We couldn't turn the heating off,, then when we did we couldn't turn it back on The room was booked backed to back with another neighbour,, I would of found it less stressful being quieter,, it was quite loud out in the street at 🌃 the guests who stayed were from the EU,, the things that we heard from them were disgusting.. the shower was scolding hot and couldn't turn it down..

The staff were lovely,, they couldn't do enough,, they let us know everything we needed to know before checking in,, let us know if we had any qs, we were welcome to go down and ask,, the hotel was so much more than what I expected

No air conditioning, however the windows opened, providing some relief from the heat. Perhaps installed fan or stand alone fan would suffice, given the shortness of the English summer.

Friendly, caring and accommodating staff. Facilities good but no bar fridge in room. Conveniently located near both train and bus, while in easy walking distance from city centre.

Small pots of milk in the room out of date, so curdled in tea and coffee. Best before date was Dec 2022. When going to the reception to try to get fresh ones, no one was there. Then tried again in the morning for our first cup of the day, reception all locked up and no one about.

The clients on the upper floor were able to see the interior of the room. It demanded to keep the curtain closed. Therefore, I could enjoy the sun in full.

The room was clean and comfortable. The internet connectivity was strong and we enjoyed it. The staff were friendly. They provided enough support.

A long walk from city centre so need to take a bus. Many of the shops nearby seemed closed or limited opening hours.

Friendly staff who allowed an early checkin. Large room (we got upgraded on arrival). Bus stop on road outside. Bus ride to city centre only takes 15 minutes. Small number of restaurants nearby. Quiet room. River walk nearby.

Great central location. I arrived outside of normal check-in times due to road closures. Arrangements were made so that I could collect my room key from a secure, safe box. Excellent customer service.

No semi skimmed milk, not a good outlook. Bar on booking. com states open till late. Both nights were closed when we returned from having our meal about 10pm Walk up a steep hill into town!!!

Bedroom, hall, lift very nice kept clean. Young lady on reception on checking in was excellent and very helpful.

The lighting in the room wasn’t really sufficient, luckily I didn’t really spend time in the room other than to sleep but I imagine if I had to work from my room I would’ve struggled. The shower was a bit small and the temperature settings were very sensitive so difficult to get it to the right temperature. The room had the window open when I arrived to air the room I guess but did make the room cold and the radiator wasn’t the best so took a long time for it to heat the room.

The room was large, clean and the bed and pillows were comfy I was located on the first floor there was no sound from outside or inside and I slept well. Tea and coffee making facilities were in the room but basic which was fine for me, also a large wardrobe to hang your clothes. The parking at the back of the hotel was perfect and it only took about 10mins to walk into town. I would definitely stay again

the hotel was very adequate what it was needed for. I feel the price for 2 nights was very high compared to what else is in the area. the only bonus was the location.

Stains on bedsheets and towels were missing from the room on arrival. Smoking area located just outside (room located on ground floor) so smoke was coming in through the window

The receptionist/hotel owner asked me for some proof of identity which should not usually happen. I travelled with some of my friends across the UK for years and nothing like that was ever the case. I did not have my passport with me, luckily I had another type of ID. The bra next to my bed could not be properly used because the power socket was on the opposite side of my bed. There was no table to put it on on the opposite side. Its cable was also too short to plug it in on the opposite side and to use on the side with the table where the bra was standing. The main light was also to dim, I could not read my book with this light.

The late check-in at midnight was possible but I had to call in. A good location between the town centre and the train station which was important for me. The receptionist/hotel owner gave me some advice how to get to my destination at the next day and even booked a taxi for me.

The reception is shared with another hotel, acrros the street. However, it is open just 9:30am to 5pm. After that period of time, there is no one in the reception, to receive guests or to check in and you may not enter the hotel. In fact, it seems the hotel is closed.

The hotel is clean and modern, and it is close to Colchester station.

The shower in my room was far too hot. But when I told reception they put me in a different room there also wasn’t a restaurant or place for breakfast.

The rooms where comfy and decorated with a homely feel. The location and car park was very convenient. Not many hotels are a walking distance to town and have free parking. Staff are friendly. I personally think the bad reviews were not to do with the service but discrimination. This hotel definitely has potential and I feel like the staff are working hard to make it Better. I think the improvements that need to be made are reflected in the price a it’s very cheap compared to other hotels in the area.
