Each review score is between 1 and 10. To get the overall score you see, we add up all the review scores we’ve received and divide that total by the number of them. We use a weighted review system, which means the more recent the review, the bigger the impact on the total review score calculation. Guests can also give separate “subscores” in crucial areas like location, cleanliness, staff, comfort, facilities, value, and free Wifi. Note that guests submit their subscores and overall scores independently, so there’s no direct link between them.
You can review an accommodation that you booked through our platform if you stayed there, or if you got to the property but didn’t actually stay there. To edit a review you’ve already submitted, contact our Customer Service team.
We have people and automated systems that specialize in detecting fake reviews submitted to our platform. If we find any, we delete them and, if necessary, take action against whoever is responsible.
Anyone who spots something suspicious can always report it to our Customer Service team so that our fraud team can investigate.
Ideally, we'd publish every review we get, positive and negative. However, we won’t display any reviews that include or refer to (among other things):
- Politically sensitive comments
- Promotional content
- Illegal activities
- Personal or sensitive info (e.g. emails, phone numbers, credit card info)
- Swear words, sexual references, hate speech, discriminatory remarks, threats, or references to violence
- Spam and fake content
- Animal cruelty
- Impersonation (i.e. if the writer is claiming to be someone else)
- Any violation of our review guidelines.
To make sure reviews are relevant, we may only accept reviews that are submitted within 3 months of checking out. We may stop showing reviews once they’re 36 months old, or if the accommodation has a change of ownership.
An accommodation can reply to a review.
When you see multiple reviews, the most recent ones will be at the top, subject to a few other factors (e.g. language, whether it’s just a rating or contains comments as well, etc.). You can sort and/or filter them by time of year, review score, and more.
Sometimes we show external review scores from other well-known travel websites, but make it clear when we do this.

They are closing the Backpackers and I got really sad about this news! They are going to keep the guesthouse though. We all know SA has some insects and we found some in our rooms. We informed the reception and well it can happen anywhere with summer heat!
First time I was at Ashanti was in 2007 and now I came back with my parents and family (including my todler.) We stayed at the Guesthouses which are not in the main building (where we had to go to have breakfast and get general info). For elder people that was not the easiest move but still, they managed it and loved the breakfast! Rooms were good and the staff was amazing, as always!

All good
Very clean, I mean to details even hidden areas. Quality cooking equipment and amenities never depleted and good quality. A quiet and safe place. The staff is very friendly always willing to assist where possible (I could even ask for a convenient checkout time as I was there for Sanlam Capetown Marathon and I was assisted). Thanks for your flexibility where it allows.

The overwhelming smell of paint during maintenance.

For a quick overnight, this was excellent. Beds where very comfortable, room was very clean and the bathroom and shower is so lovely and spacious! Will definitely stay here again.

More Ventilation at the guest house at the kitchen Area when someone is cooking. This should be administered. Otherwise all was well. Nothing to complain.
I like the reception of the Staff especially in the morning when you come in for breakfast and when you go out to start the day, well done!

Our booking through booking.com indicated that our reservation included breakfast. on the morning we went through to the backpackers and were told that it was not included and had to pay extra for the breakfast. This was frustrating and a misleading statement either by the owner or booking.com - I specifically booked accommodation with breakfast included as we had an employee traveling with us.

A bit more info regarding the breakfast would be great, only the last day did I find out they actually serve a breakfast buffé if you arrive in time.. Because I eat late, I showed up 30 minutes before breakfast time was over (by this time they cleared away the buffé) and couldn´t figure out why the breakfast staff seemed not so happy ..
Great rooms, great location. Access to pool is nice. Comfy beds and clean rooms. Nice with an outdoor area and shared kitchen so you can cook your own food if you want.

Breakfast could include fruits and vegetables. Although the staff is nice some of them didn't know much and couldn't answer questions or be helpful.
i loved the location, its close to many interesting places. The house is ok and my room was fine, it was serviced, cleaned and had kettle and tea etc, the breakfast was good. the equipped kitchen is a plus though i haven;t used it.
