Each review score is between 1 and 10. To get the overall score you see, we add up all the review scores we’ve received and divide that total by the number of them. We use a weighted review system, which means the more recent the review, the bigger the impact on the total review score calculation. Guests can also give separate “subscores” in crucial areas like location, cleanliness, staff, comfort, facilities, value, and free Wifi. Note that guests submit their subscores and overall scores independently, so there’s no direct link between them.
You can review an accommodation that you booked through our platform if you stayed there, or if you got to the property but didn’t actually stay there. To edit a review you’ve already submitted, contact our Customer Service team.
We have people and automated systems that specialize in detecting fake reviews submitted to our platform. If we find any, we delete them and, if necessary, take action against whoever is responsible.
Anyone who spots something suspicious can always report it to our Customer Service team so that our fraud team can investigate.
Ideally, we'd publish every review we get, positive and negative. However, we won’t display any reviews that include or refer to (among other things):
- Politically sensitive comments
- Promotional content
- Illegal activities
- Personal or sensitive info (e.g. emails, phone numbers, credit card info)
- Swear words, sexual references, hate speech, discriminatory remarks, threats, or references to violence
- Spam and fake content
- Animal cruelty
- Impersonation (i.e. if the writer is claiming to be someone else)
- Any violation of our review guidelines.
To make sure reviews are relevant, we may only accept reviews that are submitted within 3 months of checking out. We may stop showing reviews once they’re 36 months old, or if the accommodation has a change of ownership.
An accommodation can reply to a review.
When you see multiple reviews, the most recent ones will be at the top, subject to a few other factors (e.g. language, whether it’s just a rating or contains comments as well, etc.). You can sort and/or filter them by time of year, review score, and more.
Sometimes we show external review scores from other well-known travel websites, but make it clear when we do this.
Guidelines and Standards for Reviews
These guidelines and standards aim to keep the content on Booking.com relevant and family-friendly, without limiting expression or strong opinions. They're also applicable regardless of the comment's tone.
Contributions should be travel related. The most helpful contributions are detailed and help others make better decisions. Please don’t include personal, political, ethical, or religious commentary. Still have some construction going on
Hotel was good. New pool. Renovated room. Receptionist Lis was great, speaks good english and helpful.

Location is perfect, you just need to walk a few meters to get to the beach, restaurants bars. Basically everything you need is super close. Staff is friendly and communicative. They are always there to help. We've been here two times and we'll be back this month.

No bed side lights, only 1 plug-in, in our 2 bedroom. No mini-fridge in rooms or common kitchen. No shelves or hooks in showers, which is inconvenient, although they do provide shampoo and body soap in dispensers on the wall. El Tunco quiet time is 1:30am, and it gets busy and loud on weekends! Hotel has a similiar quiet policy of 1am and allows guests to use pool until then as well. Very unusual. Imho, that's a bad policy. Keep the party in town and the Hotel quiet for guests. 11pm quiet and 10pm pool times are pretty typical.
The Hotel is clean and well maintained by the hard working, attentive staff. The beds are comfortable and the AC works. Wifi was weak in our room, sometimes as low as 6, and you have to reconnect. But strong in the yard @ 100-600+mbp. Great location in a small, vibrant surf town. I'd recommend Hotel Zelen. It's a solid, value option.

The windows were very thin and did not lock but it was so safe I really wasn't worried but someone could just open the window very easily. We also had a major ant problem which they did take care of the next day but it was a full blown infestation. They need to really put out some traps and spray around the buildings.
The location was top tier. Very close walk to the beach and all the lively areas and good food. The staff was very friendly and there were a lot of fun people staying at the location which ended up with us making quite a few new friends.

Location is great! The room I booked was spacious and clean. The bed was comfortable and the AC was great! Before I arrived, the staff reached out via WhatsApp to give me detailed directions which was great. My room had a nice balcony with hammock and ocean view from most windows.

The pool water was hot and the shower water was cold.
Close proximity to the boardwalk, pubs, restaurants, surf board shop and assorted village shopping. The bed and pillows were comfortable. The wifi was decent and A/C worked well. The concierge was amicable and helpful. Zelen accommodated a late night check-in due to a late flight arrival. El Tunco was safe and secure with an adequate police presence.

The parking lot can be a bit complicated but having an area to park cars was great enough.
I loved the location! It was in a great area and for the price, it was amazing!

The bathrooms are communal and some people don't mind going to it with the door open knowing other people might step in. I would rather have my own bathroom.
Good ambiance, the name does fit. Comfortable bed and very close to the rest of El Tunco.

Definitely overpriced! Also, I forgot a perfume in the room, and when I later asked for it, they told me they hadn't found anything in my room. I'm certain I left it there, but I know how things are in my country, El Salvador, so I chose not to continue asking for it.
