Newport is a great city, steeped in history with the John Frost chartist riots taking place there, plus Roman remains and baths/museum etc. It is wonderfully located to cover most of the Southern half of Great Britain.

We came up for an event and stayed two nights at the Greene King New Inn. This was close to the motorway, reasonably priced and has excellent customer service. Whilst staying we went to the Retail Park at Spytty; which has everything you could possibly want. We went to Cineworld, Caffe Nero, and the Harvester whilst there. Cineworld was an absolute treat, it was our first time going to this brand cinema and we will most definitely be back - they had veggie dogs! Plus comfy chairs. The staff in Caffe Nero were kind and helpful as I walk with a stick they took my drinks to the table for me. The Harvester is always a safe bet for food as you know what you are getting with the brand; but once again exemplary customer service when we visited. The reason I say it was too short, is that I used to live just outside the city centre and it brought back so many happy memories. It is somewhere I would always recommend as it has something for everyone.

A very comfortable stay with clean good sized rooms.

A very comfortable stay with clean good sized rooms. Friendly & most obliging staff. Excellent breakfast with plenty of choice. First class location for the city centre venues. Reasonable parking charges in the Friary Walk car park just a few minutes walk away. All our party would recommend The Mercure in Newport.

Great location for my family gathering.

Great location for my family gathering. Really enjoyed the mini golf. Food good in the restaurants but service variable- we ate at Rafters for a birthday meal. There were 14 of us and we had pre- ordered but the service was slow. The hotel rooms were comfortable and we had a view across the Severn.

The hotel isn't in Newport itself, therefore my review isn't for Newport. it's for a lovely little ancient village called Caerleon, with lots of Roman history including a museum and the remains of an Amphitheatre. We didn't go into Newport, but used the hotel as a base to travel up into the hills and valleys of Wales, which were absolutely beautiful. The Hotel is right on the doorstep of some stunningly beautiful scenery. It's a lovely drive to The Brecon Beacons from the hotel!

The hotel was booked due to running the Newport marathon. On arrival we were upgraded to a king suite. A travel cot was provided for our 9 month old baby. The reception team were very welcoming and accommodating at all times. Every member of staff were friendly and couldn’t do enough for us. The hotel was very busy but nothing was too much trouble. The facilities were excellent and used the spa which was more than expected in terms of what was on offer. We would thoroughly recommend a stay here with a family.

Location was right in the heart of Newport, with everything in the centre within walking distance. Room was clean and spacious, with an amazing view of the town (we were not Riverside). The staff we interacted with in person were amazing, and couldn't be more helpful. We had a couple of issues, noted in the "What didn't you like?" section, but we explained these to the desk during checking out (after three nights) and were pleasently suprised by the way the hotel staff dealt with the complaint.

The Waterloo Hotel is a beautiful building, rooms are really clean and we had a very comfy bed. We had a room at the front of the building with a huge bathroom. This is a family run hotel and the owners and team are so welcoming, nothing is too much trouble for them. We booked full English breakfast which was excellent. We will definitely back, it would be good to try out the restaurant when they open up. A good location for Newport (20.min stroll) and Cardiff. Would highly recommend.

Very clean and a lovely sized room. Bathroom was excellent, bath and shower superb. The hotel itself is very nice, attached to the main hotel. Pretty surroundings and well organised. Didn't eat there, but a few choices available and a tad pricey, looked good. It was a last minute treat for myself so splashed out a bit rather than my usual level of accommodation.. (cheap and cheerful!) The manor house is grand. Cleaning staff very friendly and helpful.

The room was very similar to premier Inn. The furnishings are similar. Why this hotel is rated so low I have no idea.
