to one for the corridor so each person would go through 3 doors which banged to exit. They could put soft close hinges on the doors ! Also, welcome was fill in a form and bank card please. No explanation about security gate, facilities or general welcome which is a shame as Edinburgh is famous for its hospitality and warmth.

United KingdomOn the first night, there was advance notice that there wouldn't be running water for two hours in the evening, but this issue was resolved very quickly when speaking to the team afterwards. The mattress isn't comfy as you can feel the springs digging in.
The location was great for the festival, it was nice to have a private en-suite room. The view of Arthur's seat from the room was incredible, and although people have complained here about the noise levels and loud slamming doors, I didn't notice this at all. It was quiet every night during the festival. The staff were super friendly and they have areas in reception area where you can chill. The shared kitchen area is also handy if you don't want to keep eating out! It was very easy to walk to the key locations in the city and all areas need to be accessed with your room card, so it felt very secure.
