The hotel is well located but is beginning to show its age . One of the lifts was not working so long waits at times to between floors . Friendly welcome . Breakfast area very clean and tidy with good selection.

The location worked for us since we needed to be in South Ockendon. It was just around the corner from the people we were there to see. The house was clean and tidy, had just enough space, and served us well for the five nights there. The hosts were both lovely and very accommodating—they clearly wanted everything to be perfect, and this was demonstrated by their excellent customer service. Nothing was too much of a bother, and they responded swiftly whenever we needed anything. I really couldn't fault them for attentiveness and friendliness. There were sufficient consumables in the property. Although there was no dropped curb, we could still park the car in the paved front garden, which was very handy. We had a limited budget, and this property was one of the cheaper ones available, so the price was right.
An attractive old coaching inn. Room was very spacious and clean. Bed linen was of high quality and bed was very comfortable. Amenities were of high quality. Location was excellent although only realistically accessible by car. Food & wine in the restaurant was was very high quality and creatively presented. Served by friendly staff.

This is a very pretty village which we explored on foot.
This is a very pretty village which we explored on foot. The houses had beautiful gardens and hanging baskets and all houses and garden were really well kept. It was so peaceful there, no traffic as such and a really great place to relax.

I grew up in Horndon, more importantly spent most of my childhood in The Bell. The changes that JV and Christine have made are truly for the better and puts Horndon on the map of places to go for the perfect dining and stay over experience.
Accommodation excellent. Friendly efficient staff.
Had a bar meal in The Bell and could not fault anything.
Value for money. Breakfast - plentiful and good choices.
We have stayed for a weekend before and we will be back again.
