Read more– opens a dialog boxEach review score is between 1 and 10. To get the overall score you see, we add up all the review scores we’ve received and divide that total by the number of them. We use a weighted review system, which means the more recent the review, the bigger the impact on the total review score calculation. Guests can also give separate “subscores” in crucial areas like location, cleanliness, staff, comfort, facilities, value, and free Wifi. Note that guests submit their subscores and overall scores independently, so there’s no direct link between them.
You can review an accommodation that you booked through our platform if you stayed there, or if you got to the property but didn’t actually stay there. To edit a review you’ve already submitted, contact our Customer Service team.
We have people and automated systems that specialize in detecting fake reviews submitted to our platform. If we find any, we delete them and, if necessary, take action against whoever is responsible.
Anyone who spots something suspicious can always report it to our Customer Service team so that our fraud team can investigate.
Ideally, we'd publish every review we get, positive and negative. However, we won’t display any reviews that include or refer to (among other things):
To make sure reviews are relevant, we may only accept reviews that are submitted within 3 months of checking out. We may stop showing reviews once they’re 36 months old, or if the accommodation has a change of ownership.
An accommodation can reply to a review.
When you see multiple reviews, the most recent ones will be at the top, subject to a few other factors (e.g. language, whether it’s just a rating or contains comments as well, etc.). You can sort and/or filter them by time of year, review score, and more.
Sometimes we show external review scores from other well-known travel websites, but make it clear when we do this.
These guidelines and standards aim to keep the content on Booking.com relevant and family-friendly, without limiting expression or strong opinions. They're also applicable regardless of the comment's tone.
Contributions should be travel related. The most helpful contributions are detailed and help others make better decisions. Please don’t include personal, political, ethical, or religious commentary. Promotional content will be removed and issues concerning Booking.com’s services should be routed to our Customer Service or Accommodation Service teams.
Contributions should be appropriate for a global audience. Please avoid using profanity or attempts to approximate profanity with creative spelling, in any language. Comments and media that include hate speech, discriminatory remarks, threats, sexually explicit remarks, violence, or the promotion of illegal activity are not permitted.
All content should be genuine and unique to the guest. Reviews are most valuable when they are original and unbiased. Your contribution should be yours. Booking.com property partners should not post on behalf of guests or offer incentives in exchange for reviews. Attempts to bring down the rating of a competitor by submitting a negative review will not be tolerated.
Respect the privacy of others. Booking.com will make an effort to obscure email addresses, telephone numbers, website addresses, social media accounts, and other similar details.
The opinions expressed in contributions are those of Booking.com customers and properties, and not of Booking.com. Booking.com does not accept responsibility or liability for any reviews or responses. Booking.com is a distributor (without any obligation to verify) and not a publisher of these comments and responses.
By default, reviews are sorted based on the date of the review and on additional criteria to display the most relevant reviews, including but not limited to: your language, reviews with text, and non-anonymous reviews. Additional sorting options might be available (by type of traveler, by score, etc...).

United KingdomThis is a really lovely place in a gorgeous location. The breakfast was one of the best we’ve ever had. Dinner was delicious, far higher level than ‘gastro pub’ Perfect for a winter stay as the open fire in the bar made it very cosy. Lovely and stylish decor.

United KingdomThere’s not much parking available, perhaps they could come to an agreement with the parish council / church and open a space on the green?
Our room was quite spectacular, a suite with lots of space and very well appointed. The other member of our party also had a lovely room. It had the feel of a boutique four star hotel and a comfortable country hotel, and was far nice than I had expected, if I’m honest.

United KingdomThe location was great situated at the quieter end of the high street with the green in front of you. We also visited Melford Hall which was a nice day out and only a 5 minute walk from the black lion. The hotel is decorated nicely and the bar has a cosy snug feel. We were sad that the lounge area no longer existed as that was a lovely quiet space where we first had a hot chocolate on a winters days couple of years back and when we said we would be back to stay! It’s now extended dining space which I’m sure is simply more profitable. Our room was really comfortable and a good size for us to be able to fit our cot in and there be plenty of space still. It’s also really helpful to us when the bar and dining areas are still within range of our monitor to help us relax and enjoy some adult time while lil one is sleeping. Bar staff and staff in general were very friendly and helpful. I do think some improvements could be made around the food. We had dinner on the first night and breakfast on the first morning and a family roast on the Sunday. I was disappointed with breakfast, while relatively tasty service was slow and it seemed to come out luke warm and overall I didn’t think it was good value for money being £15. My mum had croissants and some toast and that was charged at £15 too so I think so different pricing options would be better here! The dinner was tasty enough presented nicely but no real wow factor, my husband’s steak was not great and the roast was a very decent sized portion, though the potatoes seemed like they were left over from earlier and then fried in oil to make crispy, not great. I would definitely stay here again, it has a lovely feel to the place and is definitely a cosy place to visit in the colder months.

All good shame we couldnt always get a drink at the bar as staff only there until 6. Quite a few punters tried to come for a drink but had to be turned away. Surely if staff even one is there why turn people away?? Doesnt make busi ness sense! Staff nice

United KingdomParking is a little tricky in that an area of green common land is utilised which is very handy for the hotel itself but this became churned up and muddy this last weekend with the rain and therefore difficult to access. Not the hotels fault in any way, however shared parking with church attendees at weekends could lead to issues with access over the winter months.

The rooms were beautifully presented and very comfortable . As my husband has had knee operations we requested a room with a walk in shower as many had the shower over the bath. This was changed for us with no problem. Dinner on the night of our stay was also exceptional .
