Each review score is between 1-10. To get the overall score that you see, we add up all the review scores we’ve received and divide that total by the number of review scores we’ve received. We use a weighted review system which means that the more recent the review, the bigger the impact on the total review score calculation. In addition, guests can give separate ‘subscores’ in crucial areas, such as location, cleanliness, staff, comfort, facilities, value for money and free Wi-Fi. Note that guests submit their subscores and their overall scores independently, so there’s no direct link between them.
You can review an Accommodation that you booked through our Platform if you stayed there or if you arrived at the property but didn’t actually stay there. To edit a review you’ve already submitted, please contact our Customer Service team.
We have people and automated systems that specialise in detecting fake reviews submitted to our Platform. If we find any, we delete them and, if necessary, take action against whoever is responsible.
Anyone else who spots something suspicious can always report it to our Customer Service team, so our Fraud team can investigate.
Ideally, we would publish every review we receive, whether positive or negative. However, we won’t display any review that includes or refers to (among other things):
To make sure reviews are relevant, we may only accept reviews that are submitted within 3 months of checking out, and we may stop showing reviews once they’re 36 months old – or if the Accommodation has a change of ownership.
An Accommodation may choose to reply to a review.
When you see multiple reviews, the most recent ones will be at the top, subject to a few other factors (what language a review is in, whether it’s just a rating or contains comments as well, etc.). If you like, you can sort and/or filter them (by time of year, review score, etc.).
We sometimes show external review scores from other well-known travel websites. We make it clear when we’ve done this.
These guidelines and standards aim to keep the content on Booking.com relevant and family-friendly without limiting expression of strong opinions. They are also applicable regardless of the sentiment of the comment.
Contributions should be travel related. The most helpful contributions are detailed and help others make better decisions. Please don’t include personal, political, ethical, or religious commentary. Promotional content will be removed and issues concerning Booking.com’s services should be routed to our Customer Service or Accommodation Service teams.
Contributions should be appropriate for a global audience. Please avoid using profanity or attempts to approximate profanity with creative spelling, in any language. Comments and media that include 'hate speech', discriminatory remarks, threats, sexually explicit remarks, violence, and the promotion of illegal activity are not permitted.
All content should be genuine and unique to the guest. Reviews are most valuable when they are original and unbiased. Your contribution should be yours. Booking.com property partners should not post on behalf of guests or offer incentives in exchange for reviews. Attempts to bring down the rating of a competitor by submitting a negative review will not be tolerated.
Respect the privacy of others. Booking.com will make an effort to obscure email addresses, telephone numbers, website addresses, social media accounts, and similar details.
The opinions expressed in contributions are those of Booking.com customers and properties and not of Booking.com. Booking.com does not accept responsibility or liability for any reviews or responses. Booking.com is a distributor (without any obligation to verify) and not a publisher of these comments and responses.
By default, reviews are sorted based on the date of the review and on additional criteria to display the most relevant reviews, including but not limited to: your language, reviews with text, and non-anonymous reviews. Additional sorting options may be available (by type of traveller, by score, etc.).

FranceA very nice hotel, with a beautiful view, friendly staff, right in the middle of a vineyard. We also had dinner there twice, very tasty. A great place to stay to explore the area and enjoy Madeira. Warning though: even if there are parking spots, they are challenging to use (quite steep).

United KingdomPool wasn’t heated so we didn’t use it which was a shame
We were warmly welcomed to this hotel by friendly and accommodating staff, and were told our room had been upgraded. Our room was beautiful (#5), nestled in the vineyards looking out onto the sea with a feature wall inside looking into lit up cave - the most unique room we’ve ever stayed in! The breakfast was the best hotel breakfast we had ever experienced. 95% of the vegetables are grown on site and every dish was delicious. We also had a 3 course dinner at the hotel one evening which was really special. Would recommend this hotel for anyone wanting to experience pure relaxation in a peaceful and scenic setting.

United StatesHotel was great; Madeira however was one of the most hectic places I have been with incredibly challenging driving. Sure, there are some special places but it sure as heck aint worth putting up with the very, very steep hills, made that much more challenging by having a stick shift.
Daily breakfast wonderful and so was the beautifully accommodating chef and staff. Hotel immaculate. A respite...

The view, the rooms, the restaurant, the staff - it's all just exceptional. I will be happy to come back for a longer stay and will definitely recommend it to my friends. The dinner in the restaurant is just a piece of art. The breakfast is very tasty and chic. Everything was simply gorgeous.

United KingdomBeautifully set in terraced gardens with views over the ocean, the hotel is like a tiny village with little hidden spots around the property. The architecture is a nice mix and the decor very well curated.

United KingdomMinor points only: the bed was soft, not ideal for back pain. Bathroom was poorly ventilated and it made our room smell musty. Lots of steps if that’s an issue for you, within the property and to the beach. The hotel pool is very small (BUT the Calheta beach is great).
A beautiful stop in Madeira if you want to treat yourself to a boutique, luxury experience - the views from the place and your own room are simply incomparable, the property is beautiful, staff is attentive, breakfast was great. The restaurant was good: traditional dishes made with good technique and local, high quality ingredients, with a tasting menu changing daily. Didn’t feel particularly inventive if new, bold flavours are what you’re after, but it’s worth eating there one night.

United KingdomNot enough parking, we had to leave the car elsewhere one night. But for most of the stay there was enough room.
Incredible food. Such a cool location. Exceptional view of the sea. Rooms were quaint, but very well supplied. The second room we stayed in, Gruta, was one of the most incredible rooms i've ever seen, built around a cave. Worth the stay alone. Staff incredibly friendly and helpful. You absolutely have to stay for dinner, if not you're wasting one of the best meals you could have on the island.

Gorgeous concept. Completely farm to table. The villas engrained in the garden, and vineyards that are used by the property. Unbelievable views of the ocean. Excellent restaurant, service, and overall ambiance.

Switzerland- The staff was not very welcoming - The room was very small - We expected a better view of the ocean - No slippers provided - There was no sauna, which is something you expect from a 4-star hotel - The breakfast variety was limited, there was no buffet or menu. You just receive a fixed selection and can choose what type of eggs you want. Unfortunately, we were not impressed by the facilities and service at Socalco.
We spent one night at Socalco, as we wanted to visit the Razao restaurant. We appreciated the quality of the food at both dinner and breakfast.
