If you are "IRISH". There is no welcome on the mat. Obvious bad vibes coming from certain staff ( "she" was serving 5.30pm dinners ), but not all staff, thank goodness. The room was lovely until you opened the window.. The room was above the kitchen. Noisy extractor fans booming and spouting smells from busy kitchen and heating system . The bins were also below our window. The beer garden was also below the window. It's OK at this time of year. The windows are metal, singal pane, in keeping with its heritage. I don't think from May onwards you would get an early night due to noise from the beer garden and kitchen. It was no coincidence that we were allocated THAT room.!! Bare minimal condiments left in the room. TV a joke. Big TIP. Avoid room 5 or 4 .

Beautiful building . Accommodation was clean and warm. The food was delicious and well presented. BREAKFAST WAS OUTSTANDING. Our host that morning could not do enough for us, unable to remember his name . His name begins with a B. Sounds like Birken. He is a human dynamo. Brilliant person. Well done, Kenny. He greeted us and made us welcome. Good luck with your new job.

Comfortable room with bath and shower. Tea/coffee/bottled water and biscuits provided every day. Very nice breakfast; we chose to eat in the pub every night which we enjoyed. Very helpful, cheerful staff. We left the car at the Black Boy and went by bus to Oxford which was very quick and easy so great for sightseeing. A lovely stay!

Really nice public house with tasty menu and superlative breakfast. Room was on the small size but everything worked and slept well. The highlight was breakfast with perfectly poached eggs and characterful and flavoursome smoked salmon. Highly recommended.

There was nothing we didn’t like

We throughly enjoyed our stay, the location was just outside the city but easy to leave the car all of our stay and bus into town, all buses were very frequent and it took about five minutes to get into town.

Price was a little more than I ideally wanted to pay, but the place itself and the location outweighed this.

Staff were very helpful and friendly. Facilities were excellent, food in the pub was really nice and the location for a visit to the John Radcliffe Hospital was perfect.

Quiet, out of the way but near the university we were visiting. Dinner and breakfast were delicious and they an accommodated us for dinner when well booked for valentines. Dinner and breakfast menus had amazing choice. Really helpful staff who helped advise on public transport routes. Lovely country village inn style place tucked away not far from all amenities of busy high street. Perfect place to stay away from the “no car” city, but have access to visit by nearby park and ride or bus services. Very good value. Decor of room and bathroom was lovely. I’d visit again.

I’m a tea and toast person would of like choice of bread

Plenty choice for breakfast I would say the lack of choice re the bread let it down. Sliced white doesn’t make it now days.

Our time at the Black Boy was the perfect overnight stay at a traditional inn. Our room was very warm and comfortable, with a modern en suite bathroom. We also enjoyed drinks and dinner in the bar downstairs in the evening, plus breakfast the following morning - both of which were very good. The neighborhood of the inn is pleasant, and it is also very easy to reach the city of Oxford by bus. Would recommend of a relaxing and enjoyable stay!
