Each review score is between 1-10. To get the overall score that you see, we add up all the review scores we’ve received and divide that total by the number of review scores we’ve received. We use a weighted review system which means that the more recent the review, the bigger the impact on the total review score calculation. In addition, guests can give separate ‘subscores’ in crucial areas, such as location, cleanliness, staff, comfort, facilities, value for money and free Wi-Fi. Note that guests submit their subscores and their overall scores independently, so there’s no direct link between them.
You can review an Accommodation that you booked through our Platform if you stayed there or if you arrived at the property but didn’t actually stay there. To edit a review you’ve already submitted, please contact our Customer Service team.
We have people and automated systems that specialise in detecting fake reviews submitted to our Platform. If we find any, we delete them and, if necessary, take action against whoever is responsible.
Anyone else who spots something suspicious can always report it to our Customer Service team, so our Fraud team can investigate.
Ideally, we would publish every review we receive, whether positive or negative. However, we won’t display any review that includes or refers to (among other things):
To make sure reviews are relevant, we may only accept reviews that are submitted within 3 months of checking out, and we may stop showing reviews once they’re 36 months old – or if the Accommodation has a change of ownership.
An Accommodation may choose to reply to a review.
When you see multiple reviews, the most recent ones will be at the top, subject to a few other factors (what language a review is in, whether it’s just a rating or contains comments as well, etc.). If you like, you can sort and/or filter them (by time of year, review score, etc.).
We sometimes show external review scores from other well-known travel websites. We make it clear when we’ve done this.
These guidelines and standards aim to keep the content on Booking.com relevant and family-friendly without limiting expression of strong opinions. They are also applicable regardless of the sentiment of the comment.
Contributions should be travel related. The most helpful contributions are detailed and help others make better decisions. Please don’t include personal, political, ethical, or religious commentary. Promotional content will be removed and issues concerning Booking.com’s services should be routed to our Customer Service or Accommodation Service teams.
Contributions should be appropriate for a global audience. Please avoid using profanity or attempts to approximate profanity with creative spelling, in any language. Comments and media that include 'hate speech', discriminatory remarks, threats, sexually explicit remarks, violence, and the promotion of illegal activity are not permitted.
All content should be genuine and unique to the guest. Reviews are most valuable when they are original and unbiased. Your contribution should be yours. Booking.com property partners should not post on behalf of guests or offer incentives in exchange for reviews. Attempts to bring down the rating of a competitor by submitting a negative review will not be tolerated.
Respect the privacy of others. Booking.com will make an effort to obscure email addresses, telephone numbers, website addresses, social media accounts, and similar details.
The opinions expressed in contributions are those of Booking.com customers and properties and not of Booking.com. Booking.com does not accept responsibility or liability for any reviews or responses. Booking.com is a distributor (without any obligation to verify) and not a publisher of these comments and responses.
By default, reviews are sorted based on the date of the review and on additional criteria to display the most relevant reviews, including but not limited to: your language, reviews with text, and non-anonymous reviews. Additional sorting options may be available (by type of traveller, by score, etc.).

United StatesNothing at the top of my mind.
My friends and I road-tripped through a lot of Japan, and we had almost a week of Onsens. The Onsen here was the best. The dinning experience was also so fantastic. This was our favorite dinning experience we had. Not to say the food was the best we'd eaten, it was good, but the experience was what made it. Our hostess treated us very well and at times I almost felt bad to be served by an older lady, but I think that was perhaps cultural difference.

BrazilThis place looks like heaven, the food was delicious, the view from our room was perfect. And I can’t even describe how good the onsen felt. Our mistake was to only stay one day, definitely have to come back another time.

NetherlandsBeautifully located in the middle of nature, hiking very easy from here. The rooms are spacious, traditional Japanese and very quiet. The onsen facility is huge! So many different baths to try, and a part where male and female is mixed (clothes provided at the entrance).

Czech RepublicThere wasn't anything negative. We enjoyed our stay a lot.
The hotel is in a nice valley, all rooms have a balcony, the Japanese style rooms are nice and comfortable. All the staff were very nice and helpful. We had half board, dinner and breakfast were excellent. The waitress at the dinner didn't speak English, but she was very nice and tried to explain everything with the help of a translator. The biggest advantage of the hotel is the onsen, an amazing experience, outdoor and indoor part.

SingaporeI wished the hotel staff informed us on the use of the yukata (Japanese clothes)when we arrived.
The facilities were very good and clean. Their onsen pools are excellent. We used them at night and early in the morning and have different wonderful experiences. The surroundings are very scenic. Waterfalls and snow-covered roof tops. The meals are very good and the waitresses are very attentive to our requests.

IrelandThe hotel installations in general are old, specially the room, but they work ok
Very nice hotel , with the best Onsen I visited during my trip in Japan. Great experience for traditional japanesse breakfast and dinner, both were very tasty. We stayed 2 night, and they gave us different menus each day. And the onsen is amazing, many different hot bathtabs options with hot water with minerals. And there is even a an outdoor onsen where both men and women can be together (both covering with a tower in this area)

The baths are exceptional, there is also a large mixed bath. The staff is very professional, helpful and kind, the ladies at the meal services so nice and fun. English is spoken at the front desk and by staff of different countries. Everyone does their best so we have a great stay. One employee even took us to the morning market by car. The food was excellent, we ate in private rooms. The very convenient bus stop to TAKAYAMA. The area around the hotel is very beautiful The hotel is clean , comfortable, everything works well like wifi etc… We would definitely come back if in the area.

SingaporeNothing at all.
1. Definitely value for money. Although the price isn't cheap, the nice onsen, immensely elaborate dinner and breakfast, and the wonderful room more than made up for the price. 2. It was in a beautiful location overlooking a river with hills nearby. 3. The bus from Takayama stops directly in front of the hotel. 4. I could visit the onsen as many times as I liked, and it was very enjoyable. They had both indoor and outdoor onsens. 5. The dinner was a literal feast, and the breakfast was a mini feast. The food exceeded all my expectations. 6. The room was very large by Japanese standards. 7. The view from the balcony was breathtakingly beautiful. 8. The futon bed was comfortable.

IsraelPersonally, I found it uncomfortable to sleep on the floor on a thin mattress that wasn’t quite comfortable enough.
The hotel is located in an amazing spot, right in the middle of the wild nature. The onsen is exceptional, with many different types of pools, including a shared pool for men and women that is situated outside in the nature.

IsraelWow. If you're looking for the quintessential Japanese ryokan experience, look no further. This place was amazing, the beautiful Japanese tatami room, helpful and friendly staff, delicious food and excellent onsen baths, that allow for mixed gender bathing wearing a special towel. Located in a rather secluded valley next to a river is great plus.

United KingdomPlastic mats in the onsen were degrading, which was a little gross, but on the whole, the hotsprings were great. The smell of the tatami mats was strong, indicating that they are quite old. I don't mind the smell personally, but it might bother some people.
The hotel is a little run down, but the area is absolutely stunning. The onsen is extensive and extremely relaxing. The staff were friendly and accommodating.
