Everything was perfect, and that's no exaggeration! Matsumoto Jujo is not just a hotel; it has cafes, a bakery, a boutique, and more. And this is because they created the place to help rejuvenate the local region/town, Asama Onsen. Just this background story is already so moving and impressive. I stayed at the "Matsumoto Honbako" and there, they have originally an old communal bath which turned into an instagram-worthy library. I heard it's more than 10,000 books! The design of the place is too awesome! It's like brutalist structure but Scandinavian interior with Japanese elements here and there. I cannot really say much but I know for sure it's great design! Their dining place, "367" serves the freshest ingredients, especially the veggies!! Dinner is filling but it will not make you feel bloated or too full. Breakfast is the same and I liked that you get a lot of fresh bread - straight from their own bakery. Actually, you can buy most of the ingredients they use in their dishes at their boutique. I got myself some bottles of their original apple Juice. There were so many things to like: onsen bath at the veranda of my own room, free tumbler which you can refill with their original coffee, private reading nooks within bookshelves, free snacks in each floor, super comfy beds, amazing staff, Edo-style communal bath outside the hotel... the list goes on. I cannot wait to go back again!!

This Onsen Ryokan was a blissful relief after a few days in Tokyo. The room was enormous with an entry hallway, huge sleeping/living room and separate huge bathroom. The room had a big window and view, a kettle, fridge, tv, Pjs and all amenities, and the most comfortable futon bedding and doona. I got the all inclusive package and the dinner and breakfast was amazing and a highlight of my whole trip to Japan. There were multiple courses all presented in the most incredible way. The female onsen had 3 different baths including an outside one. I had it all to myself which was a luxury. There is also a little deck and Japanese garden where you can soak your tired feet in the hot mineral onsen water. It was easy to get to from the train station. I took the bus from the bus station opposite and paid cash to the bus driver as I exited the bus. When I left I took the bus to the Castle, left my luggage in the lockers, did a free guided tour of the castle and then walked a short way back to the station. Matsumoto is a lovely city to visit and I'm so glad I stayed at this Ryokan.

We loved the remoteness of this hotel…we had already been to Kyoto,Kanazawa, and Takayama. This was our last destination before heading home, and we wanted to just relax, take leisurely walks and soak in the sulfur hot springs. Also, be treated to kaiseki dining, which were elaborate and tasty. We loved the kotatsu (heated table with a blanket draped to keep your legs and lower body warm. And the kotatsu was located in the bay window facing a snow covered woods: so serene. We specifically want to commend Otsuka-san and Ogama-as for serving us breakfasts and dinners with a high degree of professionalism and kindness. Also, deep appreciation to Tajima-san at the reception desk for providing a typewritten page of directions for my husband and me, in reaching our next destination. It was complicated, requiring 6 different transfers. But his step by step directions plus a map of the train station showing us how to get to the next train, were so helpful. On our last day, the ryokan provided a private van for three couples (us included) because the local bus couldn’t pass the road due to a landslide. That’s service!

Great little place to stay for a night (or longer). We had a Family Bungalow for 4 of us, but can take 6. There is a large room downstairs with kitchen, dining table, sofa, TV etc. Shower and toilet are also downstairs. Upstairs is a large tatami mat area with up to 6 futons. Warm, clean and comfortable.

Onsen Yado Misuzuso is good value to stay in the mountains near Kamikochi. We stayed in a beautiful tatami room with yukatas provided to wear to the baths. The baths at this onsen smell really strongly of sulfur, be warned. There’s a lovely tiny restaurant Iodori located right next door so we could just walk over for dinner. The staff were really kind.

The accommodation displayed a very comfy and traditional atmosphere. The rooms were great and a yukata was provided to wear on the house and on the way to the Onsen. Even though communication was a bit difficult in English, the staff took a lot of effort to explain to me what I needed to know.

It‘s a really authentic Onsen-experience. We were the only non-Japanese at this place. Our room was a traditional room with tatami-mattresses. In the family room 3 slept on futons, 2 in beds. It‘s half-board. In the evening we had a 10 course menu in a private room. Although we had an English menu we were overwhelmed the first time with how to eat what and what needs to be cooked and what not
