Our room was next to the elevator and I could hear the lift going up and down.

The view from the hotel was fantastic, staff were all friendly and the breakfast had a wide selection of food . The room was small however that was not an issue as we were not spending much time in it and we didn’t expect too much as it was a non view room. The amenities provided were all good.

The standard double room was a lot smaller than offered in past visits. It was more like a small double which could be used as a single occupancy.

There was a strange high pitched noise appeared after we back from dinner at High Street, but dispersed after midnight-ish.

Elegant old hotel, location is excellent, walking distance to high street and docks area! Staffs are friendly and easy going! The room we stayed is plenty of space, a bit tired but has its own charm!

The only thing I did not like was the inferior quality of the mattresses (I am being moderate here). My mother and I got back aches all the time because of them

There was a damp patch on the wall which had been painted over, and the paint was flaking off, on to the carpet. We mentioned it to reception on leaving but it didn’t impact our enjoyment of our stay.

Great location walking distance from the town, and right on the seafront. Lovely helpful staff. We didn’t like our allocated room, which had sloping ceilings and a tiny bathroom but the staff showed us to a bigger room on the floor below, even though the hotel was fully booked, and we were able to take that room instead. Breakfast service was excellent and a lovely bar lounge overlooking the sea. Room was cleaned every day, to a high standard.

The dining was quite pricey and a bit bland, though the catch of the day was very tasty and well presented. However, the Asian chicken was a small flat chewy chicken breast with some sweet Teryaki sauce on it, a little bit of slaw and a small bowl of fries which seemed expensive for £26. There’s some refurbishment still needed but that seems to be underway.

Lovely grand hotel in a great location and we stayed5 days. Staff were all very friendly and lovely. It’s currently been/being refurbished so the bar/lounge/dining areas were very nice, some painting going on around the place. Drinks and food are available 24/7 if you are a resident so could sit and chill as long as we wanted to. We had afternoon cream tea and later came back for cocktails when you can ask for whatever you like. Breakfast was good selection. Pool was small but so handy though I think the changing rooms could do with a bit of TLC. Our room had a fab sea view, totally worth paying the extra for executive double. Great selection of hot drinks, real coffee with a cafetière, Cornish biscuits and water in the fridge. All the details in the room were good; mirror with makeup lighting; mirror at right height to sit at desk and plugs right on it for hairdryer. Enough drawers and hanging space. Room decor is a bit dated but clean and very comfortable. Parking good and 2 EV chargers available. Very nice walk along the sea to Gyllyngvase beach and near town.

A beautiful Victorian hotel built in the grand style. My previous stay here was 10 years ago - at that time the place was in bad condition and the service was indifferent. The new management have obviously invested a great deal of time and effort into the place. The bar and restaurant area is now beautifully restored and a delightful place to be with unmatched views to seaward through large panoramic windows. Food and service in the bar and restaurant was very good. The room I was allocated on the first floor was in the process of renovation. It was OK. The standard of bathroom renovation is average - The fittings and decor were obviously done on a tight budget but everything worked. The main downside for me was the bed. It was a small double and too short for me (178cm tall) I found the mattress uncomfortable.

Standard rooms very tired and not good value for money for today's standards. We understand that renovations and refurbishment is planned as now under new ownership so we look forward to visiting in the future.

The Hotel is in an amazing location with views of the sea. Staff were exceptional 👌 and service exceptional.

Had a comfortable one night stay. The only issues we found were the food. 1. Evening meal expensive 2. Limited evening menu 3. Steak was not cooked on hot coals as described in menu 4. Cooked breakfast; sausage was poor quality and over cooked. Bacon over cooked. These items must have been left under heat lamps longer than they should of been.

The hotel does need major renovation and updating throughout, which is in progress with new management so will take time. Certain modern comforts are lacking for now but if you can ignore this and appreciate its very charming character, it is worth a stay.

This hotel is an excellent example of a place that is striving for improvement. I was quite worried based on some reviews, but luckily was pleasantly surprised! We loved the amazing views, very friendly staff and beautiful gardens with its close proximity to the strand. Another great selling point is that it is super doggy friendly so you can travel with your furry friends and feel totally comfortable, the welcome gift of a toy and treats was very well received. The breakfast was good and tasty and having the option of the pool and sauna was very refreshing to start or end your day. Overall Excellent stay and excellent value for money!

Amazing location and all staff friendly and helpful. Travel size toiletries in the bathroom was handy. Only down side was scaffolding outside the window but what can you expect when the hotel is having works done. We are frequent visitors and live the hotel 😊
