Read more– opens a dialog boxEach review score is between 1 and 10. To get the overall score you see, we add up all the review scores we’ve received and divide that total by the number of them. We use a weighted review system, which means the more recent the review, the bigger the impact on the total review score calculation. Guests can also give separate “subscores” in crucial areas like location, cleanliness, staff, comfort, facilities, value, and free Wifi. Note that guests submit their subscores and overall scores independently, so there’s no direct link between them.
You can review an accommodation that you booked through our platform if you stayed there, or if you got to the property but didn’t actually stay there. To edit a review you’ve already submitted, contact our Customer Service team.
We have people and automated systems that specialize in detecting fake reviews submitted to our platform. If we find any, we delete them and, if necessary, take action against whoever is responsible.
Anyone who spots something suspicious can always report it to our Customer Service team so that our fraud team can investigate.
Ideally, we'd publish every review we get, positive and negative. However, we won’t display any reviews that include or refer to (among other things):
To make sure reviews are relevant, we may only accept reviews that are submitted within 3 months of checking out. We may stop showing reviews once they’re 36 months old, or if the accommodation has a change of ownership.
An accommodation can reply to a review.
When you see multiple reviews, the most recent ones will be at the top, subject to a few other factors (e.g. language, whether it’s just a rating or contains comments as well, etc.). You can sort and/or filter them by time of year, review score, and more.
Sometimes we show external review scores from other well-known travel websites, but make it clear when we do this.
These guidelines and standards aim to keep the content on Booking.com relevant and family-friendly, without limiting expression or strong opinions. They're also applicable regardless of the comment's tone.
Contributions should be travel related. The most helpful contributions are detailed and help others make better decisions. Please don’t include personal, political, ethical, or religious commentary. Promotional content will be removed and issues concerning Booking.com’s services should be routed to our Customer Service or Accommodation Service teams.
Contributions should be appropriate for a global audience. Please avoid using profanity or attempts to approximate profanity with creative spelling, in any language. Comments and media that include hate speech, discriminatory remarks, threats, sexually explicit remarks, violence, or the promotion of illegal activity are not permitted.
All content should be genuine and unique to the guest. Reviews are most valuable when they are original and unbiased. Your contribution should be yours. Booking.com property partners should not post on behalf of guests or offer incentives in exchange for reviews. Attempts to bring down the rating of a competitor by submitting a negative review will not be tolerated.
Respect the privacy of others. Booking.com will make an effort to obscure email addresses, telephone numbers, website addresses, social media accounts, and other similar details.
The opinions expressed in contributions are those of Booking.com customers and properties, and not of Booking.com. Booking.com does not accept responsibility or liability for any reviews or responses. By default, reviews are sorted based on the date of the review and on additional criteria to display the most relevant reviews, including but not limited to: your language, reviews with text, and non-anonymous reviews. Additional sorting options might be available (by type of traveler, by score, etc...).

United StatesI don't like to put this as a negative, but to be transparent, it is a bit of a walk to kyoto station. Approximately 15-20 minutes. There is a subway station nearby thats about a 6-7 minute walk that will take you to the station as well, but for us by the time you wait for the train and everything you weren't really saving any time. We just made the walk every morning to Kyoto station which was fine for us.
This hotel was in a super charming older neighborhood that was very peaceful and made you almost feel like you lived there. The room was spacious and amazingly decorated. The owner put a lot of thought and intention into the design of the rooms and it shows. The neighbor hood this hotel in was amazing, it was probably our favorite neighborhood we stayed in all of our trip to Japan. The owner is super friendly and his dog is very cute. He was also very attentive and checked in with us on Whatsapp and gave us recommendations. When we needed to forward luggage, he also helped accommodate that. Just be aware, that you will need to have cash to pay for the takyubin service here, we just left it in our room for him to collect.

United Arab EmiratesNothing really to not like about the hotel.
The room was very spacious, heated and traditional. The owner was super nice, and gave us directions, and even dropped us off (since it was on his way). The heated floors and bed were very cool (sic) to sleep in.

From the arrival to the end, everything was great at Hazuki. The guest room was wonderful, clean and quiet. The bath is also really enjoyable after a good walking day. You also have everything you need if you want to drink or eat something. The location is perfect to visit Kyoto. Till you respect the rules, your stay will be unforgetable. At last, a really Big Thank to Takase for his kindness and everything he did to make our stay so incredible.

SwitzerlandBeautiful traditional room with a super comfortable futon – we slept really well! The owner was incredibly kind, took the time to explain everything, and gave us great tips on how to get around Kyoto and what to see. They even recommended a local activity and restaurant nearby. The place is very clean and perfectly located.

Perfect location to visit Kyoto, in an old neighborhood with characteristic charm, yet away from crowds. Staff was very accommodating, making sure everything went smoothly, and that we were comfortable. Great value.

The tatami beds were so comfortable and very easy to fall asleep on, i did not have any problem. I liked that it was very traditional so we got to experience staying in a historic traditional japanese room. My favorite thing about the property was the host. He was very communicative and friendly. He went out of his way to help one of us communicate with the police and embassy about a lost passport which led to us being able to retrieve our lost passport. I would stay here again and recommend anyone staying in kyoto to experience Hazuki Kyoto. He also has a cute sweet dog named Shin who was friendly with guest. (: We really enjoyed our stay.

DenmarkVery few things I didn't like.. It was only things that had nothing to do with the stay or the hotel - like the mosquitos when you went outside for a walk in the evening (that's the hit weather in Japan in September) or when it rained one day when we had to do laundry. Again this has NOTHING to do with the hotel or the stay, just life hahaha
My boyfriend and I stayed for 6 nights. The host/hotel manager is absolutely phenomenal. We loved his presence and were very easy to contact via WhatsApp and ask about or tell anything. There were a washing machine for free use and he was taking very good care of his guest. No noise between neighbors or any other annoying sounds from the streets. Very calming and felt at home after just 3 nights. Sleeping on the futons on the floor was amazing for my back, had to get used to it the first 2 nights else it's been absolutely amazing. 10/10 would recommend everyone to go here and would gladly go again if I come to Japan again!

This hotel is a fantastic place to stay in Kyoto. It is in a traditional Japanese style. Super comfortable and the host was always available via text to answer any questions we had. It is also very well situated, walking distance from the popular Gion district and many other amazing areas of Kyoto. In particular, the communal bath tub that is available by reservation was a highlight, making our stay extra relaxing. The staff also went above and beyond for us - they returned a water bottle we had left behind by posting it to our next hotel in Tokyo free of charge. A truly friendly, comforting and relaxing experience.

CanadaA beautiful stay. We were very comfortable. The sheets were changed everyday and we got fresh towels. The water pressure in our shower was surprisingly good. You must be quiet to respect the other guests, but it contributes to a very peaceful and relaxing vibe. We’d happily recommend this property to anyone.

United StatesIt may be better suited for adults and couples than families as I think the owner is aiming for a meditative stay. There are a lot of rules regarding bringing food in the room and leaving by a certain time every afternoon for cleaning- all reasonable but challenging if traveling with a kid or teen who needs down time.
Perfect location if you want a scenic stay near the river that’s walking distance to sights while avoiding the crowds. Great private soaking tub and spacious rooms. The owner was very gracious when we foolishly locked ourselves out of our room late at night.
