Each review score is between 1-10. To get the overall score that you see, we add up all the review scores we’ve received and divide that total by the number of review scores we’ve received. We use a weighted review system which means that the more recent the review, the bigger the impact on the total review score calculation. In addition, guests can give separate ‘subscores’ in crucial areas, such as location, cleanliness, staff, comfort, facilities, value for money and free Wi-Fi. Note that guests submit their subscores and their overall scores independently, so there’s no direct link between them.
You can review an Accommodation that you booked through our Platform if you stayed there or if you arrived at the property but didn’t actually stay there. To edit a review you’ve already submitted, please contact our Customer Service team.
We have people and automated systems that specialise in detecting fake reviews submitted to our Platform. If we find any, we delete them and, if necessary, take action against whoever is responsible.
Anyone else who spots something suspicious can always report it to our Customer Service team, so our Fraud team can investigate.
Ideally, we would publish every review we receive, whether positive or negative. However, we won’t display any review that includes or refers to (among other things):
To make sure reviews are relevant, we may only accept reviews that are submitted within 3 months of checking out, and we may stop showing reviews once they’re 36 months old – or if the Accommodation has a change of ownership.
An Accommodation may choose to reply to a review.
When you see multiple reviews, the most recent ones will be at the top, subject to a few other factors (what language a review is in, whether it’s just a rating or contains comments as well, etc.). If you like, you can sort and/or filter them (by time of year, review score, etc.).
We sometimes show external review scores from other well-known travel websites. We make it clear when we’ve done this.
These guidelines and standards aim to keep the content on Booking.com relevant and family-friendly without limiting expression of strong opinions. They are also applicable regardless of the sentiment of the comment.
Contributions should be travel related. The most helpful contributions are detailed and help others make better decisions. Please don’t include personal, political, ethical, or religious commentary. Promotional content will be removed and issues concerning Booking.com’s services should be routed to our Customer Service or Accommodation Service teams.
Contributions should be appropriate for a global audience. Please avoid using profanity or attempts to approximate profanity with creative spelling, in any language. Comments and media that include 'hate speech', discriminatory remarks, threats, sexually explicit remarks, violence, and the promotion of illegal activity are not permitted.
All content should be genuine and unique to the guest. Reviews are most valuable when they are original and unbiased. Your contribution should be yours. Booking.com property partners should not post on behalf of guests or offer incentives in exchange for reviews. Attempts to bring down the rating of a competitor by submitting a negative review will not be tolerated.
Respect the privacy of others. Booking.com will make an effort to obscure email addresses, telephone numbers, website addresses, social media accounts, and similar details.
The opinions expressed in contributions are those of Booking.com customers and properties and not of Booking.com. Booking.com does not accept responsibility or liability for any reviews or responses. Booking.com is a distributor (without any obligation to verify) and not a publisher of these comments and responses.
By default, reviews are sorted based on the date of the review and on additional criteria to display the most relevant reviews, including but not limited to: your language, reviews with text, and non-anonymous reviews. Additional sorting options may be available (by type of traveller, by score, etc.).

PortugalWe had a Family suite (two connecting deluxe rooms), the paint job in the bathrooms is not up to the standard of a 5 star hotel. Also the fact that there is no ventilation system in the bathroom (except opening the window) shows its wear and tear on the interior of the bathrooms. This is the main reason for not giving a 10 rating. Beware: The A Terra restaurant adds a recommended tip of 15% which is uncommon in Portugal, or Europe for that matter. You can alter the tip to a desired amount but the 15% is precalculated and if you sign without looking properly it is easy to miss.
All staff are genuinely friendly and welcoming. We dined at the A Terra restaurant both evenings, good varied menu also for vegans. Water, fruit and cookies served in the room daily along with some small things for the kids. The kids club is great and the staff there are superb. The dog fee is 50€/night which is a big hefty but it includes a dog bed, bowls, dog towel, poop bags and a chewing bone. There is plenty of green areas to walk our four legged friends.

SwitzerlandThe room, a superior double, was a little underwhelming, probably due to the constraints of the original building, eg no balcony and a shower in a bath.
The hotel is very beautiful and welcoming with stunning grounds in a good location. Breakfast was amazing and restaurants good. The staff are top notch with a laid-back, very friendly attitude. It was all very relaxing and would certainly like to return.

United KingdomWe could not fault anything.
One of the most special places we have stayed; the location, resort/retreat, staff, facilities, and food were above expectation. Octant really cared about us and not only met our special requests but exceeded our requirements having thought and care into each day we stayed - they surprised us with beautiful fruit plates, chacuterie plates, wines, water. The staff were super attentive but discreet and we felt really cared for. We will definitely be back.

United KingdomThe bathrooms are tired and in need of modernisation. For a 5 star hotel charging the kind of rates they charge, the bathrooms should be better quality and better maintained. The temperature of the shower went from hot to cold fairly consistently. I did report this to reception, but it was not resolved during our 4 night stay. The shower head attachment was coming away from the wall. And the mirror was showing signs that moisture had got into it, as it was beginning to rust around the edges. This was the only real disappointing element of the stay. I also felt that, although the food offered in the two restaurants was nice, it wasn't top quality enough to justify the very high prices. Having stayed at other 5 star hotels around the same price bracket, I'm not sure Octant quite met the same overall standard of quality, with the exception of the staff, who were some of the best I've ever experienced.
Staff were first class, and are a credit to the business. More than anything else, it was they who made the stay at the hotel a special one. They were always friendly and willing to help, and they made us feel very welcome from the start. The rooms are nice, although for the price, I feel they could do with some updating. The facilities are good, and the hotel offers some excellent add-on experiences, which we took advantage of. The pottery class and private wine tasting experiences were especially enjoyable.

The property was beautiful and well maintained. The selection at breakfast was good quality with eggs cooked to order and some variation each day. The resort catered well to both families and couples with separate pools and areas - the family pool was a perfect temperature. The staff were wonderful and so kind to our 11 month old. The baby bath, toys and toiletries in addition to the cot were very appreciated.

United KingdomOne thing I would add is maybe extend the hours of the pool bar for dinner options.
Came here alone to take some time off for myself, and whoa this place certainly exceeded my expectations: Before arrival: The staff were very easily reachable in terms of arranging things in advance, such as booking transport from the airport to booking experiences and answered any questions necessary in a timely manner. Check-in: The staff was very friendly and welcoming. They also provided me with any information necessary, such as the map of the resort, the weekly experiences (which there were plenty) and took care of my luggage and other things and took them to my room while I had lunch. The Resort: There is a lovely lake on the grounds and plenty of seating/lounging amenities such as hammocks, sunbeds and chairs and tables. One thing I especially enjoyed was that the resort is big enough to have some privacy but also sized enough where going from A to B is not a hike. It is certain that the grounds will be missed and dreamed about until one can return to the lovely gardens of Vila Monte. The Room: I stayed in the standard room, which had more than enough space and lighting. The bed was extremely comfy and I especially loved the evening service where cookies are provided, makes your bed and leaves a sleeping kit on your nightstand. The room also came with straw hats, beach bags and a beach towel, which made the service even more exceptional. The Food: Best food I had in awhile, especially the Calamari tacos at Laranjal and the eggplant in À Terra. Breakfast also very nice. Wellness: The spa casita is something everyone with time during their visit should experience. Experiences: The beach is definitely worthy of a visit, the handloom workshop was exceptional and the weekly experiences that were the port wine tasting was very informative and fun, thanks to the sommelier. The staff: I would honestly just come back to this place for the staff, they were the best I have met.

Germany-
Our stay was simply perfect. It started with the friendly communication even before we arrived. On arrival, the first great impression continued. We were greeted immediately with a smile and by our name, politely and at the same time sincerely. The hotel grounds are well-kept and very spacious. The room was just a dream, which continued at breakfast - we looked forward to the large, high-quality selection every morning as soon as we woke up. The team at dinner not only met but exceeded every expectation. Thank you very much for this wonderful vacation. We will definitely be back!

United KingdomLocated in a peaceful rural area and set in spacious and well kept grounds, Octant Villa Monte is a calm and comfortable retreat. Within an easy drive of Olhão and Faro and a range of excellent beaches it is a great alternative to the usual beach hotels. The hotel restaurant, A Terra, is rightly a destination of it’s own with a menu worth exploring.
