Read more– opens a dialog boxEach review score is between 1 and 10. To get the overall score you see, we add up all the review scores we’ve received and divide that total by the number of them. We use a weighted review system, which means the more recent the review, the bigger the impact on the total review score calculation. Guests can also give separate “subscores” in crucial areas like location, cleanliness, staff, comfort, facilities, value, and free Wifi. Note that guests submit their subscores and overall scores independently, so there’s no direct link between them.
You can review an accommodation that you booked through our platform if you stayed there, or if you got to the property but didn’t actually stay there. To edit a review you’ve already submitted, contact our Customer Service team.
We have people and automated systems that specialize in detecting fake reviews submitted to our platform. If we find any, we delete them and, if necessary, take action against whoever is responsible.
Anyone who spots something suspicious can always report it to our Customer Service team so that our fraud team can investigate.
Ideally, we'd publish every review we get, positive and negative. However, we won’t display any reviews that include or refer to (among other things):
To make sure reviews are relevant, we may only accept reviews that are submitted within 3 months of checking out. We may stop showing reviews once they’re 36 months old, or if the accommodation has a change of ownership.
An accommodation can reply to a review.
When you see multiple reviews, the most recent ones will be at the top, subject to a few other factors (e.g. language, whether it’s just a rating or contains comments as well, etc.). You can sort and/or filter them by time of year, review score, and more.
Sometimes we show external review scores from other well-known travel websites, but make it clear when we do this.
These guidelines and standards aim to keep the content on Booking.com relevant and family-friendly, without limiting expression or strong opinions. They're also applicable regardless of the comment's tone.
Contributions should be travel related. The most helpful contributions are detailed and help others make better decisions. Please don’t include personal, political, ethical, or religious commentary. Promotional content will be removed and issues concerning Booking.com’s services should be routed to our Customer Service or Accommodation Service teams.
Contributions should be appropriate for a global audience. Please avoid using profanity or attempts to approximate profanity with creative spelling, in any language. Comments and media that include hate speech, discriminatory remarks, threats, sexually explicit remarks, violence, or the promotion of illegal activity are not permitted.
All content should be genuine and unique to the guest. Reviews are most valuable when they are original and unbiased. Your contribution should be yours. Booking.com property partners should not post on behalf of guests or offer incentives in exchange for reviews. Attempts to bring down the rating of a competitor by submitting a negative review will not be tolerated.
Respect the privacy of others. Booking.com will make an effort to obscure email addresses, telephone numbers, website addresses, social media accounts, and other similar details.

By default, reviews are sorted based on the date of the review and on additional criteria to display the most relevant reviews, including but not limited to: your language, reviews with text, and non-anonymous reviews. Additional sorting options might be available (by type of traveler, by score, etc...).

AustraliaBeing a traditional Ryokan, the tatami mats directly on the floor may not be to everyone's liking (there's not much in the way of cushioning), however that did not stop us from immersing fully into the traditional ways of japan!
Being in the foothills of Kyoto, this Ryokan offered tranquillity like nowhere else. The service was absolutely exceptional, the breakfast was huge and immaculately presented. The onsen was so hot and soothing. It was just the perfect peaceful getaway that we needed after the hustle and bustle of Tokyo and Osaka.

United StatesThe location is pretty far out from most popular destinations in Kyoto. Though this was known prior to booking, I was not aware how far out it actually was. A saving grace is the presence of a bus stop not too far from the hotel. Though outside of the hotels control, another minor thing to be aware of was the cellular service this far out was very spotty.
The hotel was very clean. I loved the traditional aesthetic with the paper doors and tatami mat rooms. The layout of the hotel is also quite interesting with the hallway areas resembling that of an art museum. There were also nice looking garden spaces between the buildings.

AustraliaLocation far from the station - you will need to taxi. About 4800yen taxi cost.
A stunning ryokan experience. Authentic and lovely from start to finish. Make sure to embrace the Japanese ryokan culture and wear your yukata for dinner too!

SingaporeRoom was very big, futons were thick and comfortable. The communal bath had an amazing view in the morning. The food was also excellent both breakfast and dinner worth the money. The staff were also very helpful and friendly and some were able to speak english.

United StatesThe onsen is only available until 9am and then closes until 4pm. The hotel should provide bottled water or have a source to fill up water bottles.
Breakfast was tailored to my restrictive diet. The chef's were very thoughtful and careful with the requests and I am very grateful. Lovely miso soup, salad, fish, protein, and pickled vegetables. The staff was beyond helpful. Deeply kind. They helped with everything I could need including directions, tea ceremony, e-bike, meal requests...The room was spacious and the tatami mat was very comfortable.

United KingdomHonestly it was fabulous. We loved the authenticity of the room, the food and the sleeping arrangements. We left a little earlier than planned as it is traditional sleeping and my back couldn’t take it. Our room was a little different to others we saw and we’re guessing it’s because there wasn’t much space left. This didn’t deter our experience or the wonderful memories made.

United KingdomThis place is beautiful. The facilities were clean and the perfect mix of tradition and comfort. The rooms are spacious and full of natural light, and they have very nice views of the surroundings. I did not use the public bath but some of my friends did and they loved it. The traditional breakfast was delicious and very filling, and a nice experience to try something new. They have a free shuttle service in the morning that leaves you very close to Kinkakuji. We used this after checking out and it was very convenient. That said, because it's towards the mountain, the location is a bit difficult to reach with public transport. I'd recommend taking a taxi if you're carrying luggage.

GreeceThe building was not a little house that i had in mind it was a big hotel ryokan style a little bit old, but still luxurious. The only bad thing was that it was so far away from the kyoto central. You had to take a bus and then change to another bus or metro. If you want to go to this ryokan, do it like us stay some days at the center and then go to this ryokan.
Very nice place overall. The staff was excellent. Very big rooms. Highly recommend if you want to feel a true Japanese experience. We booked with dinner and breakfast. The food was very tasty and so much! They brought us like 20 little different little plates we were really stuffed. But we ate it all. From our windows we could see the beautiful garden and hear the water flowing that it was so relaxing. The room had a bathtub that had hot water to relax in your room if you didn't want to go to public baths. The public bathes were very relaxing with view of the mountain.

AustraliaSecond time staying here, the first was 2018, and both times the staff went above and beyond to ensure our stay was an exquisite one. Huge bathhouse for relaxing and delicious food in the restaurant. It is a little far away from the rest of Kyoto but there is a bus stop not even a 5 minute walk away which will take you into the city.

DenmarkThe level of service is a bit basic for japanese standards, though it is still good for either European or American ones.
It is a good option for a family wanting to experience an onsen spa hotel. It is in the outskirts of Kyoto, and the view from the bath to massive pine groves is glorious. The flipside is, there are no restaurants or shops around. There were two (or three, we never found out) baths, but only the bigger one was open. It was well maintained and had great views, though they had not fired up the heating at the corridor leading to it so it got chilly with the yukata provided. There was a mix-up and it turned out we had not ordered dinner, but the personnel offered us options to order in, so we had good sushi, no complaints there. The room itself was lovely, though the view from the window was the ugly backside of some building nearby. The breakfast, traditional with soup, fish and rice, was good quality. Overall good value for money and recommended.

BelgiumThe set dinner menu was very good but a lot of food, all served at once. It’s not a criticism, rather an observation.
The traditional feel of everything and the Onsen. The location is peaceful and quiet with several beautiful shrines within 5 mins walk (we visited 4!).
