Each review score is between 1-10. To get the overall score that you see, we add up all the review scores we’ve received and divide that total by the number of review scores we’ve received. We use a weighted review system which means that the more recent the review, the bigger the impact on the total review score calculation. In addition, guests can give separate ‘subscores’ in crucial areas, such as location, cleanliness, staff, comfort, facilities, value for money and free Wi-Fi. Note that guests submit their subscores and their overall scores independently, so there’s no direct link between them.
You can review an Accommodation that you booked through our Platform if you stayed there or if you arrived at the property but didn’t actually stay there. To edit a review you’ve already submitted, please contact our Customer Service team.
We have people and automated systems that specialise in detecting fake reviews submitted to our Platform. If we find any, we delete them and, if necessary, take action against whoever is responsible.
Anyone else who spots something suspicious can always report it to our Customer Service team, so our Fraud team can investigate.
Ideally, we would publish every review we receive, whether positive or negative. However, we won’t display any review that includes or refers to (among other things):
To make sure reviews are relevant, we may only accept reviews that are submitted within 3 months of checking out, and we may stop showing reviews once they’re 36 months old – or if the Accommodation has a change of ownership.
An Accommodation may choose to reply to a review.
When you see multiple reviews, the most recent ones will be at the top, subject to a few other factors (what language a review is in, whether it’s just a rating or contains comments as well, etc.). If you like, you can sort and/or filter them (by time of year, review score, etc.).
We sometimes show external review scores from other well-known travel websites. We make it clear when we’ve done this.
These guidelines and standards aim to keep the content on Booking.com relevant and family-friendly without limiting expression of strong opinions. They are also applicable regardless of the sentiment of the comment.
Contributions should be travel related. The most helpful contributions are detailed and help others make better decisions. Please don’t include personal, political, ethical, or religious commentary. Promotional content will be removed and issues concerning Booking.com’s services should be routed to our Customer Service or Accommodation Service teams.
Contributions should be appropriate for a global audience. Please avoid using profanity or attempts to approximate profanity with creative spelling, in any language. Comments and media that include 'hate speech', discriminatory remarks, threats, sexually explicit remarks, violence, and the promotion of illegal activity are not permitted.
All content should be genuine and unique to the guest. Reviews are most valuable when they are original and unbiased. Your contribution should be yours. Booking.com property partners should not post on behalf of guests or offer incentives in exchange for reviews. Attempts to bring down the rating of a competitor by submitting a negative review will not be tolerated.
Respect the privacy of others. Booking.com will make an effort to obscure email addresses, telephone numbers, website addresses, social media accounts, and similar details.
The opinions expressed in contributions are those of Booking.com customers and properties and not of Booking.com. Booking.com does not accept responsibility or liability for any reviews or responses. Booking.com is a distributor (without any obligation to verify) and not a publisher of these comments and responses.
By default, reviews are sorted based on the date of the review and on additional criteria to display the most relevant reviews, including but not limited to: your language, reviews with text, and non-anonymous reviews. Additional sorting options may be available (by type of traveller, by score, etc.).

United KingdomIt was a bit far out unless you have a car. The weather was terrible and we needed somewhere to dry our clothes.
Rooms were clean, comfortable and a good size. The outside areas are well-maintained. The pool is great. Breakfast nice. The staff kindly provided a kettle when we arrived.

United StatesExterior lights were missing to get down the uneven stone steps to our room. It was far from the beach. Hard to figure out how to operate the gate, but once you find the gate opener location, it was fine. Definitely need a car to use this place, down a dirt road.
The pool was fabulous- I went swimming even though it was unheated. Breakfast was great and included. Beautiful gardens, very lush landscaping!

PortugalThe beds could be more comfortable. Could not pay by card due to a "problem with the system", so we had to pay by bank transfer. Not very convenient, and by looking at other reviews it's not the first time this happens.
The hotel is very beautiful. It's in the middle of nowhere, in a very quiet and relaxing place, but still very close to Luz and Lagos by car. The pool is awesome and the restaurant has a great view. There is private parking inside. Our room (with the pool view) is very large and has a small kitchen which was very handy.

United KingdomBeing kept waiting at the gate for 15 minutes to check in when it was very hot because the receptionist was on her lunch break so there was no one to let me in. This was at 14.10 when I arrived. At breakfast the mugs were Mis matched.
Loved locality and room size. The lady at breakfast was very cheerful. The pool and surroundings were lovely

NetherlandsHonestly, there’s really nothing negative we can say about our stay. Litteraly everything was just so well taken care of. The only thing we missed out on was a dip in the pool, but that was simply due to our timing and the rainy weather, not anything the hosts could control. It rained during our visit almost during the entirety of our vacation, and the water was a bit too chilly to enjoy. But as we told Catia at the reception; we'll definitely be back, and next time, we’re jumping straight into that pool!
We had the most amazing time at Montinho de Ouro! We were super happy we stayed here for our last nights and it was truly a relaxing highlight of our trip to Portugal. After traveling around in a campervan for two weeks, we decided to wrap up our holiday with three nights here, and it was the best decision we could've made. From the moment we arrived at the gate, we were blown away. The peaceful atmosphere, the abundance of fruit trees, surrounded by birds everywhere and blooming flowers in the garden. Everything felt like a dream. A few days before we were in Lisbon for just one day. We left right away because we do not really like the busteling busy city life. I think that is also why we appreciated this place so much too. It was quiet, no people around, no business around, just one with nature and we loved it. What made it even more special was the warmest welcome we've ever received. The host was incredibly kind and made us feel right at home from the very start. All staff members were super friendly in a genuine interested way. Our room was lovely, beautifully decorated, with a huge comfy bed (such a treat after sleeping in a van!), a handy fridge, and a stunning bathroom that gave us major inspiration for our own house back in Aruba! Every detail of our stay felt thoughtful and relaxing. We left feeling refreshed, grateful, and definitely planning to return one day.

United KingdomI was worried about staying here after reading a few of the reviews, but we shouldn’t have been worried at all, this place is a little piece of heaven, tucked away from all the hustle & bustle. Yes, you need a vehicle (a hired ped, or car) but once you’re there the staff are welcoming, the pool area is superb and the room (poolside no.4) is perfect. A short trip into Praia de Luz for an evening meal and you could want for no more. Breakfast was simple but enjoyable and relaxing.

SwitzerlandThe room was very cold (ceramic floor wich is probably nice in summer) and had no window except a glass door located just in front of the bed and looking the pool (so better close the curtain for privacy). The bathroom/toilet has glass wall and this time no curtain for privacy. The lighting of the room was bad (no lamp at side bed, just one white bulb at the ceiling)
Because we visit in January the pool wasn't open and the hotel was nearly empty. However, the staff organize an extremely nice breakfast for us. Very nice garden. The place should definitively be nice in season
