As the financial capital of Switzerland and headquarters of several large companies including FIFA, there’s a good chance that if you’re in Zurich you’re here on business. But that doesn’t mean this city doesn’t have a playful side.
Known for its cleanliness and fresh air, it comes as no surprise that the luxurious ski resorts of the Alps are within an easy distance of both the city and Zurich Airport, which is only a 12 minute drive from the city centre.
The centre is also a fast-growing cultural hub, packed with art galleries and museums. The Swiss history museum is called Landesmuseum and the Kunsthaus houses some of the most important pieces of art owned by Switzerland. For an interesting combination of art and culture, check out the Fraumünster, a gothic church with window paintings attributed to Marc Chagall.
During the day, the Lindenhof hill offers a stunning vista of the heart of the old town, Niederdorf, which is filled with shopping avenues, winding alleyways and restaurants. At night the many club doors open offering a range of live music and DJs.

Zürich is beautiful! The food is wonderful. We found the people super friendly. Its a no-stress destination for travellers, everything is exactly as promised. Its also easy to get around - great tram and train service. You don't expect Switzerland to be cheap, and it wasn't, but most of the activities are either free or modestly priced. There is a very reasonable short boat tour you can do on the lake, and the funicular to the top of the hill is scenic and reasonably practice. Best place to stay: in the Niederdorf area.

Although we only window shopped it was fascinating strolling along The Bahnhofstrasse. Also highly recommend taking a trip to the Rhine Falls. The hotel was very well positioned in the old town, an easy walk to the station and other facilities. Just around the corner from the lovely river and a street full of restaurants. The Sechseläutenn Festival was on whilst we were there which gave the city a happy celebratory vibe even though it was raining.

From the big train station it is very easy to take a day trip to the capital, Bern. It is an hour road and the old town there is really nice. Also try the day trip to Loucerne. There is a travel agency called "Best of Switzerland", the parking lot is really close to the hotel, i would highly recommend the excursion to the Titlis mountain, Alps. I will never forget that in my life. Zurich is very nice, the walk by the river to the start of the lake is great.

Zurich is in some ways the best of big city and the best of...
Zurich is in some ways the best of big city and the best of a small town. If your life revolves around outdoor activities such as hiking, wake boarding, sailing, bicycling, rock climbing, mountain climbing, etc. then it is by far one of the best cities to live in. It's incredibly close to all of these things. It's also centrally located in Europe, so you can easily visit France, Austria, Germany, or Italy with only a few hours train ride. You will travel a lot. The city itself is beautiful. It is cleaner and safer than any other big city in the world. A corollary to the cleanliness is that you will spend far more of your life figuring out how to get rid of your trash than anywhere else you will ever live. (I personally was never able to fold my paper-recycling neatly enough to get it picked up. I am not joking.) The Swiss are incredibly organized. Even the Germans make fun of how organized and un-spontaneous they are. When the government or a bank tells you to expect something within two weeks, it will probably show up in your mailbox within three business days. You will respond to mail faster than you ever have in your life. The core of the city is only about 400,000 people. It's small. You may find yourself going nuts if you come from a big city, or if you like a bit of mayhem in your life. While there are many different activities to do, they may only happen once a week.

Its great asset is its location in the attractive Niederdorf 'old town' area of Zurich, which is full of bohemian and academic life and many restaurants. Yet our room looking out on to the municipal library was extremely quiet.
